GONE BY DAWN Martin Lide Songwriter and lead vocals Brent Mason (via NashvilleTrax.com) Rhythm guitar and electric lead fills Michael Zaneski Backing vocals, production and all other instrumentation (virtual or actual) https://soundcloud.com/user-560839147/gone-by-dawnI've put this song up before and never liked my rhythm guitar, I was talking to Bill Watson of NashvilleTrax.com about what he might add to fill out the song some and he suggested that he had Brent Mason coming in for a session and would include this song in the session. So my rhythm guitar was swapped out for Mason's and Mason added lead fills. A very fortunate occurrence. The intro "lick" that introduces the song was composed by Michael Zaneski. Martin

Nice gentle vocal delivery Martin. A lucky break at the studio too.
Lovely song.

Good stuff. Brent's daughter used to sing on streetjelly and her dad and brother would occasionally join in. Talented family.

Thanks Ted.
The song did not provide Mason with an opportunity to show off, but I thought that what he did was tasteful and filled in nicely between the lyrics. So did Mike's mandolin. Really happy with what they did.

Hi Martin/Marty/Sunset: (LOL!)
I remember this "introductory song" to your musical experiment. I would like it with just about any appropriate backing... but Mason and Mike did "Yeoman's Work" with this version. As always, best of luck with your project.
Your vocal will do the selling for you... and if you ever decide to "invade" Zee's territory by providing vocals for a fee... I have a song or two needing your talent.

Thanks Dave. As for vocals, I'm not very good. I have to spend months with a song sometimes working around limitations in my voice until I have something that is passable enough, to EQ, compress and auto-tune. I've tried two or three times to sing people's stuff like they want me to and have not had the natural tools to do it. Having said that...I'm very appreciative of your unfailing encouragement over a period of years and if you have a song that you want me to take a shot at...I will. I refuse to charge you, but please understand that what I give you may be worth what you paid for it. Thanks again for all the kind words and encouragement. Marty

Vic, Ted, and Dave,
Thanks, guys.
Gone By Dawn kicks off the song-cycle and immediately I care about these people.
Working on this two years after the original production--I was feeling stuff just as strongly.
Testament to some crafty yet heartfelt writing on Marty's part.
Thanks again,
Mike

Love the narration and the expressive way you tell the story. The music fits the mood to a T but then of course you wouldn't want it any other way, but it's still a task. I've always enjoyed talkie songs, one can convey incredibly moving emotions in any song. Then you went onto the melody and vocals with stellar harmonies and even more mood stting tones.. you have a knack for lyrics too Martin....they were always good at telling tales in Texas as far back as Hell the Jurassic period. Thanks for an enjoyable ride therough your creative mind.

JAPOV
Thank you. I always aim for relatable in my songs, but with this song it wasn't forefront. I thought the song was odd and just let it happen and kept coming back to it over a period of years. But now that it is finished, I think there are pieces of this type of tragedy that many families have seen.
Thanks for the listen and the encouragement.

Don't think ny voice is anywhere close enough to deep enough to pull off this kid of tune. I like the smooth easy feel of this....Never heard the original, but this has nice surprises. the lix are spot on too

Very good....pitchable, but what do I know. Excellent kick in the chorus Thanks Neil. Regarding pitchable...probably not Talkie, but not rap. (obsolescence) Miles too long (non viable given todays attention spans) miles too far to the chorus unpleasant subject matter (downer) Makes a moralistic statement (preachy) a woman is cast as the cheater (misogynistic and never happens in real life, right? A man is cast as the cheat-ee (Victim? She only cheated on him because he didn't give her the emotional support that she needed... or for some other very good reason) Did I miss anything? But I do plan to finish up the story and put it out on Spotify et al and see if anyone clicks on it. In a couple of years I may surpass 5 dollars in gross earnings. Thanks again for stopping by, Martin
