So, I am going through a lot of my old posts (made me realize how much I appreciate a lot of you guys) and I came across some from Tampa Stan. A few tears involuntarily escape my eyes as I read one of his comments to one of my posts....

In memory of Tampa Stan, do you have any memorable comments from him on any posts or threads you interacted with him on? If so, please share.

This thread is for Tampa Stan. Miss ya BIG GUY!

A Tampa Stan post to share from him:

"HI Dee Greg!

IF you got lots of Service Time left to serve, AFTER you return Stateside, and REALLY wanna get over to Europe, try THIS: (It worked for ME after I did my Year In Nam!)

I hitchhiked to the Pentagon, located the Honcho responsible for filing Orders for EVABODY (He was an Army Sgt Major, back in the late '60's) and asked for an Assignment Change to Europe. (Army planned on sendin' me to Baltimore..)
I ended up at USAREUR HQ in Heidelberg, Germany--PLUM Job, Beautiful Town. EASY to visit UK, Belgium, France & Switzerland (Where the Wife I met & Married there hailled from.)

It was in the Section that Terrorist Plane levelled...but is probably Rebuilt now. Go there In-Uniform and good luck, Amigo. As the SGM said to me, "You been to War..I'll send you anywhere in the World you wanna go to."

KNOW we still got some Airbase Connections in the UK, too---Go For It, Amigo, You Earned It!

Big Guy-Hug,

I never got a chance to try out his advice. I bet his advice would have worked. When I got back to my base after being deployed to Kuwait, it was business as usual and I got lost in the cracks. But that's a story for another day.

BIG GUY-HUG back at ya Stan!!!

Big Stan he had a Big Heart Stan and his wife stayed with our family

the occasion was back when they were visiting France at least 17

years ago. I picked them up from BAYEUX Railway Station and we went

to our Holiday Home a twenty minute drive away

We spent many days in the Sunshine On our Patio talking about song writing

and music in general, one particular collaboration with Stan is still on my

pitching list This post reminds me to have another go at finishing the music

to a more polished standard

The thing about Stan was he could not really sing properly, but never got nasty when

we often told him he would be better off using a Singer with Stage experience

I sent him a Great Title and he spent some time on it

I demoed the song but looking back it was bit too corny , nevertheless a re write

could easily change that

We could do with a few more like Stan his type of character are a very rare breed these days

R I P My lovely Friend and thanks for the laughs and the company

Stan worked on Town Clock repair when he was stationed in the military and met his Swiss

born wife during his overseas commissions

One of the most important principles of songwriting is to remember that a good song is a partnership of many different components, all working together to produce a satisfying musical experience.

In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.

My favorite Stan experience was seeing his clock shop. (Like a truly mystical and mythical place suited for a film it was). Back in 2003 when I first met Stan face to face he introduced himself in Hollywood at our awards show that year. He was nominated in the Lyric category (I think he finished in the top few, I need to find those results, he might have even won with "The Race" if the timing of that was right. We voted right her in the public eye on the message boards too!). He had these two big heavy boxes he had lugged all the way to Hollywood (the best setting we ever had for the awards at the Highlands, same building where they do the Oscars with a big old view of the Hollywood sign right outside the door of the venue which was on Highland and Hollywood Blvd). Inside were two antique art deco style fans that were breathtaking and in perfect, like new condition and heavy suckers. One he gave to me, and one he gave to Susan Gibson, who won "Song of the Year" at the awards for a song entered before it became a giant hit for the Dixie Chicks, Wide Open Spaces! She had met Stan here on our message boards and they had talked about things and she was nice to him and he honored her with a fan as well (which she also still has, mine is right over there on my Office Desk where it has been since I got home). In his workshop/shop he had a tremendous number of these reconditioned fans, they really should have been in a museum to honor his work on them and their historical breadth and representation of a bygone era. He was having some financial issues a bit later and so I asked if those fans were for sale and that I would love to give all my family members (we have a small family) a fan for Christmas. He made me an amazing deal and he went about hand picking somewhere around a dozen fans for us. He had written out detailed histories of each fan, their importance in history and innovations as well as details on how to properly maintain them (I am not kidding, these were all museum quality pieces dating back to the late 1800's)! My family was blown away and it made for an unforgettable Christmas for us and put a few bucks (what we could afford to pay) in his pocket and preserved those pieces for history in and around our family. My nephew got one from the company who would later create and sell the Erector Set. Those types of facts and info and dates were included with each.

He had been sick for a long time, but no complaining or woe is me from him. Nothing but super cheery, supportive love poured out of him. He would always tell me when he sold his collection to a museum, he was going to make the biggest ever donation to JPF in history. What he didn't realize is that he already had. You can read all about it in the 29,275 post he left us. THAT is a treasure and a life well lived. He had so much more to him than most people ever got to know, he just showed you his cheery side and made you feel good no matter what was going on.

Stan wasn't the only one who left their mark here and it isn't just about post numbers. People here positively changed the lives of countless people who came and went but always got help, support, protection from fraudsters and other cruelness found most places on the net back then. He wouldn't recognize the world now with the nasty social media depravity that has sickened our entire world. But he sure made this corner of the world a much better place by him being here. That's about all you can hope to do!

Stan bought more JPF hats than anybody else. He went through them once a year like "clockwork" There was a certain beauty in that. I had one boxed up to send him as his money was no good to me after I got that gift of providing my family with a lifetime heirloom courtesy of his hard work and passion. I never got to send it to him and it is still in the basement as, by chance, it was the last one we ever had available. I had saved it for him. I saw it yesterday in the same spot it was back then guarding my table downstairs like he once protected our nation in the military.

Hat's off TampaStan! Big Guy Hug!

I live about an hour and a half drive from Tampa. I always meant to visit Stan's shop. I even looked it up on Google Earth. I think it was on Kennedy blvd. I just wanted to drop in and buy an antique fan. Never got to do it before he passed.

Stan was a "class act." Loved by many, liked by all who exchanged stories with him. Then there is my friend, Ben Willis, who does not post nearly as much as I'd like to see. You too, are missed... and thankfully, above ground.

All the best, ----Dave

Thanks Brian and Dave. You guys made my day. I don't post much because of vision problems. I have retinopathy and it's hard to read. Been taking eye injections for the last six months but I don't think I'll regain the vision I've already lost. I don't believe I'll go blind, I think they stopped the internal eye bleeding just in time. Or so it seems. I also see our old friend "Bugsy" here quite often under a different pseudonym or two so I just read when I can and reply to people I know.
