The second version of the song and different from the folk version i did with Deej.
The inspiration  for this came about  via a Harry Nilsson album of standards from the 30s/ 40s.Also from Scott Walker.
Mike arranged, produced and sang on this one.
I wrote the lyric( also different) and came by  the new melody.

SONGS FROM THE PARLOUR

V
Wind is howling at my front door
trying hard but  won't get in
 Hallway clock just struck midnight
  and i  can't sleep a wink again
C
So it's songs from the parlour
with her filling up my  mind
Carrying me off to  summer nights
         back to happier times.
       Song from the parlour
         then she left me behind
         Songs from the parlour
          songs for old times

B
      Pour a  glass of whiskey
     smoke another cigarette
      picture her by the fire
     that someone i can't forget
V
This rooms  my refuge from  the world
warm, cosy  on this cold cold night
Might even  drift and sleep tight
         waking  well into daylight
V
Came  here when i was a kid
to think things out on my own
My dad would sometimes come in
son,you spend too much time alone

Chorus

Old age creepeth... and I too do not remember DJ's version, Travis:

Regardless, I enjoyed my listen. I will follow Lane's lead and do some searching. Zee does it again!

Thanks for sharing. ----Dave

Travis (and Mike),

This is a pretty listen . . . wonderfully put together. I’ll confess—my first listen—it was so different from the Travis/Deej version that I wasn’t sure what to make of it. But I’m on my fourth or fifth listen, and I’m digging it more with every spin. So smooth! Really good stuff!

All the best,

Deej

Hi Travis,

I am a newbie over here at JPfolks.

I really like the perfectly smooth vocals and production on this song. Lot's of dynamics in music makes for an enjoyable listen.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the early 50's sound. I enjoyed this, haven't heard this soft pop/jazz sound in a long time. I used to listen some to Michael Frank's back in the early 80's who kind of revived this sound with a little less vintage approach. This one feels like the more original vibe. You can hear Big Band 40's influence yet also a 50's decade influence as well--which would have been the time period before Elvis, Fats Domino, Chuck, Jerry, kind of stole the radio air waves, but the Platters fought back along with some others. I'm not sure my explanation is real accurate, just rambling a bit from memory as a child when I first listened to radio and a few 45's my older sister and mom brought home.

Mike I'm sure enjoys producing so many different genres/vibes--well done Mike. John, the lyrics work quite well with this music vibe--well done.
