I first saw Rowan Atkinson performing in a tiny venue at the Edinburgh Festival in the 1980s. My brother and I had not managed to get into the show we had set out to see and were walking to the pub when we saw this tiny sign pointing down a narrow alley, advertising a performance by this bloke we'd never heard of. We thought, "What the heck," and went in, joining about 20 others in this cramped room (a fairly typical situation at the Edinburgh Festival, where every available inch of space has something going on in it.) It was amazing - one of those moments, when you know you are seeing the start of something special. He did a lot of the sketches he became famous for shortly thereafter - changing into swimming trunks while still wearing his trousers, the father of the bride speech and this classic, which is still my favorite.
