I really like this but was disappointed when you didn't have oe more cool verse between the last 2 choruses...
I was spoiled, wanted more.
Good work all the same!

Wonderful mystery lyric and arrangement. Shades of Beatles in the air.

Exceptional write, Mac:

I don't know which I liked most... the history woven through those insightful lyrics... or the melody? I'm leaning toward the lyrical side but the entire package is catchy, clever and a great listen. Thanks for sharing. ----Dave

Hey Mac!

What a great driving beat & rhythm. I really loved the bass clarity with this mix. So warm yet clear. Everything is well balanced. Unique melody, and catchy. I got a little Beatles vibe, kind of like when they were doing some of their last stuff together when they really had a great blend of pop & rock going on together. Nice vocals too Mac--just loved everything about it. I think I remember hearing this from you a couple years back? If I'm recognizing it, another good sign, the melody was imprinted somewhere in my brain!

Great stuff.

Enjoyed it.

Reminds me of The Cream (specifically "I Feel Free") and seems Beatle-esque in spots.
Jack Bruce-ish drive to the bass.

Nice tune.

The vocal and harmony is very Cream like. I hear Beatles and even bits of Tommy (The Who) in the bridge.

Maybe a bit of Neil Young's Cinnamon Girl in the riff.

But in the end it's Mac...

Very smoothly done, your songs and delivery sound effortless.

The lyric to this is fantastic. I've tried to use "murder and crow" in a song too. Could never get it to work. I really love those bells/whistles, variations in the melody, particularly when you sing "you know we never ruled the world."
I had a thought that maybe adding a crow "kaw" at the end as you are fading out would be cool. Or not.. I guess it could sound a bit goofy too.

Good tune!

Mac,

Gosh, I thought I had already commented on this one . . . but let me put it this way: KILLER! I mean really, this is a terrific tune. Clean, great and intriguing lyrics. Slick vocal and harmonies, nice internal rhymes. Love that Beetles sound in the first two lines of the chorus. But even then, itís original and unique. Great stuff!

My very humble regards, sir,

Deej

Hi Mac, a thumbs up and a note I stopped and listened, I enjoyed this, a little different than most songs I bump into here.
nice work...I didn`t think anyone would remember "Cream Lane

I see the merits of keeping this one working.

I'm missing some words, which impair the overall 'getting' of the story. Is it you? Is it me? Volume? Pitch of notes, obedient to musical resolution, abandoning conveyance of word meaning as a priority? Those Rhyme-Words at the ends of Lines are strategic, and often the ones that get dropped in vocalization. I don't know why I'm missing them. I have that problem with dialog in movies too. The crying woman delivering Lines while her face and voice are contorted with emotion, the mumblers, whisperers and stream-speakers, the foreign accents.

I think there may be too many Lines that simply Rhyme, poetic though they are, without sustaining a sense of a Singer-Character conversing simplistically with another Character, the 'We' in THE Hook. "A thousand years of history reflected in your eyes." There's the 'other' Character, 'your'. But the obscurity of relevance of the Line in the overall 'conversation' may lose a listener's attention. The 'other' Character may 'get' it because they're 'in' on the story, but will listeners?

Not getting all the words, all the Lines, I can't judge if they support THE Hook/title, or could be tweaked to do it better. A general advice is to keep the Characters communicating. Don't abandon their communication in favor of poetry, especially obscurity in poetry.

The instrumental interlude seems uneventful and a good place to cut to get the time down from 4:47.

Gary,

Honestly. I've read a few of your comments on others posts and have noticed a common thread in that you cannot hear certain lines or words, so I'll say it might be your hearing sir.

In terms of characters and conversations via lyric.....there is no conversation here, just an observer espousing the long lived crow.

Beyond that, thanks for taking the time to listen.

I heard a live band the other night. I couldn't understand anything they sang, or said between Songs. Then they brought up a special guest who had traveled a hundred miles to be there. He sang, Songs I'd never heard, and I could understand everything he sang.

Here's how much I'm getting, and how much I'm missing. You may be right. It may be me. If no one else has the problem, or the interest to tell you so, you may be ok.

Go----with the lightning in your eyes
Tell the story of this world cracked open
? point... if there was nothing inside.
O---- because our place is on the ground
Your brittle warning cutting down like trees in a forest when there's no one around.
Watching over London from your tower in the sky,
a thousand years of history reflected in your eyes.
You know, We Never Ruled The World.

Why---- would you murder if you must ?
...talkin' to your... but you'll never....like us..??
Why---- ?? down on ? count on??
like it .... all to your kin
when they gather on the roof of original sin.
Watching over London from your tower in the sky,
a thousand years of history reflected in your eyes.
You know, We Never Ruled The World.

Never Ruled The World.

Watching over London from your tower in the sky,
a thousand years of history reflected in your eyes.
You know, We Never Ruled The World.

Watching over London from your tower in the sky,
a thousand years of history reflected in your eyes.
You know, We Never Ruled The World.

Never Ruled The World.
Never Ruled The World.

Just Plain Quotes
"If you are stuck in your musical composing, be unreasonable. Change your environment. If you are stuck in your lyrical efforts, instead of forcing the same old words out, force yourself to do unreasonable things." -Brian Austin Whitney
