Hi Folks, I was reading a thread called "why..lyrics only folks" and I noticed some talk about how it would be nice if there was a place to drop off instrumentals for lyric writers to use for whatever, and Brian said this is the place. I realized I probably had at least a few things that weren't embarrassing and were in the pop/folk/country realm that comprise the majority of the writers here, so here's one, for now. They're mostly old as now I'm mainly doing experimental instrumentals in my free time. These will be aborted song projects of one kind or another. https://soundcloud.com/michael-zaneski/crazy-carousel/s-1F1cSThere's all kinds of free music on the Web that you can use to either help with lyric writing, or to use for a musical bed, or as a finished track minus vocals. Look at the bottom for links to help you find more free music to sing over, add lyrics to, etc.. I made the download a WAV file so it's high quality. It's a rambunctious little tune in 9/8 @ 96 BPM that dates from 2006. I had it titled "I Have Kissed You In My Mind" --but I remember that I finally wrote that lyric to a different piece of music, so this one I can release under a Creative Commons license that allows anyone to use it and even make derivative music by chopping it up or whatever. I chose a license that let's you use it commercially as well, with your added vocals, and don't feel compelled to use my title, but go where the spirit moves you. I just ask that you name me as the composer of the music if you post is somewhere or put it on an album. This is one of three variations of Creative Commons licenses. DO NOTE that this WILL NEVER be "first come/first serve" so even if one JPF member uses my abandoned audio, anyone else can still feel free to do the same. That's the way CC licensing works. Have fun, Mike ******************************************************* Use common sense when looking for CC licensed stuff. If it shows the artist as being one currently with a record label/deal, it's probably something in a DJ mix that is NOT really free to create derivatives and/or use commercially. Soundcloud music to modify commercially-you will need to enter at least a letter like " a " in the "search field to pull up some results: https://soundcloud.com/search/sounds?filter.license=to_modify_commerciallyYoutube free music - must log in to get this list: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/musichttps://archive.org"the archive" is difficult to navigate, cuz there's a lot of stuff in there, and a lot is crap, but most is either public domain or with one of the CC licenses. Also, in youtube, use the Creative Commons filter to unlock thousands more free music files to use in your projects. Be industrious! Mike

Be industrious! Mike Pretty cool. I came up with something very quickly for this, but it seems it doesnt have a chorus. I was getting an ELO vibe going. That decending riff reminds me of the end of the Born To Run break. For those interested in my two cents...it's a swing, 3/4 time, kind of big bandish. Perhaps try a Love is a Crazy Carousel theme.

Thanks Donna, Marty, FD..
FD, there is a chorus that happens twice, first at 1:27 (Cm/Bb/Ab/Bb/etc) then at 2:32, and yes swing waltz or 9/8 @ 96 BPM.. If I upload more of these "abandoned projects" in the coming months I'm sure there will be some with actually only one section. But perhaps someone can still find a use for those. They certainly aren't doing me or anyone any good slumbering on two external drives.
I'm making them available only through private links, so they're pretty much exclusively for JPF members.
I added "archive.org" to the list in my post. It's a behemoth to navigate, but there's some amazing stuff in there.
Also, use common sense. If you Google the artists' name and they have a current record deal, check closely and it's probably a DJ mix that has the CC license and not the actual artists' music.
When you find something you want to use, but there's no download associated with it, use a third party app like Total Recorder or Audacity to record from the Web into your PC.
Mike

Thanks Matt, thanks John.. Matt, no need to ask! Feel free to cut up the audio, add to it, do whatever you want to do. My intention is that anyone here who might find a use for some of my old abandoned projects to be able to swiftly and neatly just do so. The way this CC license works is anyone can create derivative works but there's no exclusivity for being first to it. None, one or many can feel free to use the audio in any way shape or form and even commercially. If things go as planned, I can release these using a Creative Commons "Derivative Works and Commercial Use Okay" license and keep them linked privately to the JPF site. John, yes, it wouldn't be a bad thing if doing this kinda thing became a trend. Mike

Hi John, Entirely coincidental, but funny and weird considering out last talk involved me posing a scenario about how you would feel if a friend consciously stole bits and pieces of your music and strung them together and called it their own! So John, maybe let folks know that this track and your song have absolutely nothing to do with each other, other than (I imagine) them both being kinda waltzes and having the same title. Me arriving at the title, as well..purely coincidence. As I said, the file "final2" was living inside a folder called "I have Kissed You In My Mind" since late 2005, but I decided to use a more sexy kinda arrangement, something more Dennis Yost "Spooky" kinda vibe using the same verse chords (dm7/Cmaj7/dm7/Cmaj7)..and so abandoned the project in 2006; though I never found the time to create the new arrangement, the project still exists in my head as a 4/4 song now, much slower and sexier. Less than 2 days ago, while looking for something to add to the Creative Commons for lyric folks here, I listened to the file and realized I needed to change the title and thought it reminded me of a "Rambunctious Carousel" which was the title I original was going to use, but then forced myself to find a nicer more alliterative sounding adjective--hence "crazy." Mike Postscipt.. Upon Googling, it turns out to be a few folks have used that title, with the most salient write being from Jacques Brel, titled "Carousel" but always singing "crazy carousel" in the lyric. I realize too that I vaguely must know this song--it's the very first song in the brilliant Mort Shuman musical "Jacques Brel Is Alive And Well And Living In Paris" which I've heard dozens of times, and love Brel's work. I hope other folks find a different lyric theme, lol.. https://lyricsinsongwriting.blogspot.com/2007/10/im-on-carousel-crazy-carousel.html

Ha, ha! Yes, funny & ironic Mike. Do you want to settle out of court? The only thing in common with our two songs is the title. And also funny telling you I was expecting 3/4 time. Cal & my song isn't either. I have several other carousel tracks in my collection. My collection is about 5,000 titles, so it isn't surprising to find other music with same titles. I wouldn't ordinarily post songs on someone's thread, but just so there's no doubt. Here's "Crazy Carousel" by Cal DiFalco and me, with Mimmo singing: http://schicksville.com/carousel%20Mimmo.mp3Best, John
