Saw it on showtime. He can play with the stones and rod stewart or he can play with the spice girls, then again he can play with jazz masters like Stanley Clarke.

One of those guys that im not the biggest fan of, but im aware of his genius. A lot of guitar playing is hard work, but hard work only takes you to the moon, talent like Jeff beck takes you anywhere.

I have about 4-5 Becks on vinyl and one with Bogart and Appice.
Crazy technique-not only with the whammy bar but in general.

I think what makes satan so attractive to others is
that he tastes like chocolate...
....and he played real drums

Soooo... LOL...
In regards to my link:
HEY! Did anyone see that? It's not that Clapton's the best singer ever, or Beck is flawless-it's about two professionals exploring a melody; and, (most importantly) enjoying the process....

I never really paid much attention to jb for years, but then once I really listened I realized he was/is the real nigel tufnel........seriously, he's an actual walking legend.

Almost cartoonish (in a great way). Now I'm a big fan.

Id say he is as close to flawless as you can get in a human though.

Yeah his name has been huge for decades, but I think it might be cause he's always associated with other artists, that people tend to overlook him.

Jeff Beck the songwriter....meh, Jeff Beck the guitar player YEHHHH!

People always mention Hendrix, Page, Clapton before Beck, but he might be more skilled than all of them, his tones, his knowledge of music, mastery of the whammy.

Honestly, I feel he is more skilled, and they all came out of the same scene......plus andy summers....the late bloomer.

But yeah, I agree....JB kills.(if you understand the trail blazing).

I think Andy Summers is the most under-rated guy. His two band mates are worshiped on a completely different level than he is.

Beck? As someone above said, he seems more like the dictionary definition of a sideman.. there's his picture.

Andy is a long time favorite of mine, along with jamie west oram........two players I "got" right away.

I emulate their approach and sound all the time........huge influences.

When I was in college in Austin back in 1971, i used to sit around and jamb with a guitar player who was,at least, 5 times as good as me. He was intimidatingly good. He was "i'll never be that good"...good.
In the 60's, he moved to London to try to make it big as a rock guitar player. He very sincerely told me that he was invited to jamb with Jeff Beck and went. And that Jeff Beck was so overwhelmingly better than he was...it caused him call up mum and dad...fly back to the US and enroll in engineering at UT.

I've never seen Jeff Beck play anything that seemed other worldly in skill, such as Cliffs Of Dover by Eric Johnson,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUECcou-34A

but a formula one car idling through a parking is no indication of it's capabilities either. Beck always seemed invested in the sound he was making, rather than showing off.

Well his main thing is that nobody can sound exactly like him. His technique, the sounds he generates from just himself. You could put Jimmy page on stage with Jeff Becks gear, same guitar, same amp, same exact setup, and Beck will do things that Page couldn't replicate.

He can play any style, jazz, blues, fusion, rock, country, rockabiliy, you name it. I think thats one thing that seperates him from others, his ability to play anything.

Somebody like Eddie Van Halen may seem "other-worldy" and to this day, ive never seen any guitarist who did anything as jaw dropping as EV, much more flashy and entertaining, and alot of people dont consider EV when they mention greats, I guess cause hes not a blues player, and played in a band known for partying and not meaningful music.

That sad, Beck is probably the better musician than EV.

But even though your friend change his career, he probably shouldnt have. Ive said it before and ill say it again, music is not a competition. Im not going to outplay, outsing, out produce, out write, out perform, outdance anybody. Neither will 99% of people out there.

Imagine the Ramones felt that way, we'd never have.... one of my favorite songs of all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loFLdYM79gY

The guy I jammed with wanted to make it big and said he got to London (from Oklahoma) and was taken aback by the level of competition that there was to find a lead guitarist spot in a band with big time prospects. And his moment with Beck put an end to it. Or so he told me.
I agree about Van Halen. He's my personal favorite rock guitarist. Always considered VH as a turbocharged version of ZZ TOP, who is another favorite.

Prince told Billy Gibbons of ZZ, that he was the best guitarist since Hendrix. High praise, and Billy Gibbons was floored when he heard Prince play, he didnt even know he played.
