Thought I would share another of my "Early Dave" songs... sorta in the vein of a "blues number" married to a folk song... and the lyrics are embeded at the "Ramp" where I will attempt to establish a link for you. Be patient! I am old, feeble and just about "out of gas" these days! LOL! The scene is East Texas and the cast of characters will be self explanatory. https://www.songramp.com/musicsharing/listen/music_12486/Sorry for the "dead link" folks. The SongRamp is officially dead according to the notice posted yesterday. I posted a new link to the same song now own SoundCloud and it is about 20 posts below... give or take a couple. Gavin helped me navigate the intricacies of setting up a free account there. He is the best! Thanks for listening. ----Dave

Hi Dave. I imagined JJ Cale doing this. The only bit I wasn't keen on is the musical break. It didn't seem required, at least not for that long.

Thanks for listening and commenting, Vic:
The long "breaks" were done with the thought that some "in the audience" might be dancing... LOL! I wonder if folks even do that anymore? Remember, old friend, I grew up the the "Bobby-Sox-Hoop-Skirt Era!"
Anybody ever tell you that you have "good ears?"
All the best, ----Dave

Hi Dave, I could hear this as Lou Rawls' follow-up to "You'll Never Find." Smooth crooner-like vocals over an Eighties Disco/R & B rhythm section, and I bet there's a bunch modern artist with retro leanings who would love this. though the composition itself could become any one of several genres. Nice song and performance. Move over, John Fogerty, there's another great Lodi song in town! Mike

Don't see any unfortunate in your vocals. I enjoyed the mood and the expressiveness that you put into each line of the lyrics. Hell I've been to Lodi and it's dismal personna makes your vocals sound like Elvis at his best...LOL The music is phenomenal and it had my feet tapping out each beat. All in all a great song for sure.

Thanks for taking time in your busy schedule, Mike:
Many undeserved comparisons there... and I'm flattered but still know it won't get me where I need (or want) to be in the Music World. I hope you are happy, productive and busy with your excellent work.
All my best... ----Dave

Thanks for your comments and for listening, Matt:
You are much too kind. Last time I took time to count them... there are at least four or five places named Lodi in the United States. While the Texas Lodi is far from dismal... the one in Arkansas had shrunk into little more than a speck on the map. Never got a chance to see Lodi, California. The rest remain on my pre-bucket list of unimportant tasks.

Hah!! We've got a Lodi in Ohio.....I think some aliens landed years ago and set one up in all the states......so you'd better get your BUCKET List in gear if you hope to be amazed by then all. A gig in every one would work for sure. LOL

Hi Jane:
Thanks for the "heads-up" about the link. I just checked and sure enough... it appears that SongRamp is down for maintenance... or worse. Music websites are really having a tough time staying alive these days... and they were once the top of the ladder, associated with NSAI (the Nashville Songwriter's Association) until the split happened.
Check back when you can... or if it is convenient, maybe tomorrow. I hope they haven't "gone off the air" but these things happen.
Regards, ----Dave

Hi Mimmo:
Looks like the Ramp has finally sunk into oblivion... so the "link" is probably not going to work now. I'm sorry my friend. Seems like all the places I put my songs are "going down by the helm" and I don't have the energy to go through all that "sign-up" stuff these days. Thanks for taking time to try to listen.
When I'm feeling better, I'll muster up the courage to do something about "my problem" and find a free, non-invasive music site that will allow me to post my songs while retaining complete ownership and control. Not sure that will happen but I will try.
Good to hear from you, my friend. All my best, ----Dave

Won't play for me Dave. I do like the title. My favorite Uncle lived in Lodi - Uncle John. Don't know why anyone would choose to live there. But I reckon somebody has to. Best, John

Dave,
You could post your songs on Soundcloud or Reverbnation - they don't cost for their basic services.

It's easy to store you songs on Broadjam.com as well. And also doesn't cost anything. John

Dave, I really wanted to listen to this. If you have it as an mp3 or .wav or whatever, it takes only a moment to sign up at SoundCloud and it's free. and really, really simple to upload.
There is a paid service, which gives you some extra features for about $6 a month, but the only important one is the ability to replace a file with a new one without posting it as a whole new song. If you don't need that, the free service is just fine.

Thanks, Gavin:
It's probably going to take me a little while to get signed up with SoundCloud (or BroadJam as Schick suggested) so if you'll send me a PM with an E-address for you, I'll send you the MP3 file as an attachment. Otherwise, it's waiting for an old geezer to fumble his way through the fog! LOL! For sure, it will be a "free" service, no matter which one.
I'm somehow remembering back in my early days, I was checking these or similar sites out and they required MP3 file more than 128 baud. (WAV files are at least 4 times as big so that seems too clumsy.)
Regards, ----Dave

Gavin Sinclair gave me a hand in setting up a SoundCloud Free Account and I'm posting the link to "I LOST MY LOVE IN LODI" here: https://soundcloud.com/user-918315765/i-lost-my-love-in-lodiSorry for the "glitch" with the SongRamp. I still have much to learn about SoundCloud but at least, you can hear it now... plus two others. Regards to all, ----Dave

Hi Jane:
Thanks for taking time to re-visit "Lodi"... and no, this particular Lodi is located about 20 miles north of Marshal, Texas. I believe one of the other Lodi's is located not too far from Bakersfield but I've never been there.

Hi, all:
I was looking for a Dave song with a vocal. He had some good ones as I recall on SoundCloud, but he must have taken them down. But here's one still on SongRamp.
I think Dave was overly modest about his vocal abilities--always liked his tone. Enjoy!

When I helped Dave with his SoundCloud account, I discovered he already had one that he'd forgotten about. There is one song there, this one: https://soundcloud.com/dave_rice/nothing-to-remember
