The Journey's Only Half The Battle.

Come out and rise up from
your down under land,
tearing your doubts and failures
asunder and stand
like the star that you are,
with your well worn guitar
baptized in the applause
of many thundering hands.

Each song starts
with one note
plus blunders unplanned,
each chord finds progessions
till they meet your demands
then each vocal and lyric
starts to flow and expand,
in your journey to find
music's sweet wonderland.

Millions traveled its path
over decades of time,
many fell by the wayside
as they failed to find,
the key that fit perfectly
to all listeners ears,
you are part of a legacy
you must play
through your fears.

Even Elvis had flops
David Bowie faced losses
with his first albums hung
round his neck.... albatrosses,
but their hunger persisted
chasing hits but more cautious,
till their names brought them fame
and their music was flawless.

There are ten million artists
all trying to achieve
the top of a long list
though many find grief,
but the joy of making music
brings each one some relief
and the ones that will make it
bleed for what they believe.

Every song starts with one note
make each one noteworthy,
till your fingers are calloused
and your eyesight grows blurry
never settling for less
never trying to hurry
till you have a song list
that makes your fans all scurry
to hear your next tune
but you've got to stay thirsty.

Don't rest on your laurels
they become crowns of thorns,
each souls muse is a demon
and they cannot be scorned,
there are bands who have vanished
and their fans do not mourn
those concerts where they offered
the same old songs, tired and worn.

I speak from experience
I'm one of ten million
who is still not a star
I'm just a musical civilian,
but I write music daily
and I'm ready and willing,
though that wonderland
escapes me
my life's still fulfilling,
out there hustling the crowds
playing bars and pavilions.

And maybe someday
if fate blesses my dreams
I'll see you backstage
in a room that is green,
as we both share top billings
that we haven't yet seen.

Write on~~~~~~Right on!!!

For Roy and JaneK and
all of my peers at:

Hey Roy,
thanks for the read and the comments as always.
Your work is inspiring and it's easy to extend the topic into another gathering of thoughts." as your quote above says: I say, "You've got to play in a lot of Hells
before you get to entertain the Gods."

Rise again from your down under land
Rip your doubts asunder and stand
Be the star that you are with your well worn guitar
And bathe in the applause of adoring fans

A note inspired and blunders unplanned
Then chords find progressions to meet your demands
Lyric and harmony flow and expand

chasing hits but more cautious,
till their names brought them fame
and their music was flawless.

Millions of artists all dream the same dream
Of singing a perfect song and covet top billing
But music is a gift that was meant to be free
And the ones who make it bleed for what they believe

Just messing around here a bit smile

Funny, you were always a star to me M.

Love the write...your cadence is amazing and something I strive to perfect. I loved the poem and the idea and the story of following the musician, but we can only satisfy our own muses and all of the other stuff is out of our control I guess. I have joined poetry groups and tried to get involved with other poets because I learned that I love to recite my poetry, but have found that rhyming poetry isn't the "thing" anymore and it leaves me feeling a bit empty that I can't be included or find some sort of place where my poems belong. Have you had this experience at all friend with this new prose? Sorry to chat in a public forum LOL, I just got a bit melancholy and missing your thoughts on matters. I am glad to see you again and read your art friend....

When I am dealing with the non-rhyming staccato timing, poetry miming, hardcore, free style pulp of folks that insist you be hung on a cross look, if you disappoint them. I simply prepare for such groups by taking each word out of my poems that rhyme and replace them with words that mean the same but don't Rhyme.

I find that the meaning and the story and the read are just as flowing and they hold the same impact as a rhyming work. But what I publish on the web is always...well most of the time rhyming because the non-purists out there of which there are millions still expect poetry to rhyme, like they were taught in school and we must satisfy their needs to find amazing rhyme. I too have missed our communion in my chase for some grasp of fame's hem, Friends far too often, sadly get left behind in the tiny whirlwinds that occasionally sweep me away from those who were with me at the beginning. But You can chat in a public forum whenever you like with me. I live for the Public and I have nothing to relay that should not be public...LOL there is a whloe lot that makes me sore in the word censor
