One of the most important principles of songwriting is to remember that a good song is a partnership of many different components, all working together to produce a satisfying musical experience.

In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.

Hi Cheyenne,

I've just sent one along (as a link to the song on my Reverbnation page). Should be easy to access.

I'll see what else I might have in my archives.

Humm,
I tried to send an E-Mail but the address was rejected. If they canvass this Site they can listen to a few of my songs under Rays Music at http://www.geocities.ws/fiverosesmusicgroup/ . Thanks. RES.

Well, wouldn't ya know it. I made a mistake in copying the E-Mail. So I went back and checked and re-typed the E-Mail and it went. Well nothing ventured nothing gained. eh?

I think a useful tool for all commercially viable songwriters would be to get your stuff on to Spotify. Sure, there are web pages you can post stuff which may be totally fine for this opportunity (thanks for posting Cheyenne) but i think having your stuff on the worlds largest music platform is important. You should also set up a YouTube channel and post your stuff on your own channel there. Always use the current tools to make your stuff available on the most popular platform

Just something to consider for professional level writers.

Then again Brian, if an artist is looking for something new, other than a song thousands of listeners already heard, the artist may pass on that one. One of my publishers did load a bunch of my instrumentals on Spotify, but that's another story...

BTW, we don't say it often enough, but thank you for creating this music meeting & conversing space.

John, well thank you and the others here for making it what it is. Without all of you, there is only me right?

I hear you on that concern, but it is a concern I also shared in the old days, but no longer. YouTube especially is a no brainer because it is FREE. Spotify means you have to go through an intermediary so it may cost you. You can even activate and de-activate your catalog as needed on YouTube. So you could upload ALL of your stuff, hide it and only put songs you are pitching out for the public access as needed. But you want to ALWAYS be convenient. That means make it easy for anyone to consume your work on their terms on any platform they are comfortable with. Since those are far and away the largest (along with iTunes though I know much less about them not being a Mac guy (yes I know anyone can listen to iTunes) it isn't what I think of first. But be available immediately on the platform of people's likely choices. I know I always get bummed when I have to go to sites I don't use to listen to something. I know a lot of industry guys who feel the same way. They ALL have access to YouTube, Spotify and iTunes as a regular part of their work, so those 3 should be mandatory. I am not saying non-pros should do this, if you have weak material, I wouldn't promote it beyond this message board while you get feedback and improve that song or better, the next song you write which hopefully will get you closer to posting it for all to see. But don't put your flawed material up on Spotify, use another site where you can quickly pull it back down once you get feedback and either upload the fixed version later or the next better song and so on. However once you have a song that is locked and loaded and presents you in the absolute best light you can present, then get it up there. I think you may be able to activate/deactivate your stuff on Spotify too, but I am not positive (hopefully one of you on Spotify can confirm or correct me on that).

If you work with someone who only wants stuff no one has ever heard, then keep it private of course. Otherwise, rep your best stuff that is ready for the commercial market on the places a potential consumer most likes to listen to music.

Hey Cheyenne,

Urgently ? Really ? And they are in studio lockdown ? At this late stage of development ?

I think someone may be pushing the panic button to seek attention. To me, it doesn't add up.

cheers, niteshift

I'm actually in agreement with nite, in my experience.....by the time I am in studio....I have the songs lined out and they have been rehearsed to death.

If not (to me anyway), something is amiss.

Three cents.

HI NITE SHIFT So what is your point ,??? and when did you last have something on the radio ??

This Particular Singer , was unhappy with some of the songs that were presented ,

I assume when you go in the studio, you are counting the pennies, and are writing most

of your own songs or co writing

The particular singer who requested more songs is not Nashville based and is a co producer

with the project , There is a big difference between full time and part time, as I am sure you

will agree

JPF has some very good writers , many may not have had the big break.

Marvin Addcock is one of those who has sent us some songs many better than those on offer

and that came about through my posting , I can tell you from my experience this happens time

and time again. Nothing is amiss as maccharles states , but then if you both feel you

know better that's your opinion, and yours alone
.

Re your assumption NIiteshift no one is pushing the panic button as you infer ---- This is a Pro Set Up,

and indeed that Studio will be booked for as long as it takes, whenever both parties the Studio and

the Artist are Free .

Stick to what you know chaps, not what you belive or assume.

The response has been great , and will still be open until further notice , watch this space guys

Cheyenne

PS don't spoil it for others we are not all attention seekers , as you seem to put it?? have a

bit of faith in humanity ,

Humm, Well,
I would like to know more about the Artist. His name, if he has had albums out before, if he has a Record Label, A Web Site where we can hear him, etc.
Hearing what he sounds like helps to select songs that may fit him. Good luck in finding songs.

For whatever reason, it's a shot in the dark Roy.

Look at it this way....a shot in the dark versus no shot at all.
Nothing lost unless someone steals your song. If they do, hope that they make a fortune with it so that a lawyer will take it on contingency. wink

I suggest you send something along and see what, if anything, comes of it.

Marvin Addcock is one of those who has sent us some songs many better than those on offer

Um, Martin,
(Roy), uh Ray here. They asked for links only where they could listen to songs and actual songs sent by E-Mail would be deleted. Nuff said. I have plenty of good songs to submit if they ask for them. Not many people looking these days.

Geez cheyenne, I only meant in my experience that I don't see that situation much at all.

And yes, I guess from now on I'll "stick to what I know".

Sorry.

Golly John,
Now you have let the Cat out of the Bag. You should not be so hard on Martin. He may be wading in deep water!

And I guess the singer would like to know more about who is sending what ??? It works too

ways ---------

Most here have sent in a link to a particular song , That's okay , But a link to several

songs , is okay as well

Obviously a known writer with past hits would get some priority, but sadly many are leaving

the Writing Game owing to the poor returns Via This New World Of Streaming

This Album is going out on C D and Vinyl, on a Major U K Label release date not

known at this time,

That's it , And Thanks To The Great Response From You Guys and Gals out there

Best Of Luck, but lets be realistic My Publisher sent out 650 demos of the same song

that he had co written, and after five years of moaning and groaning and rejection

it became a Big Hit , but then you all know about that, and who it was

(No Brownie points for guessing)

Thats my take on it all and hope its of help to someone, ,

One of the most important principles of songwriting is to remember that a good song is a partnership of many different components, all working together to produce a satisfying musical experience.

In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.

Hey Cheyenne,

Good luck to everyone involved.

I'm simply saying that if the executive producer hasn't nailed this one by now, he/she should be fired from the project.

cheers, niteshift

FAIR COMMENT niteshift

At the end of the day , the internal politics , does not concern me , and if

it gives someone else a chance to get recognition , that's okay by me

It's fairly simple to just send an E MAIL to get a listening at no extra cost

to the writer

Vell Sweetheart,
I have sent thousands of submissions over the years. In every case I knew who the Artist was, the person doing or producing the songs. It was no secret who the Artist was. Of course some were sMALL pUBLISHERS speculating on finding good songs to submit to artists looking for songs. Some were rank amateurs and it showed. So knowing a lot more about this artist, any artist can only be good. It costs me about $7.00 to send a submission. So more info about the Artist looking for songs please!

Oh, a bit more info. All my songs are Registered W/Library of Congress. I am affiliated with BMI. I have a lot of good songs. Do you have some good Artists?

Hi Cheyenne,

I threw my hat in this ring just for kicks. The demo the amazing Michael Zaneski made from my song "Where We've Been" needed to be dusted off and played again. It's worth a listen.
Thanks for the opportunity!

Peace,

Dave

Yes just catching up after ten days without phones ----a 30 meter high tree on

my land fell and knocked out the Telephone Supply Line consequently I

have just got it back . Most acts that are well known, tend not to ask for

New songs from sites that have a mix of good--- and lets say not so good writers .

Most Top Acts like to keep it quiet about new releases.

Just think about Adelle, no one except her managers knew about this woman

with a sensational voice who was about to be launched into The Hyper Singer

bracket, so no point in naming her;

Of course in this case the request was for Country Songs so there is no real

comparison, as John States we can all set our own rules for submissions

And its only cost is your time

Just tried my luck here.

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Well,
Hope the person finds songs he likes. I got a call from my former Publisher who put my songs on another site that my song MUD IN YOUR EYE was the number one song over there. Getting a lot of plays. I do have several pretty good songs. One time a Producer sent me an unsoliciated letter of how much he liked my songs and I could submit anytime. He said he didn't just send this to just anybody. Write a Hit!

I like to think of my writing abilities as somewhere just above "not so good" and just below "we must sign you RIGHT NOW!" LOL!!

At least you listened to it. Thanks for the opportunity!

Hi Cheyenne:

In today's music world, this is what I consider to be an old post... LOL! They say "timing" is everything... and as of yesterday, I have no "link(s)" to offer. Did I fail to see the genre or sub-genre the artist in question is seeking?

Thank you for advising JPF of this opportunity and I wish you tons of success with the project. So glad to see you mentioned our pal, Marvin. He is some kind of writer.

All the best, ----Dave
