Another collab with Deej,Dave Lekich. https://www.soundclick.com/bands3/?bandID=1337933Songs from the Parlour (V) The wind is howling at my door trying hard but it won't get in. The hallway clock struck midnight and I can’t sleep at all again. (C) Because these songs from the parlour that keep filling up my mind, carrying me off to the nights of summer back to happier times. Yes, it’s songs from the parlour, the ones she’s left behind— Songs from the parlour, songs for old times. (V) This room is my refuge from the cold and lonely nights. If I could shake her memory I just might get some sleep tonight. (B) So I pour a glass of whiskey and smoke another cigarette I keep her picture by the fire, but it’s her voice I can’t forget. (C) But these songs from the parlour keep filling up my mind, carrying me off to the nights of summer back to happier times. Yes, it’s songs from the parlour,

Really pretty.
The lyrics and music, all of it was lovely.
DJ...This melody is perfect for the timbre and inflections in your vocals. Reminded me of Cat Stevens somewhat.
This should get some airplay also.
Very very nice.

Not sure whether the words "parlour" and "smoking a cigarette" are words for today or have a romantic feel but the whole song fits in to old time folk so it sounds good to us old 'uns. Nice one.

I like everything about this, except the title/hook. The use of an almost Victorian word that people simply don't use any more seems to put an unnecessary distance between the song and the listener. I assume that she used to sit and play the piano and sing? Could you put her somewhere other than the parlour? Apart from anything else, you will run into British/American spelling issues right there in the title I agree with all of Martin's positive comments.

Hi Vic I realised that the theme would be thought of as dated somewhat ie parlour /cigarettes it's true. However it's not aimed at the charts, contemporary radio etc it was written to interest the publisher who has briefs for 50s/ 60s or even 70s media placings. The song has been accepted by Aardvark today. The songs next stage is in the air Cheers John

Hi Gavin Thanks for your comments and interest in the song Basically it's the same answer as i gave Vic. It is outdated but that's the hook, hopefully! Good to know you liked it though! Regards Travis

My "room" is also my refuge down here in "West Mayberry" 'cause Winter can't seem to make up it's Cotton Pickin' mind! It's a "keeper" guys... probably wouldn't get a "cut in Twang-Town" these days... but it sure reminds me of a world I once lived-in... and enjoyed to the max. Love that vocal, Deej. Perfection!
Thanks, Guys... ----Dave

Martin,
Thanks much for the listen and supportive comments. I was a little leery as to whether my vocal hit here--this type of song is both challenging and new territory for me--so I'm glad it seemed to work. If I'm honest in assessing my own performance here, I'm not thrilled with the vocal personally--I mean, it's OK I guess, but it's not my strength and I think others (more crooner types) could do it better. But I'm pleased you enjoyed it whatever my reservations.
My best regards to you
Deej

Vic and Gavin,Thanks so much for the listen. When I first saw the lyrics to this one, I shared the same reservation, particularly regarding "parlour". And Gavin, I'm chuckling--even now, the auto-correct is making me re-type "parlour" after changing it to "parlor". Do you know how many times I've had to do that? Sorry, Travis, my friend--but you Brits need to learn to spell!!! All kidding aside, I did pause at the word . . . but as I played with Travis's lyrics, the words fit well into an old folk type melody, and that's where I went with it, for better or worse. So I appreciate the comment--and just hope the song as a whole carries nonetheless. As Travis noted, it's nothing that will wow commercially--and it's not really the intent. But hope it's worth the listen, and it seems like it was. So that's makes the effort all worthwhile. My thanks and kindest regards to you both, Deej

Mr. Rice, It's good to see you back on the board after your brief hiatus. Thanks for stopping in. Here in SF it's not so much the cold, but the rain that won't quite let up--but then again, we can use the rain in California, so I shouldn't complain . . . I shouldn't, but I still will. Really appreciate your support on this tune. I agree that no one will be banging on our door to cut this tune, but Travis's lyric once again led me to a place I likely wouldn't have gone on my own . . . so, whatever its flaws and potential for commercial success, it was a lot of fun to put together. And Travis is a pleasure to work with. Glad you enjoyed it! My kind regards, Deej

Congratulations, you two:
Airplay is always good... now to find a way to "monetize it"... Thanks for that good news. Let's hope it causes a heavy demand, creates instant wealth and maybe I can "hit you guys up" for a big loan! LOL!
Seriously, I am proud of you both. ----Dave

thanks so much Travis for taking time to put this up...damn! I be proud of either of the renditions. [ hope thats the right word to use....lol] so much difference in artists, and style of music. To me I think it would add much more audience, a wider range of listeners. [know what I mean?]
thanks again Travis.....Lane
