Happy 4th everyone https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=13915906a young man sets his sails for that horizon oceans of mystery no loss behind him he’ll face every day that romantic way and practice not to deceive and just breathe a capable man pays his dues and asks not for favor abandoned dreams of yesterday for fruits of his labor counting the days he can finally be free and rest without any needs and just breathe safety or complacency choose your reality sacrifice your flesh for the cause freedom or fantasy redefine sanity somewhere we must have gotten lost look up but i can’t see what keeps compelling me why can’t i just breathe an old man stands on a lonely shore, his whole life behind him the silent stars and smell of the sea serve to remind him he’ll stand and wait for eternities’ gaze to rid him of restless sleep and just breathe

It was a "Happy Fourth" indeed... and this one is the perfect "cork in the bottle" for me. Admired the write, production and vocal, Tony. Keep 'em headed this way... JPF is working well this morning. Thanks for sharing.

Whoa! What a great Bowie-like vocal sound!
This does sound like late-Seventies experimental Bowie and David Sylvain's band "Japan" as well. Art Rock, angular chord progressions and especially that bass style and sound which is very much like (Japan's) Mick Karn.
Interesting lyric, partly looking out-into-the-world and painting pictures and part inner monologue.
Love it!
Mike

I like the dark, melancholy sound of this recording and your lyrics. Yes, your voice reminds me of Bowie also.

Much appreciated y'all, thanks. I still wish I could meet a singer to help me take the music in different directions though

Tony,
I like that you have such humility in regards your voice.
But I have heard a few things by you now. You are like a vocal chameleon, you can change your voice up to sound like different people.
And so when you say, " still wish I could meet a singer to help me take the music in different directions though"
My immediate thought is....
Use the force, Luke !!!
Mike

LOL.... Some people are just natural born singers and can move and emote with their voices. Others, like myself, can just carry a tune about 80% of the time... I know from experience that my strengths are rhythm guitar and backup Vox

I just upgraded from GarageBand to Logic X and I’m still learning my way around it. I decided to re-mix this one to kinda' get the hang of things.... I think the difference is night and day lol https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=13915906

Well, you are certainly a fast learner. I am still working on mixing and drum patterns. Wish my mixes sounded this good. But, I don't think Pro Tools is very beginner friendly!

Lol... I know that’s right! I tried messing around with ProTools and QBass about 10 years ago. I remember being completely overwhelmed because I wasn’t very computer savvy to begin with. However, 2yrs ago I bought an Apple out of sheer frustration with Windows 10 lol, and the Apple came with a free copy of GarageBand. What I’ve learned recently is that GarageBand, even though you really can do a lot with it, it’s really just a starter program for Logic. That helped me a lot, but I'm still learning

Japov,
Bowie jamming with The Doors--what a cool combo--that you are! Loved everything about this'n. The drum track some would say is too bold and out front, but I liked that with this vibe--it didn't step on your vox at all.

A song for the times. Just breathe.. I tell myself this all the time. This is really good. I can't begin to comment because it's out of my pay grade, as they say. Loved everything about it. Bass is killer.

Since this one has actually got a little attention lol, and I'm still in the process learning how to record with a computer, I’ve decided to clean it up a bit. Any suggestions or advice from you "sound pros" out there is certainly welcome. Thanks again everyone Here’s Breathe2 https://www.soundclick.com/html5/v4/player.cfm?songID=13915906

We are bound to the choices and the voices in our head, fueled by the passions in our soul. We can choose to not take a path in life, but the journey we missed will haunt us forever. Loved it Japov.

Very cool idea to use "breathe" in different stages of life like this. I never listened to Bowie much so I didn’t make that association but, like Eddie, thought this had a Doors vibe. Though I don't remember them having a cool bass part like that anywhere. Nice arrangement and mix too - not too busy and everything sitting in it's own space. Like listening at center stage Scott

Very Bowie … from the Lets Dance era. I hear a Nile Rogers influence too. Totally enjoyed the vibe. Agree with Mike. Stop looking for that singer - you are he! Good stuff.

I remember this. I love the angular chords and coolness of everything about this.
Your singing feels dry-mouth and removed yet thoughtful. Not unlike a Kenny Rogers approach but with the vocal cords more of a Bowie. Sol works well with this. Two singers holding back emotionally for the chorus to then let it out.
The piano is especially interesting for me. It's like your pointillistically painting with it. Leaving so much space around it's occasionally stabbed chords.
In fact "space" is what I notice about this most: it's like you're playing with it. Leaving plenty of it in the verses, then throttle down more in the chorus.
I occasionally arrive at something as abstractly beautiful as this by making myself make uncomfortable choices--trying to do things I don't normally try. So much of your music seems like that--and the icing is that it's void of cliche. Creative and fresh.
Like this a bunch!
