I followed up my piece about an aging object of a classic early rock 'n roll song with one about one who could be an aging psychic reader.
MARY, QUEEN OF CARDS
c2018 Brian Beecher
Mary, you’re known as the queen or cards One who can fix broken hearts And lead one out of the rain
When one’s feelings are intensified And once triggered can take some time You’ll read and then things calm down
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed Rush of emotion washes over But you know how to ride that wave For to make us seem bolder
Let go of any defensiveness And use your intuition to sense The deeper issue that is now at hand Your cards are telling us, yes we can, Mary
People say the leave you Armed with a new understanding Of what you really need and why You can begin to heal old wounds
If you’re in the mood for fun Now’s the time to find a new companion I can show you the way But the choice is up to you
Mary, I need you to read for me Following your passion feels good Will you tell me do the things you love That fill you with more vitality Do you believe I could
People say they leave you Armed with a new understanding Of what you really need and why You can begin to heal old wounds
If you’re in the mood for fun Now’s the time to find a new companion I can show you the way But the choice is up to you
Mary, will I be back in forward motion Will I be back with the new loved one I met last December
Or will I undergo A major shift in consciousness Or will I be blocked from success In both love and life
Will I let go of defensiveness And use my intuition to sense The deeper issue that is now at hand Hope the cards tell me that I can Please tell me, Mary

Title got my attention cause of Springsteen's Queen of Arkansas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEkHvTcAEooI still think your lyrics read more like pshyco-analysis than poetry. But I guess that's your style. Keep writing!

That is though pretty much what psychic readers are all about even though they don't hold professional psycho-analysis titles. It is usually a cheaper form of that even though there are a few fakes out there. But, hey, you will find them in any field, such as car mechanics who actually make the car run worse.

I really like the title. Mary Queen of Cards. similar to Mary Queen of Scotts. Both a story and a song are sprouting in my head because of it.
I also like the reference to coming in out of the rain. Both as providing shelter to the fragile and as a reason to go into a shop that would have otherwise been bypassed.

My song idea hasn't panned out, but I did post a story, trajectory, in the creative writing forum here. It came from my thinking about what the fortune teller would be like and what she might be able to predict, and what she might do with a prediction. it went in a completely different direction but started with an idea from these lyrics..

I'll have to go look for that one. It is really a judgment call as to how good or not so good a particular reader could be. In fact I am working with one right now concerning somebody who has been an on-again, off-again part of my life for the past dozen or so years. Every time I go to see her, even if we don't do anything more than have ice cream, she expects a monetary allowance and drags me to some stores to get things such as chicken for a family get-together and expects me to pay for it. This reader is saying that the woman is pretty much a lost cause even though she is now going through one of these 12-step programs. Not for alcohol though, as she hardly ever drinks.
