I can sing but not well enough to do most songs justice. May I suggest you check out J. Gale Kilgore at
http://www.eyeball-records.com You may have to Google it. He is a pretty good singer and does budget demos. Good luck.

Hi Tony

I VERY RARELY HEAR ANYONE Stating that some of their earlier work was

crap; I think you are being hard on yourself, but what you have done could be

a Very Positive Step in the Right or even the Write Direction


I often look back , at some of my early stuff and become truly embarrassed

at what I had written. I realized we have to go through that period of writing

songs that today would be classed as less than average


I wish a few more here and on other sites would realize that its a massive learning

curve

Whats the point of having Fifty Plus Songs on Sound Cloud or similar ,when a true

count of our very good songs could be as little as One ? that still needs work

In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.

Someone said, "Songwriting is re-writing." I do a lot of editing during the writing of a Song. I often wish I could capture it as a demonstration of the technique. Mostly the edits are forgotten as the choice that ends up in the Song takes hold.

John Lennon, with much success in Songwriting, lamented throwing away a lot of his early stuff, saying, "Who was I to judge?"
I think he meant that, at the time he threw out a batch of old creations, judging them as not worth keeping, he didn't have the critical eye he developed later in life that may have seen the qualities in the works, instead of focusing on the flaws.

As for singing, I encourage people to sing with the voice you've got. It's not so much the voice as the Melodies you give it to sing that matters. Jimi Hendrix sang with the voice he had. Macy Gray? Louis Armstrong?

But the Melodies. The key of G or A or any key, used a million times, still has unlimited potential to be 'dressed' in a new Melody with a new Lyric and be pleasing to the ear. Singers often sing with an obvious intent just to get to the end of the Line, as opposed to finding the Melody, the Rhythm of the Lyric, hitting the Rhyme. I recommend the Nursery Rhyme style as a way to break the four-Line routine, the ABAB Rhyme-Scheme most Lyricists get stuck on.

1. Little Miss Muffet,
2. sat on a tuffet,
3. eating her curds and whey.
4. Along came a spider,
5. sat down beside her,
6. and scared Miss Muffet away!

The 'Hard Rhyme', straight Line 1 and Line 2, and the Line 3 last word left hanging, Un-Rhymed.
Then the repeat, Hard-Rhyme Lines 4 & 5, and Line 6 picking up the Rhyme for Line 3, can be very effective in 'Hook Factor', hooking listener interest because of the Rhythm that it makes of the Rhyme. Its AABCCAB Rhyme-Scheme isn't the standard, the common, the expected. And can sound just as natural in a modern Song Lyric as it does in Nursery Rhymes.

All that to find innovative Melody, and that to enable you to sing with the voice you have, and make a good impression on the listening audience. Keep exploring. The possibilities are endless.
