I just posted this "Groove Version" over at the Song Ramp and will do my best to cut and paste it here. The lyrics are posted at the Ramp and you can see them there if you care to follow along... but my arthritic fingers won't permit me to re-type them here again. Old age is wonderful... and if you believe that, I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn!

Thanks for listening, ----Dave

Groovy, indeed, Dave. I was swinging along to this. If this is the groove version, the implication is that there is another version I could listen to. I'm intrigued....

Hi Gavin:

Thanks for taking time to listen and comment. Yes, there is a Southern Rock version and it came first. I devoted too much time to utilizing the vocal harmony feature of my newest keyboard and decided to try something different. I spent the afternoon re-cutting the "rock" version without harmony and believe it sounds better.

Not wanting to "hog the board" with my junk, if you want to or have time to hear it, send me a PM.

Hi Neil:

Thanks for listening... and your nice comments. I do the best I can with what little I have to work with (vocal-wise) but I wish I had started attempting to sing at a much younger age. Life deals us some strange cards... but every now and then, we get a treat and get to use websites like JPF... thanks to Brian. Here's hoping you are doing well with your music, my friend.

All the best, ----Dave

Drifts along nicely Dave you have another good song and it compliments your vocal flowing very smoothly.
An interesting title too.
A bit slow on the boards again but i know it'll get some positive comments!
Regards
John

Dave,

This one’s very easy on the ears . . . nice beat that gets the foot and head bouncing. And the vocal is so smooth (I continue to think you underestimate yourself in that regard), and you make a fine choice production wise on the sax—definitely resonates. You should give us all a link to the first version . . . like Gavin, I’d be interested in hearing the other take.

Well done, Dave.

All the best to you,

Deej

Thanks for giving it a spin, Travis:

Looks like many of our regulars are either gone for good... or holding out for better times... and I understand that. I hate to see any of us abandon Brian after all he's done for us. I don't concern myself about the participation and comments on the MP3 board so much as the "surrender" to an idea that one person's opinion(s) can drive us away from what is rightfully ours... as long as Brian cares to continue with a perpetual albatross around his neck.

Glad to see you stuck around. I miss Vic and so many other talents we share ideas and songs with. Too bad everyone can't get the past bad behavior of one person. That same person appears to be coming around to the idea that we can critique without destroying the ego and desire of the person who posted to continue. The "biz" is tough and we must develop thick skins. Criticism is how we learn and improve. We may not like what is said... but sometimes, there is a glimmer of truth in what we receive. We may not like it or even agree with it... but can you imagine being a Playright in NYC and enduring all the snide remarks posted by journalists specializing in covering Broadway?

Thanks for being a stalwart and steadfast member of our unique community.

Hi Deej:

Sorry for the delay. Grocery shopping day at WalMart in the next town north of West Mayberry. I'm pleased you listened to the R&B version of Mississippi Moss and I don't have the other version posted anywhere except on my PC. As I extended the same offer to Gavin, I'll be happy to send you the latest MP3 file of the Country/Southern Rock version if you'll PM me. (I don't want to over-populate the MP3 board with my songs. It would be unfair to those who wait patiently for their turn.)

After much anguish in trying to use the Vocal Harmony Feature of my Keyboard a bit too much, I recut it and believe it sounds better than before... but not as good as the R&B/Groove version.

Vocal Harmony is a double edged sword. A gift and a curse. Tiny minute settings can make the Harmony function seamlessly or sound like WWIII... LOL! I'll eventually master it but it appears to be less refined than BIAB or I am missing something in the manual. Zaneski seems to be improving his demos on a broad front and I believe he is the premier BIAB authority here at JPF.

Thanks for sharing the BIAB site with me. I recognized so many acquaintances who often posted here and was so pleased to see they are still working hard to grab the brass ring the muse keeps dangling in front of us.

Thanks for listening and the encouragement on the vocal. I began singing much too late in life to ever exhude the confidence needed for real success. If I can just get the gist of the song across, folks with real ears can easily understand where the song needs to be taken if they choose to record it as a cover. Sorry our latest co-writing endeavor does not seem to be attracting the attention it deserves here at JPF but the BIAB site folks were all over it... making me realize it has real potential.

All my best, ----Dave

Hey Martin:

Glad the imagery worked for you. I hope you know your opinion means a great deal to me. After laboring for what seemed like weeks over the other version, this one "just fell in place" and was a memorable recording experience for me. It only took one cut and I was satisfied. (Not that it could not be improved upon.) We both know a guy out west who could "rock the house with it."

Thanks for listening and caring enough to comment.

Dave,

If there's an easy way to do harmonies in BIAB, I haven't found it yet. For me, it's the old-fashioned way. Track by track, hoping I can stay on tune.

As for our joint effort, no need to feel sorry . . . I think we got lots of great feedback here on JPF and 1600 views is nothing to sneeze at, particularly given how slow the board seems lately. It was a pleasure to work on it with you and something I think we can both feel good about.

My best to you, Dave.

Dave,

I listened to this last week, but was runn'n out the door and didn't comment. "But now I'm back, to let you know, you can really shak'm down!" (Used that expression from the old song "Do you love me?" (many moons ago, but I know you'll remember it).

I like the combination jazz feel along with your Willie Nelson-esk vocals--smooth but with a mature edginess like a fine bourbon. I should be writing today, I'm feeling metaphorical..........Hey, I could listen to this often and not get tired or it--no nits from me today. (Classic country lyrics meets southern jazz).

Hi again, Deej:

Two days of rain... and more on the way down here. I'm not too disappointed with our song results... just the seeming loss of so many participants here at JPF. It has been slow and weekends are usually very slow... we all have lives to live, LOL! You certainly took a song, tweaked it here and there, and gave it wings with that vocal of yours. I'm hoping we can collaborate again in the near future.

As always, thanks for all you do to keep our favorite music site afloat. I know Brian appreciates it!

Eddie:

Thanks for your kind words. I really enjoyed your description... especially the part about "mature edginess like a fine Bourbon!" LOL! Ya know, you could make a living writing descriptive propaganda for Album Jackets like they did in the Good Old Days! I used to buy a 33 1/3 album and read those delicious terms while listening. Now that is advertising 101!

Glad you listened and cared enough to comment!

I took a listen to this. I feels like the kind of tune I could get into at a vacation resort. It's a good background music song. As far as a radio hit, it's a flat line - no verse to chorus or bridges to modulate the emotions. It is enjoyable. I can't picture anyone frowning with this tune playing.

Hi Mimmo:

I didn't mean to ignore your comments... as you know, whenever a reply occurs here, the song-post flies back up to the top spot... and I was attempting to let this one slide down to the next page. I do my best to encourage others to post their work and keep things more interesting here. I'm looking forward to your next song and hope the weather up your way has been better than what our Pal, John Schick has been having lately.

Thanks for listening. Always good to hear from you. ----Dave
