Hello, all! I made a song demo with video and released it last week - this is my first time putting a whole song together with Band in a Box. I'm looking for feedback on the mix - are the vocals too loud? Are there ways to improve my mixing? Please keep in mind I use Garageband as my main program.

Thanks so much!

What I could hear with a bad internet connection tonight sounded pretty good Laura.

I just listened, Laura... and enjoyed it very much. Really shows off that powerful vocal capability you possess. Thanks for sharing. Like Vic, I'm having to use my wife's laptop and the speakers don't do justice to the backing but you are headed in the right direction. Stick with it.. BIAB, Garageband... no matter... you have the voice and the tenacity to succeed at whatever you do.

Looking forward to your next song-post. ----Dave

I enjoyed it, Laura. You have a very good voice. I thought maybe the transition to the chorus at 1 min. 5 secs was a little abrupt. It was as if the two passages of guitar were unrelated. That might just be me. Nice work!

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement everyone! My experience with BIAB so far is a bit confusing due to learning curve but also because I think some instrument files installed in a different folder and can't be found by the program. Once I work out the bugs I know it'll be a great tool to help develop songs!

Laura,

Very pretty tuneóitís quite an impressive first foray into BIAB . . . well done. Killer vocal on this one as well. And lastly, really like what youíve done lyrically, the juxtaposition of two parents different views on their childís future. Good luck with one!

My best to you,

Deej

Hey Laura! Loved the singing, the message, and the folksy feel. However, changing the rhythm at 2:11 didn't do it for me. It seemed disruptive and a bit off-beat to the groove you had going. Would have been stronger keeping the initial groove throughout. Youíre very talented.

Best, John smile

Laura,

What a great start for your first BIAB. I really like your song, the melody works quite well with the lyrical vibe. Your lyrics are concise and poignant. Not a big deal, but I'd like to see the 2nd line (places to go) be more profound, one example: "He thinks they'll be refuge for some."

As far as your uptempo ending, I really like the concept and the change-up as a "bridge type" ending. I do agree with John however in so much that the abruptness feels perhaps too departing. However, I think that can be improved--one idea to improve that transition would be to have a short musical interlude build and launch that transition allowing the music to be more seamless at that juncture. I love the rhapsody feel of that last "bridge area" taking off with the more upbeat/positive feeling which IMO represents a "hopeful and positive" expression--a great ending concept.

Great performance--definitely potential here!
