An infectious tune . . . just makes you want to keep listening. Nice harmonies and is that an organ you have beneath the instrumentation in spots? Nice sound and depth. And the refrain "Baby wants a beamer"--very much in ear worm territory. As I was listening through, there was part of me looking for a change in melody or some new hook . . . but actually, the more I listened, the more it worked perfectly. I wouldn't change a thing. BTW, is that you on the rhythm guitar? It's the bones of this tune and well done.

From a production standpoint, my only comment (from an amateur, mind you) is that the part of the "Short Break" with just the sticks seems a bit too bare, but that's nitpicking. It works, but something for you to think about for what little it's worth.

Well, well done! Listened to it a few times, will listen again.

All the best,

Morning, Deej:

Thanks for taking time to listen... and I believe you may have "the best ears" at JPF. I'm thrilled that you "listened again"... a sure sign that the song has potential... (for failure or possibly success, LOL!) and this was my third "cut" of the "song" (if I may be so bold) with a slight re-write of the story line to improve clarity. I want the listener to decide for himself/herself the undertone and logic... about what "Baby had on her mind."

I've never written a perfect song and can always find something I did (or failed to do) that could not be improved upon. The short break with sticks is a bit bare. I was in a hurry to get this thing to a listenable state and decided against a key change after the middle break. (Old pipes don't always cooperate these days.)

After I finish playing chess downtown this morning, I'll do my best to remember to send you a PM and explain my "trade secrets" so as not to create further competition here among our peers.

Again, thanks for listening and for the insightful critique. You will be forever enshrined in my West Mayberry Music Hall of Fame.

All the best, ----Dave

Hey Dave,

What a "cute" song! I don't mean "cute" to sound condescending, because this is a song where the lyrics are just so fun. The phonetics of the title phrase is one of those that will stick with you forever--of course the youngsters may not know what a "Beamer" is, but they'd google it for sure! I liked the vibe you chose as well, because this music and vocals "feels" serious, yet the story has a dry humorous melodramatic side that both draws you in with compassion, but also makes you smile with the melodrama--I'm I making sense?

From a production standpoint, just a sug, as i have no nits, but perhaps a little icing for your cake--I might like to hear some subtle, almost more distant "fender type guitar licks and answers" throughout the song. I'd love to hear what Colin Ward would do with a lead guitar track, he's so great at feeling the rhythm with his licks to both compliment the vocalist and music. I might not begin harmony immediately vs 1 which IMO would "empower" the building effect which this song naturally has lyrically and musically--just food for thought.

This was really enjoyable Dave--good stuff here!

Definately an ear worm tune Dave as our other Dave commented.
Two crackers in a row from you, this is good Welsh friend.
Now for the hat trick!( is this just a UK term?)

Hi Eddie:

Thanks for listening and your ideas for improvement. If you can twist Colin's arm... be my guest. Wish I had his talent. There must be a dozen great ways to improve this song but I had to get-R-done ASAP. Too many projects going on here in West Mayberry!

Eventually, I'll re-cut it but for now, it is what it is!

All the best, ----Dave

I've been walking around humming... "She's a Gypsy.... He's a Rover..." and the more I think about it... the more I think you've struck gold! If "Beamer" is an "ear-worm" and it captures some air-play... I'll be delighted.

Thanks for listening, Pal. ----Dave

Hey, Martin:

Glad you had time to listen. Hope your "Book" is propelling itself along nicely. "Beamer" was an enjoyable write and I actually had fun putting it together.

Very cool, Dave. I think this is the first one of yours I've heard where you are the performer. Love the story and vibe. Agree that some guitar licks would be cool. It had a bit of a southwestern feel to me so I'm hearing some lead guitar with a ton of reverb.

Thanks for listening, Scott:

You are on the same "wave length" as previous listeners. When I get the inspiration and energy required for an old geezer like me, I'll see if I can "throw" some good guitar licks into the mix... and experiment a little with various reverb approaches. Thanks for being so kind as to mention my name and "performer" in the same sentence. I try but usually fail miserably with my vocals. (My phrasing leaves a great deal to be desired.)

All the best, ----Dave

I thought the tune was well done all the way around, and the lyrics are strong.

I thought the vocal delivery was solid and the production quite good. It had a very authentic sound for the genre.

I have no major nits but I thought perhaps the tempo could come up just a wee bit.

Nicely done!

If it has strings I will find a way to play it!

Thanks for listening and commenting, TC:

I'll do some experimenting with the tempo as you suggested. Fortunately, I "saved" all the song "setup settings" and can dial up the beat incrementally to see if I can discover what triggered your response. Sometimes, we tend to be too close to what we are doing to notice the "little things." I appreciate your thoughts. ----Dave

I love the mood of the tune, Dave.
Not so keen on the sudden stops or the transition between verses that seem like they've been cut to soon.
I agree with Eddie about the harmonics on the vocal.

Overall a good one I think.

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Hi Vic:

As always, your critique is "spot on." It was, indeed, cut and shared too soon. This type of song is not usually the sort of stuff that comes out of my "wheel-house" and I was eager to share it with friends, family and my one fan! LOL! Thanks for taking time to listen and for your constant honesty and friendship. ----Dave
