Martin Lide
Songwriter, lead vocal, rhythm guitar

Michael Zaneski ("the Mikestro")
Production and all other instrumentation and backing vocals

The song is the last in a 7 song story. A young man who was cheated upon, but still loved the young woman very much, finally decides after a period of years that he can love no one else and needs to forgive her. He drives to Cheyenne, Wyoming where she lives to put their relationship back together. This song describes how it resolves.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlLsrvhGHdc

I put the video together quick and plan to finish it later when work is less busy. For now, the lyrics are in the video. The song is long. If you dont like long "story" songs, you wont like this one.

An amazing song, Martin. The end of a "novel" of sorts... and although heartbreaking, realistic. As Travis said, Mike's production was stunning... and I would wrestle a Bear to have a vocal as pure and honest as yours.

The lyric is probably equal to the melody in this song-story... and I applaud you.

I've been staying away from JPF due to circumstances beyond my control and probably won't return. Regardless, I feel such an obligation to support your efforts in "plowing new ground" with your music and talent... and the remarkable team you've put together in getting this project done. Wishing you success, happiness and all the good things life can bring.

Regards, ----Dave

Travis...
Thank you. The two of us have enjoyed great enhancement of our hobby from knowing "The Mikestro."

Thank you for your unfailing words of encouragement. I don't know what... "due to circumstances beyond my control and probably won't return" means, but know that I am always wishing for your well being. Regards.

Thanks Pete.

I don't think that my song-story has anywhere to go, but I felt the need to have something tangible and worthwhile to show for my songwriting hobby. When Michael Zaneski came along, he provided the means to that.

Hi Martin,

Wow! I love everything about this song. Fantastic production, clear and present vocals, and a great melody and story.

I need to get my songs in order and work with Mike. I keep putting it off. The sound in this recording is better than any professional studio I've used where I'm located.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Jane. wink

I use Presonus Studio One software and a Shure PGA27 mic suggested to me by a young man at Guitar Center. ($250)
I send Mike reasonably decent wavs of the Vocals and Rhythm Guitar done from home, and then I move out of his way. In the first couple of songs I did with Mike, I got a little involved with the production and then learned that the best way to work with a person of Mike's skills and sensibilities is to leave him alone and un-distracted so that he can pull all the pieces together without concern for being second-guessed. After a while, he "learned me" and lately I make no significant suggestions for fear of diminishing what he's done. He's a super guy.

You have a lovely voice. He will make you sound even better. And yes, the tune that you posted would sound more seamless and polished had it been done by Mike...imho.

Good luck,

Martin

Thank you Martin.

You know, I think I will love leaving the production part to someone else for a change. It takes a lot of time and patience, which I am lacking lately.

"Tears Are Us"
Bittersweet tears in this case. The relationship was lost but love soldiered on.
Thanks for supporting my song story. Deeply appreciated.

Steve..

Thanks for the listen.
The woman didn't really change as I imagine her. She was always good, but in her mid-twenties she went out for "girls night out" with some old high school friends and got lost in the moment, and got drunk and coked up and did something that would never have happened otherwise and never happened again.

If you're interested, that song is "Gone By Dawn."
https://www.reverbnation.com/skunko...n-1of7-original-sin?source=artistProfile

In the end, the relationship was lost, but he learned how to forgive and she redeemed and proved up her nobility by turning away "the love of her life" in order to uphold a commitment. And they both walked away with nobility. Not quite happily ever after, but life is like that a lot.

Thanks again for listening,

Marty

Martin,

Aww, shucks . . . I was hoping those two would find their way back to each other. So much for a happy ending. But I agree with others it’s the more realistic ending and fitting. Killer production on this (Mike does his usual magic) . . . generally not a fan of spoken word, but it works here . . . a perfect way to close things out. Really well done—you must be thrilled to have it behind you and proud to have created such an achievement. If you’re not, you should be.

One suggestion, maybe post links to all seven songs in the “Success Forum” (which this is) or somewhere we can access them easily. Would love to listen through all of them again in order.

Great stuff, Martin, deserving of a lot of listens.

Best regards,

Deej

Thanks as always for the encouragement and support.

The next phase in the song story is to revisit one or two of them with Mike. I never liked the way that my rhythm guitar sounded in GONE BY DAWN. And now that I've heard all of the songs, I want to fill it out a little more too. I sent the guy at the company who supplied my piano solo for TIME, an email asking for any suggestions that he might have on Saturday. He said that if I could get the track back to him with the guitar muted that he had Brent Mason coming in for a session on Monday morning and would include it in his session for a redo of the guitar. Mike got the modified track done and I got it to the producer. I don't know if you know who Brent Mason is, but ...IF....Brent Mason actually puts down a track on a song that I wrote, that will be the closest that I will get to 15 minutes of fame. Fingers are crossed that it actually happened. Should know today.

I'm hoping that he did not say..."I can't do anything to help that hopeless mess." smile

After Mike and I revisit the songs, I'm going to write a 1 to 2 minute prologue for each one of spoken narration filling out the story. Once I get that recorded, I'm going to see if I can find someone to market it as story somehow. Here's hoping. wink

One of these days, I'm gonna write a song for your voice. I'm on the look out for it waiting for it to emerge from somewhere.

Regards

Marty

Martin,

Two quick thoughts/comments:

1. Be cautious how much you tweak . . . these all sound great and I've been down that road of trying to make things sound better only to muss it up beyond repair. Trust your instincts . . . but don't over sweat the details. I'd also think about the necessity for a spoken prologue for each song and be selective in how you use that device. The songs and story, as I remember, hold their own--I'd worry that too much narration could make the whole come off as too contrived. Just something for you to ponder.

2. Took me a sec to get the Brent Mason reference . . . the name immediately resonated, but I didn't know why . . . until I realized that Brent Mason does a lot of the solo Real Tracks in BIAB (or at least a guy by the same name). And pretty sure that Brent has "laid down a track or two" in a couple of my offerings as a result. Good luck with it, Martin. My fingers are crossed for you as well.

Lastly, you write it, I'll sing it . . . exactly how you want me to (or at least try to). I trust your instincts completely.

All the best, Martin.

Deej

Hey DJ

I felt like the song needed "filling out" in a way that matches the others in the story and in a way that makes it prettier to listen to. It was the first song and I think that Mike went with the edgy-er Texas singer-songwriter "feel." Now that we've done them all, I'm want to introduce some of the fuller production aspects that he got in some of the other songs. It's a long song and I want to try to keep a listener listening on the basis of a pleasant musical background to the story.

That is the same Brent Mason. I received, not only a rhythm track with his guitar, but also a lead fills track featuring him. Having his work on my song is the closest that I will ever get to 15 minutes of fame. Mike has the tracks and when my turn comes back around, he's going to lace them into the mix.

And, when I write a song for your voice, it will be with the understanding that you can sing and interpret it however you like. I wont approach a song with you as if I was hiring you, but rather just getting together to enjoy and mutual experience and see what happens.

Regards

Marty

One last thing.

I am always bragging on the MIkestro, but once again...

These people at NashvilleTRAX,com appear to be the real deal. So far they have sent me a wonderful piano track and now two guitar tracks by a foremost guitarist, who appears to do sessions for them. When I sent the producer at NT the track that Mike did and asked him what instruments he might add...right off the bat, he complimented the quality of Mike's work. Without any sort of prompting.

That's lofty praise. Mike is most cool.

Hey, Martin all tweaks and critiques aside...It's a phenomenal song with a stellar story in seven parts and the length means nothing when it holds the listener enthralled. That you did. You are way beyond the pop pulp crap that's out there now and hopefully, song stories will come back to bless us all in abundance.

Thanks everyone!!!

Reading through these wonderful comments makes me blush a little.

This seven-song-story feels so real, to me. I really feel like I know these two.

Marty is a very talented writer with a clear vision--and a really nice guy to boot. I'm grateful for the opportunity to apply my modest skills. smile

Thanks Mike. Working on songs with you has been a pure pleasure. As far as "modest skills?" If they ever were, they aren't anymore.
