Wow the show gets worse and worse. Tribute to Dolly was ok, Tribute to Diana Ross and Arthetha ok too. Two puzzling things stand out. Post Malone. Apparently a very famous rapper, i hadnt really heard of him although the name does ring a bell. Whats astonishing is this guy has over 1 BILLION streams on spotify. Led Zeppelin Stairway is in the millions, but his Rock Star is in the billions. I dont get it. Here is the tune being streamed so much https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=louoxiUMBc0Then there was a Drake moment as well. He received a grammy and he said something that I agreed with. "We play in an opinionated game, it aint like its The NBA where your judged by your points scored etc" I agreed with him, and I feel that way too, there is no "best" in music, its all about somebody being moved by YOURS. But then he ruined it by saying "What I want people to know is it dont matter what awards you get, as long as people are coming to your shows and spending their hard money to see you" you dont need a grammy" He blew it. Ahhh dude, it aint about making money either. So you dont think you should be judged by people with various opinions of music, but you do think its ok to be judged by how much you sell? So your message to other musicians is if u dont make money or sell out, then quit. On the right track, but you blew it chief....

Just going by your quote, but I don't see the emphasis on money. He may have been saying entertainers should feel blessed that people WANT to come and see them; that's the greatest reward....

No, thats not what he said. WHat he said was if people are paying their hard earned money..... If everybody here went by that, none of us would ever write a song again. None of us have anybody spending their hard earned money. Speech "I want to take this opportunity while I'm up here to just talk to all the kids that are watching this, aspiring to do music," Drake said. "All my peers that make music from their heart that do things pure and tell the truth, I wanna let you know we're playing in an opinion-based sport not a factual-based sport. So it's not the NBA where at the end of the year you're holding a trophy because you made the right decisions or won the games." Related: Grammy winners 2019: Here's the full list of who won He also seemed to allude to the Recording Academy's debatable track record with hip hop and artists of color. "This is a business where sometimes it's up to a bunch of people who might not understand what a mixed race kid from Canada has to say or a fly Spanish girl from New York or anybody else, or a brother from Houston right there, my brother Travis [Scott]. But my point is you've already won if you have people singing your songs word for word, if you're a hero in your hometown. Look, if there's people who have regular jobs who are coming out in the rain, in the snow, spending their hard earned money to buy tickets to come to your shows, you don't need this right here. I promise you, you already won." The broadcast cut to commercial before Drake finished speaking.

Is that not similar? Isn't he saying it's not like admission is free, people are paying to see us and that's an honour. I guess we're seeing it a different way.... -Mike

FD: I listened to a part of that song you linked to, it just shows how far this world's morals has decayed, the foul language turned me off but apparently it is lapped up by the public. Does radio actually play this stuff over the public airways. One time radio would lose their license for a lot less than that.

Ha! You know Kasey Musgraves is a JPF member who also posted here for years and was a nominees in our awards all the way back in 2004! (possibly later years too, but I know 2004 for sure).
Talent is talent. She had it then and now she's on top. So it really CAN happen to anyone, including people here though people seem to think that's a crazy thought. Chris Young used to post here too and came out to events and became gigantic, but in his case he still thanks us for our help. I've lost touch with Kasey. Her Momager used to post promos of her on here up until a few years back.
Small world!

It's about exposure, more than anything else

Im not a rap snob, and im not going to say post malone doesnt have any talent. I was actually surprised by an acoustic bit he did right before red hot chile peppers joined him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2r8luTFKE4, i didnt even think he had that much talent... It's just, while not just anybody can do what hes doing, it's far removed from masterpiece theatre. And the lyrics are in that zone where thats whats popular at the moment. And my only theory is that its all free. I dont believe billions of people would buy this record, but will stream it.
