Hello folks, MAB here.
I got a note from Brian (thanks for reaching out bud) that reminded me I had not been around for a while, so I thought I Would drop by and say hello. I'm sorry I've not been around but a few computer crashes, some browser problems and well, anything dealing with the Internet is sometimes more problems than it is worth.

I have dropped by from time to time to read much of the goings on but if I can't add much to a discussion I simply don't. My role is more in the creative songwriting process and teaching that to others, the art of performance, networking and certain elements of the music business, mostly relating to building careers. When everyone get into the in's and out's of social networking, the current state of money, or lack thereof, in the music industry, the political spectrum, or trying to make sense out of some very nonsensical things, I don't really have a lot to say about those. So I don't.

But I am always around if anyone has some thoughts or questions on their mind. The year has started out as usual, a little slow, "Nashville pretty much shuts down around the middle of November and then starts back around the middle of Feb. as recordings, touring schedules, showcases, and the business gears back up.
For me, that includes people coming into Nashville from outside, trying to gain a foothold and understand their own journey's better. Over the past month I've been involved with working with several young people from Australia on a music school trip, a retired Afghanistan veteran, from Oregon working on his band's music, and a new Australian woman on a three month vacation including Nashville in her musical journey. We all wrote songs, I took them around the town and helped them build their own musical universe that can help continue in their own states and countries.

That's a majority of what we get here. People coming in, getting some classes and education, then go back to their own neck of the woods to continue and apply what they've learned. Works quite well.

This weekend will be a "team building" day, where a corporation comes to town for their conventions or work related trips, and get several of us songwriters, often huge hit writers, who will huddle with them for thirty minutes to an hour and write a song, usually around their business. Interesting to try and use "inside language and terms" that you don't even understand. And fun to hear the entire group hear it when they are played and the laughs and inside "baseball stuff" that they only understand.

So it all continues. I hope all of your lives are going well and you continue to support the site here and all Brian's efforts. WE are all lucky to have an opportunity.

Good luck to you all.
MAB

Hi Marc.
It seems everything shuts down this time of year.
I can't even find a decent plumber without booking a month in advance.

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Aw, Well,
It's great to see you back Marc. Humm, who are you again? Just kidding! My used to be Publisher called me and said he was moving back to Brunswick, from New York and then called again and said he can't sell his house so his plans are off. I haven't contacted any music Publishers lately because they all already have enough songs they can't place and don't need anymore. I have plenty of good songs and no place to send them. He Haw!

It's always good to see you around. You don't have to write a thesis about the business when you come, you can just comment on a topic with a simple statement or agree or disagree with something, or share something that happened to you or promote something you're doing. It's a family here and it is always nice to have a visit from uncle MAB.

I guess one of the most interesting things that's happened to me recently is a couple of cuts that I find interesting.

One, is SHAUN MURPHY. She is a long time back up singer of 40 years for BOB SEEGER, who have just finished their FINAL TOUR. Bob's had back problems for years, and is finally hanging up his touring clothes. He;s very well taken care of and has done enough, so he can lay back on his lake house outside of Detroit.
Shaun, who also was a great force in LITTLE FEAT for many years, and has sung with about everyone, has been a friend for a couple of years. We wrote one together for her last CD, and now has recorded two on her latest CD. She did two of my older one's, THING FOR YOU and CAN'T BLAME NOBODY, so the old R&B MAB, pops out once again. Thanks Shaun.

The other is another one of those odd things that happen. Jim Peterik, is the purple hair driving force between songs like "HOLD ON LOOSELY, ROCKIN' INTO THE NIGHT", for 38 SPECIAL,and THE SEARCH IS OVER, and his "magnum opus" EYE OF THE TIGER" for Survivor. Jim is a great guy, GUITARAHOLIC, and still going strong. He is doing a FIFTY FIVE year anniversary for his first band, the horn monster, IDES OF MARCH (VEHICLE) and one of the songs we wrote with hit writer, Joie Scott, "BLUE STORM RISING" is one of the featured tracks. It is a duet with the current lead singer of JEFFERSON STARSHIP, Cathy Richardson.
So looking forward to hearing that one and seeing the video, they are filming now.

On my own front, I'm doing two music videos, "TABLES AND CHAIRS" and "THAT'S THE TIME I THINK OF YOU" from my own current CD. Should be done in a few weeks. Started filming last week. Nothing like standing around in a major park, dressed all in black, with a camera crew and people looking on. Nothing like keeping it low key. LOL!

Enough self promotion. Hope all of you are doing well.
MAB

Just Plain Quotes
"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
