I would like to simply start a discussion here if that’s OK... It’s kinda' how my strange brain works. I have a topic in mind for a song but before I start writing I’d like some different perspectives on the subject. If you absolutely have to put a couple of lines together then please go ahead, but what I'm truly after here is just open and honest discussion about a particular subject for my own inspiration. Even if you find the subject distasteful or disagreeable please speak up, I am not easily offended and you may be surprised by what inspires me lol. Also, feel free to ask me anything you like. So, here we go....
I was married for 21 years and am now divorced...... What I have recently learned is that having the courage to leave a life of trouble behind is only half the battle. You still find yourself alone and learning how to live again without the trouble... Thoughts?

No matter how bad things get with a marriage or love, you are going to find it hard to be without it.

I like to use analogies.

Being married is like growing a third arm. if it works well, and is cooperative, you can get more done, do things you couldn't do with only your own arms, and can scratch itches your arms can't reach.

but if things go bad, it gets in the way, spills things, throws things against the wall, and sometimes flips you off right in front of your face and then proceeds to use that middle finger to poke you in the eye.

but getting rid of it is not like an appendectomy or a tooth extraction where your fine in a couple of days. no the third arm is physically ripped from you without anesthetic. and it is painfull. and aches for a long time. there is a hole where it used to be. and you have to relearn how to do some things you got used to doing with 3 arms.

My sympathies that it didn't work out, and good luck on this new chapter of your life.

.

IIt's times like these you learn to love again. Foo Fighters

Hi JAPOV, I am so sorry to hear about your divorce!!

Just a few ideas for your song!!

Title: FAULT LINE

It's about honesty, faithfulness, kindness, and etc..
When someone crosses the "LINE" it can be heartbreaking..
The damages can be like some Heart Quake..

Hope this might inspire some song ideas!!

Best,
Fran Williams

Moosesong!!!! LOLOL...... "flips you off and pokes you in the eye!!!" That's truly a fantastic analogy, thanks for that... I needed a laugh smile

Hi Fran! "Fault Line"... another good one, that’ll be easy to work in!

Thank you both very much! This is helping me get out of my own head smile

Hi JAPOV, thank you for the mention!! It was just a basic idea smile

Verse)
I know it was all My/Your, "FAULT"
Know I/ You are to blame
When I/You crossed the "Line"
Playing the cheatin' game....

Just some more thoughts smile
It's all yours JAPOV...phrases about a broken heart,
expresses like an earthquake!!!

Just some ideas!! smile
We all have our "Faults" and we all cross the "Line" sometimes!!!
Sometimes we are pushed across, sometimes we fall across!!
It makes your world shake, rattle and roll, under your feet!! smile

Best to ya,
Fran Williams

It’s hard to squeeze such a complicated emotion into such a small package..... The point I want to get across is how I never felt more disconnected and alone than when I was married. You hear all the time that many would gladly die for love..... what you don’t hear about is those who would die just to separate themselves from the animosity and treachery....

Hey, Tony, a lot of your lyrics seem to look at things from a distance, as if you're flying over them with a drone. That makes sense because they tackle big philosophical / religious issues. This is different. It's not "the" heart, it's your heart. Land your drone in the middle of this mess and bring us with you, if you feel like you can.

in only mutual disregard
my heart still gambles
yearning to live and love again
in the sundered shambles....

Just a thought.

the old habits remain
though my heart is done breaking
I still hear that voice
screaming it hates me
the damage is done
the battlefield is empty
crossed over the fault line
love became the enemy

It avoids mixing metaphors between war and geology and, I think, is a vivid and apt metaphor. (Of course I do, since I thought of it LOL.)

I actually debated "carnage" because.... well, I've seen that. But, do you really feel that the "fault line" play on words isn’t obvious enough in this context Gav?

It's obvious enough, Tony, it just doesn't work as well because a fault line is not something you would encounter on a battlefield. No man's land keeps that battlefield metaphor alive, as does carnage. Instead of a collection of "stand-alone" images, you have one that you flesh out over the whole verse. Just my thoughts, not necessarily the best way to go.

Hi JAPOV, I just wanted to make a few extra comments about this song
Idea! When a marriage breaks up, family members "Line Up" and take sides smile
It can cause a great deal of damage! Mothers/Fathers, kids and etc..It can
cause long term pain..Your world seems to break apart and it take time to
recover! Yes, I am speaking from my own past experiences! There are a
lot of nice loving women and in time you could find someone as special
as You are..Yeah smile

Best to ya,
Fran Williams

"By all means, marry. If you get a good wife, you'll become happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher." Aristotle.

"If someone leaves you, let them go. They're doing you a favor." Anonymous.

"I've discovered that it's easier to see another man's ass than it is to see one's own." Philosophical observation in a book I never bought.

I recently ended some three relationships with people who I realized are not my friends. I wrote a Lyric about them but it opens with obscenities unfit for sharing with other human beings, which ruins the rest of the Song for sharing.

Fran's a genius: "Fault Line". Remember 'no-fault' insurance? Earthquake 'fault' lines. Your fault. My fault. Nobody's fault. The girl's a genius I tell ya!

But you may be only looking for a way to vent your frustrations. I remember a girl who screamed in her car, driving down the highway, and said it relieved stress. A friend, arguing with his wife, said he let her rant. Then went for a drive, knowing someone would inevitably do something that enabled him to vent on them. A violent man, I hope he was able to do his venting without involving them to that degree. He just passed away so his hell may be just beginning.

A more academic approach is writing. People recommend writing a letter to your younger self. Or writing to your ex- , ex-wife, ex-boss, ex-best-friend-forever who ran off with your wife. These aren't letters you mail. Just write them as a way of crystalizing your thinking. Beware. Anything you say can and will be used in a court of law. You have the right to remain silent, and suffer. Some say to burn the letters after you write them, as a finalizing act. Or simply writing in a journal, without addressing yourself to anyone. Just expressing thoughts, feelings, and ever with an eye towards moving on to a more positive state of mind. Life is good. There's not much of it left, no matter how young you think you are. So every moment deserves investment of your consciousness, an awareness, mindfulness, that this is the 'now', and 'now' is all there is. The past is gone. You can change how you think about it, but not the facts of it. The future may never get here. Now is all there is. So what are you doing 'now'? If you don't like what you're doing, do something different. Grow something. Get a dog if you're willing to commit to sharing your life with one of these sentient creatures who understands you more than you will ever understand them. Don't get one unless you're willing to take it for long free wanders through wild woods on as frequent a schedule as possible. Chaining one up in the back yard is not a kindness for it or you. Explore the world. It's a quite interesting place. Nature is full of interesting things we once were fascinated with as children, and then forgot to enjoy as our lives became cluttered with other things. Stop and smell the...well...whatever's out there. Become the person you think you'd like to be. Who is he? What does he do? Where does he go? How does he interact with other people? Does he lift them up, wherever he goes? They all need lifting up. Almost none of them needs bringing down. Even those who need bringing down are demonstrating that they need to be lifted up. Lead. Don't follow. Unless you like where they're leading you. And even then, beware. Many will mislead you for reasons of their own, if you're foolish enough to follow. Explore. The world is full of endless possibilities. Find a place of flowing water. Spend, or invest, some of that precious time, the stuff of which life is made, there, beside the waters. Find a place where the water becomes still. Listen to the wind in the trees. Be. Let it be. Climb, deliberately, out of the oppressive thoughts that loop back and re-oppress you if you aren't deliberately constructing the person you want to be. Or...well...what else can you do? You're pretty much in control. There are limitations. But mostly they're things you impose on yourself. Or I do anyway. Find. Look for and find better places, better ways to spend your time. Vent. Write the letters. Burn them and move on. If it doesn't work, I'll give you your money back.

There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com

I once would have died
for a feeling to remain
Then I died inside
just to avoid the pain

Common Sense That
Is Worth A Million.

(Some outlooks that look inward)

Life is a burden far too often
bending us in grief
like a backpack unseen
full of the remnants of the brick house
that was once our ex-girlfriend
or the strong but severed limbs
of a cherished gentleman
.
It can be a recalcitrant
child's endless rebellion
or a decree that slashed sacred vows
into two separate divisions
unfairly shared,
as well as a terminal disease
not yet diagnosed

Pounds pain us, pain pounds us
and so much more assails us
with no need to name each
individual load of ballast
that we lug around

We all bear such scars.
Scars are the cliff notes
of our wretchedness
both physically and mentaly.

Life can be a pendulum of sorrow
swinging from our souls
in endless ways to tick us off
and it can control the beating of our hearts,
turning squared shoulders round
and dragging us down.

Eyes leak and ears fall deaf to the
endless voices in our heads that scream
for us to cling to hope and carry on.
Quasimotorless we have little strength
to pursue elusive dreams..

But the simple things of life.
with its many lighter sides can ease
the weight of the wait until
we find modicums of relief
.
A shared smile of
a tiny child we cherish,
a sunny day that reminds us
of other even sunnier days
from the halcyon of our youth.
The slipping grip of two sets of lips
finding purchase and igniting
long lost passion or a new love.
A sudden change in our paths of fate
towards brighter horizons.
plus so much more
too vast to even attempt
to mention here
.
I had a friend who killed himself
over a girl who left him,
quietly slipping away to oblivion
in the wee hours of the night.
His dear Mother unaware of his passing
went out the next morning
to get the newspaper
and found a note to him
taped to the door.
She took it up to his room
and found him dead in his bed
from an overdose of pills.
It turned out that the note
was from his girlfriend
begging his forgiveness
for doubting his love and asking
to get back together with him.

But at that point it would have
required her suicide as well.
A life ending and life changing
event all in a single
twenty four hour period
that would have ended
his sentence of death
with an exclamation
of love renewed.

One must shuck off the
tedious burdens of life
or be crippled by their weight.
or one must grow stronger
simply by bearing the load
until time relieves the
past and brings a present
of a better future
.
When my Mother was
declared brain dead
all the way out in California
I had to fly there from my home
in Ohio to sign the order
to turn off her life support.
No one else in my family was
strong enough to sign it.
and so I signed that awful
sheet of acceptance,
my mind screaming at God...
"W H Y !! ??

But then as I stood at her side
as she passed in that.
moment she was no longer
a viable, life sustaining vessel,
I felt a comfort I have never known
wash over me like a warm mist
and I felt the absence of her presence
with far less pain, for she had been freed
of the burdens she had born for sixty years.

As I was leaving her I.C.U. Room
where no flowers or wreaths or any
decorations or gifts were allowed
I spied beneath her bed a long,
white feather lying just inside the railing
next to where she lay.

But how had it gotten there?

The Doctor and nurse in attendance
were both baffled and I was in awe.
for I knew then that she had been
carried to a better place
.
Life is a heavy burden
made even more unbearable
as each year passes,
but a soul only
weights a few ounces,
as light as a feather
left behind in a rush to
a burden less place.

There are many lessons we learn
and changes we make
from the burdens we have born.

Without worry we would all be
far more reckless.

Without some loneliness
we would take love
far too much for granted.

Without pain we would grow numb
to the benefits of sorrow free life.

Rich men who can have anything at all
rather quickly grow bored
with most anything at all.

The world is such a beautiful place
but we have to struggle
with the world's ugliness as well
much like candy’s shrink wrap to get at
what is sweeter inside and savor it.

Remember what’s good about
all you have sampled here on earth
and dwell on the smorgasbord
you have devoured and you will be
less hungry in the lean times.

Just common sense
worth a million.

In only mutual disregard
My heart still gambles
Yearning to live and love again
In the sundered shambles

The old habits remain
Though my heart is done breaking
I still hear that voice
Screaming it hates me
The damage is done
The battlefield is empty
Can’t find the fault line
Love became the enemy

I once would have died
For a feeling to remain
Then I died inside
When I felt no pain
Never more alone
Than living with hate
Now yesterday’s gone
But it’s too late

No bridge left to burn
In no man's land.....

In only mutual disregard
My heart still gambles
Yearning to live and love again
In the sundered shambles....
