Sentiment stuff aimed at the Irish MOR market.
Mike Zaneski obliged with his remarkable talents as a singer musician and producer.
I asked Mike for an alternative intro and it's here on the top link
Regards
John

PS i've posted a previous version of the lyric in error but it isn't too far removed from the one you'll hear.
I'll replace it soon!

http://sclk.co/r/s8a3zy FINAL VERSION

 Last of the Summer Wine
V1
Our flame was strong
dancing burning.
We were both young
though quickly learning
Love was as sweet
as nectar in spring
never felt so complete
as when you wore my ring
C
Drink what's left of the summer wine
winters ending soon, spring is close behind
Keep those special moments locked in our memories for all time
shared forever the last of the summer wine
V2
Time moved along
without warning
Where had time gone?
'Tween evening and morning
Two hearts beat as one
 through rough and smooth
you've been my only one
bless the day I met you
C
Drink what's left of the summer wine
winters ending soon, spring is close behind
Keep those special moments locked in our memories for all time
shared forever the last of the summer wine
B
Summer's kisses, winter's tears
when friends we loved are no longer here
Absent faces lives eclipsed
vanishing into that winter mist

V1 REPEATED
Our flame was strong
dancing burning
We were so young
though quickly learning
Love was sweet
as roses in spring
never felt so complete
as when you took my ring
C
Drink what's left of the summer wine
winters ending soon, spring is close behind
Keep those special moments locked in our memories for all time
shared till forever the last of the summer wine

Beautiful lyric. It really takes you to another place and masterful production and vocal by Michael.

When I saw the title, I expected Compo, Foggy and Clegg to appear somewhere in the lyric smile Might that be a problem with people expecting to hear that iconic harmonica?

Great production, as always, although the intro with mandolin (or is it a bouzouki) and penny whistle seems to be a bit lonely frown. I was looking forward to hearing more of those. They certainly gave the start an Irish flavor. Had me playing along.

The lyric positively oozes sentimentality, big dollops of it and the arrangement helps squeeze out every last drop - mission accomplished! It might not be my cup of tea, but it might just hit the spot for all those Irish mammies that love Daniel O'Donnell and his colleagues. I hope so.

Hi John and Mike.
Very good production and nice lyrics...Well put together and performance.

Not something I'd listen too regularly, but enjoyed the listen.

Hi Gavin.
My 3 favourite characters in the series especially Foggy!
I asked Mike for an alternative intro as i thought version one was maybe a little busy.
I much prefer the newer version and as you said,Mike does such a great job.
And yes oozing sentiment lol

Hi Travis and Mike.
It's a fine musical balance apart from the fiddle in the intro (I think it's a fiddle). For me it doesn't add anything but confusion and maybe it's better left out.
The melody doesn't jump out at me but that could be just me.
Good luck with Mr. Odonell.

Thanks Marty, Dave B, Mimmo, and Gavin..

Glad you listened and enjoyed. I think it's a really nice song that John wrote and I tried to do right by it.

VIc, I am at a loss to try and understand how stating the the title's vocal melody instrumentally in the intro is confusing as it is a common practice in much popular music, but thanks, as well, for listening. smile

Hi Mike.
I had another listen. If the "fiddle" is playing the melody in the intro maybe it should be louder. To my ears it's not standing out from the guitar enough.

Vic..

Done..

I put it down the middle and made it louder. Whether John decides to use it or not is up to him. What he had asked me to do, in the intro, was " just a acoustic guitar or even a piano intro with maybe violin/ fiddle descreetly in the background?"

Which is what I thought I had accomplished..but, now he has another option, which can't be a bad thing.

I am ALWAYS open to make changes. Especially in the first 2/3 weeks when a song is still fresh in my folders. If I have time to write mini-essays on "copyright and the modern composer" I certainly have time to make changes to my friends' and clients' songs, of which I consider John both..

I must say though that it is impossible to please everyone, yanno?

But respecting your opinion it was a no-brainer to just DO IT and send John aka Travis the file, and let him decide..

Mike

If I work on an arrangement for a while I stop hearing it as it sounds overall and just hear the individual parts.

Hi Vic & Mike

Vic
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I did ask for a fiddle descreetly in the background on the intro.
Mike happily did this and my preference shifted from version one to the new one.
The initial intro though good, seemed a little busy and i asked for simplicity.
This is version 3 which i believe is better still and i trust works better for you this time?
Thanks Mike
For the changes and help throughiut the oroject
Regards
John

So it's your fault, Travis. :-)

Better intro. More definite.

Nah..LOL..after sleeping on it I realize the fault is mine because I didn't use true background material for the fiddle. Background as in sustained notes. I used the title theme with an added appoggiatura or "turn" which makes it more detailed than should be in the background.

I should take the hit on this, not John. cry cry cry cry

Smiling, but sincere..

I requested a bloody fiddle and i'll bare the brunt of the condemnation.
I was thinking bagpipes, might work too.
Anyhow thanks Vic and Mike of course
Can't wait for the next song, it's a folk song again about fiddles.

Really beautiful melody and lyrics and Mike's vocals fit the song perfectly. I have always been a fan of Irish music. This song works for me.

Just Plain Quotes
"Just Plain Folks is like a plow. A plow is a tool that can be used to help feed thousands of hungry people. But there are two groups of people on the planet. One group of people realizes that for the plow to help feed people, they must actually USE the plow to prepare the field to grow the food to feed the people. The second group of people are the ones who stand and stare at the plow and wait for the food to drop out of it. Of course that group is much smaller because those people all eventually starve to death." –Brian Austin Whitney
