Hmm.. a shutdown of Government. Jeez, got my hopes up for a minute. What’s not effected: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, US Postal Service, Veterans hospitals and benefits, Food stamps, the military, The Mueller investigation, Border patrol, Air traffic control and TSA, the federal judiciary, and last but not least: Washington, DC (Members of Congress are still collecting paychecks during the government shutdown while lower-wage federal workers will go without pay).

...and the beat goes on, John. LOL! I wish such lack of action would immediately "freeze" the pay of Senators and Congresspersons until all the squabbling and pocket stuffing is settled... and they need to stop kicking cans, establish a yearly balanced budget... and stop all this grandstanding. If only I were King!

Well Shucks,
At the risk of getting into Politicks here it would appear all the illegals in the country, Reportedly around 22 million and all the illegals trying to breech the Borders are more important to the Liberals than the U.S. Taxpayer who is paying for all the illegal aliens living expenses. No one tells you that. You tired yet of the U.S. Taxpayer being the Welfare Fund for the rest of the world?
That's what's happening folks! Aw yes, the best laid plans of Mice and men!

Hi Ray:

I saw a Preacher on TV expounding on the rudeness of a Congressman to the Secretary of Homeland Security the other day. He said, "Jerusalem has a wall... and God meant for it to be there!" I've seen that ancient wall and though I doubt it would withstand modern warfare, it is a sight to behold from the Mount of Olives.

My thinking is that the President needs to have a couple of fireside chats... or even better, ask Mike Pence to do it for him... and explain the plan in sufficient detail... how the "wall" will only be barriers at points where it is needed. The rest will be patrolled and defended as need be.

I was extremely disappointed at our "Supreme Court" yesterday, deciding we must allow any damn invader/illegal border crosser to claim asylum. While John Q. Public... the weary tax-payer. foots the bill to feed and shelter them, provide a slick talking lawyer and day care for their kids being dragged along through the length of Mexico... from God knows where.

If this trend continues, we will cease to be a nation in ten years. Flat broke, over-run by foreigners and afraid to leave our neighborhoods and houses. The Government or the Extreme Court will have taken away our Guns by then!

I'm not wishing Judge "Darth Vader" Ginsburg any bad luck... but I sure hope she retires soon. Very soon!

Sad! ----Dave

It's unfortunate governments represent corporations instead of people....
But what's most unfortunate is they've managed to pit people against each other. (rather than uniting a people in a common goal)
Furthermore, these very same people are content to endlessly argue AGAINST EACH OTHER while the Government continues status quo, doing business for business...

Bring back the $300.00 toilet seat, the bridge to nowhere, drug/chemical testing on unaware citizens....

Fits with what is going on all over the world. The most powerful countries in the world, USA and Russia is virtually run by gangsters. Meanwhile democracy is temporarily suspended, the US Government included. I wonder if the people can ever win politics back. Do we live in a romantic comedy or a tragic drama?

It's certainly an interesting time to be living in - riots all over the EU and around the world. Yellow jackets are making the pink ladies irrelevant. Oddly it seems as thought Black Peet got a pass this year.
Anyone that lived through the 60's will be well prepared for the upcoming year or two.Gawd I love people.

Yes Sue, but a little different with the Interbrednet (as my bro calls it). It's developing beyond our control.

People should stop labeling other folks as if they were sports teams. Not all "liberals" have the same view of illegal immigration (and none have the one you describe). In the same way, by no means all conservatives are dumb and heartless. Facts, however, are facts, and it's very easy to prove the net economic gain from even illegal immigration, not least all those people with fake social security cards that are subsidizing Ray's retirement. It runs into many billions of dollars. I'm not defending illegal immigration, just piercing that particular balloon full of hot air.

Well Suh,
If the illegals are so great why haven't the people passed an immigration bill? 3 Times in the last 12 plus years they tried to pass an immigration bill, 3 times it went down in flames. Nobody wants them here. And they ARE living off the U.S. Taxpayer! Not to mention most of the people in many other countries get foreign aid of which the U.S. Taxpayer pays.

Some people want to invoke Socalism here. They had socalisim in the old Soviet Union. It worked so well the Soviet Union no longer exists. They tried it in Greece, and Venezuela, a smashing success!

Sorry "Bleep" when the Pilgrims came to the New World they didn't have a great big wonderful economy to latch onto. They were the economy. So, "Bleep" they worked and worked and worked and now we have possibly the most successful country in History and everybody wants to come here. Sorry the "Wetbacks" can go back to their own country and make it better. They are a bunch of lazy liars that use any excuse to get in the country.

You want socalisim here? Today you can take a grocery list in any grocery store in any large, medium, or small city and get anything you want, practically any day of the week. And if you can't get it from one supplier you can probably get it from 2 more.
That is an example of Capitalisim, or more to the point, Free Enterprise.

There were shortages everywhere in the Old Soviet Union. Some plan, Eh? We do have a Constitution. We do have an immigration law. Savvy? The word of the day is deport! We already have enough people on welfare. It is disgusting beyond measure.

Yes, it would be disgusting if it was true. The economic argument just doesn’t stand up. You can make other arguments such as overpopulation, difficulties of assimilation, discomfort based on fear of change, but not economics. And all this has nothing to do with the failures of idiotically socialist economies. Once again, you can’t divide us into two teams. No “liberals” I know are admirers of the Soviet or Venezuelan model, and it has nothing to do with the immigration issue. It is possible to rant about one Fox News talking point without invoking them all.

Well,
If the economic argument doesn't hold up why do we have nearly a 22 Trillion Dollar Federal debt? If the economics were working so well we would have no Federal Debt to speak of. The 22 Trillion Dollar Federal debt is a glaring failure of the Liberals.

But let me guess "Bleep" You are probably not a U.S. citizen. I believe you said you were from Scotland. If so I recommend you get your affairs in order as quickly as possible and depart. It is much better to depart on your own terms than be rounded up uncermoniously and deported. Because sooner or later you will to be deported. And don't let the Immigration Law fall on you on the way out!

I've heard the term "wetbacks" before. Which people does this refer to? We seem to have nicknames on people from different parts of the world that are far from flattering.

It's an extremely derogatory term which refers to Mexican people, unlike Roy who might be referred to as a "Setback"....

Well "Bleep"
Those Cold Hard Facts are hard to refute aren't they? President Eisenhower put a program in place called Operation Wetback. Not sure of all the facts but it removed a lot of Mexicans from the U.S. The term Wetback refers to Mexicans who swam the Rio Grand to get into the U.S. hence the term "Wetback".

The origin is meaningless. The term is offensive....which I'm sure you're quite aware of....

Ray, you need to be educated about this.
I know that you have some pretty extreme political views, but I don't get into it with you about them because I know you from around here. But this is pretty extreme, even for you.
It's not *just* political correctness run amok to call you out on this. It's a kin to calling a black person a n****.
Seriously offensive and the kind of language that would get you kicked off of most forums.
Would you call me a k*** now that you know that I'm Jewish?

Sorry guys but Ray is right about the name - It was in fact called Operation Wetback. I know it's great fun to revise history to protect our delicate selves, but moreover it was with the support of the Mexican government.
I mean we could say Hitler killed people as a part of WW2 so that it included the Holocaust and not offend anyone with Nazi preferences. We could give out a Peace prize to someone responsible for the deaths and scattering of millions.
Fact is that a lot of things are now considered offensive that weren't in the past. And I have no doubt what you all say now will have things that will be considered offensive in the future. That being said the fact still remains that Ray was right in the name of the operation.
BTW Gavin: An argument could be made that the Illegal immigrants are taking away job opportunities from poor people born here. By supporting open borders you are in effect promoting the continuation of blacks being relegated to the ghettos for another generation. Is that what you are saying is a good thing?

Sue; no one's disputing the origin. It's not relevant. The term is offensive to-day and shouldn't be used....

I disagree - It was an actual name. But if you want to change history just because something offends you feel free - What else in history never happened because your sensibilities are offended?

Uh, Well,
The term wetback is in the Dictionary. The Federal Government refers to all illegals in the country as Illegal Aliens. So if that fries your ass I am sorry! I didn't invent the terms. The illegals don't respect our Constitution. The illegals don't respect our Immigration law. The illegals don't respect the American people. When they cross the Border without authorization, or come by some other means that is probably for a limited time and don't leave they are in violation of Immigration Law. There are at least a million new citizens a year that came the right way by going thru the process to become a citizen of the U.S.
Gee, I don't know what the slang word is for Jewish people. I don't care. When I was stationed in the east I heard all or most of the slang words of the immigrants living in the projects in New York. Yes, like it or not I have been around getting my "Education" in the real world. Oh. by the way, my views are not extreme, and I don't give people hell, I just tell them the truth, they think it's hell!

I don't know how else I can put this Sue: I'm not disagreeing about the origin. I don't want to change history. Using the word to-day is offensive.

Ray is right about the name of the operation. Sue is right about it being done with the cooperation of the Mexican government (I had to look that up). 9ne is right about it being a disrespectful term today.

Sue, why would you think I'm supporting open borders? All I said was that the purely economic argument doesn't stand up, even taking into account the valid points you make. A lot of people far smarter than me have done the studies on this. There are lots of costs, including welfare payments, the cost of educating children, etc. Most of those who have studied this come down on the side of the economic benefits outweighing the costs. The Social Security Administration, for instance, is quite open about the $13 billion contributed to the fund by illegals who will never see a dime back from it. All I am saying is that any problem is better addressed in the possession of the facts, rather than purely on a knee-jerk reaction.

Can people please stop assuming the views and attitudes of others? I just wanted to present a dry academic fact about the economic cost of immigration. As a result I have been called a socialist, a fan of catastrophic Venezuelan economics, a supporter of open borders and more. None of those are true. It seems that to some being a supporter of facts and reason makes one some kind of rabid lefty. I have known some real rabid lefties in my time and they were no more fans of these values than their right wing equivalents.

The fact is we all find certain things offensive Remember what Voltaire said about speech - not what Mao did about it.
Gavin: Mine was more of a rhetorical question.
The thing we always have to remember when talking about government studies is they get the answer the guy paying the bill wants to hear.
I had a friend that did cancer research and for one study it showed a large portion of smokers would never get lung cancer ...... She tossed it away altered the data so that it conformed to what the government wanted to hear...... Every university professional knows about the grant monies game ....... It's an open joke

Okay... enough already.

Long time members are quitting over this post. I actually agree with both sides in this argument on these facts:

1. That term did come from an actual operation jointly done with the US and Mexican government.
2. It is now considered offensive.
3. Illegal immigration is a problem which has clearly been identified by BOTH parties over and over and only since the current administration have the Democrats become against curtailing it. Obama, Clinton and all the Dem leaders are on video say over and over that they need to build a barrier and increase security to stop illegal immigration. Both parties have taken this stance for decades in full-throated proclamations. And here's the ACTUAL truth: BOTH PARTIES have allowed it to continue unabated including the current administration. This is because this is NOT a left/right issue, it is an Elitist versus The Rest of Us issue. Elitists use immigrants, legal or otherwise, to drive down wages for the working class poor (of ALL races) in the USA. They particularly abuse illegal immigrants because they don't have to offer them any of the protections that citizens must receive in terms of work safety and minimum wages and benefits. By overwhelming the systems, they further enslave the middle working class with ever higher taxes to support not only the immigrants (legal and otherwise) but also the displaced working class poor (of ALL races) who can't get work at all. This is ALL a game folks. It is played by the elites of BOTH PARTIES and no matter the rhetoric, it continues, unabated, and has for half a century.

STOP FIGHTING WITH EACH OTHER! You are ALL being played by the elites. It is TRUE that history is being erased and replaced but it isn't what it appears to be on face value. It's actually much worse. The real people in POWER are simply setting one side against the other to rip each other apart so together we don't point our attention at the corruption and criminality of the ELITES who claim to be left/right but who actually are just playing roles in this orchestrated destruction of the Western Societies.

So even though much of what has been said is accurate, it is also needlessly divisive and that is ALL BY DESIGN. We will not fall for it here. I have too many friends across the entire imaginable political spectrum who have turned their friendships upside down and ripped their families apart in service to the Left/Right LIARS! There isn't a hairs difference between the two parties over the long haul (i.e. since WWII). They all get us in wars, they all waste our money, they all divide us and they all rip us off in every way imaginable and many more none of us COULD imagine before it was exposed.

Consider this one little factor: BOTH PARTIES allowed themselves the legal right to insider trade. Think about that. BOTH SIDES did it in secret before it slipped out after decades. That is one of the many ways BOTH sides have played us and made 100's of millions off of fixing our stock market and investments and retirement packages, most of which can and will NEVER be honored because they've spent (stolen) all of the money. BOTH PARTIES DID THIS. And when the insider trading was revealed, they promised to undo it... they passed a "law" to take that ability away. After a year of sifting through all the legal speak, people discovered that they had LIED again and they STILL TO THIS DAY can legally insider trade. BOTH THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT WORK TOGETHER TO ROB AND SCREW US ALL OVER! Stop hating your friends, neighbors and families. WE ARE BEING PLAYED!

Enough already. PLEASE WAKE UP!
