I Believe in Love ©2018 Ricki Bellos/Robert George BMI

When the far horizon
Grows dim with blinding lies
I remind my spirit
Soon the sun will rise

There's something I trust even more
Than the coming of the dawn

In my darkest hour
I know loveís the greatest power
Heaven could conceive of
When injustice surrounds me
And my doubts are all around me
Thatís when I believe in love

When the chill of cruelty
Leaves me cold and numb
I assure my spirit
someday Spring will come

Thereís more than seasons turning
That my soul relies upon

In my darkest hour
I know loveís the greatest power
Heaven could conceive of
When injustice surrounds me
And my doubts are all around me
Thatís when I believe in love

Time may crumble all my endeavors
yet one thing will endure forever

In my darkest hour
I know loveís the greatest power
Heaven could conceive of
When injustice surrounds me
And my doubts are all around me
I believe in love
I believe in love
Thatís when I believe in love

Hi Guys:

Thanks for breaking up the monotony that seems to have settled-in here at JPF lately. This is a lovely song with a message more powerful than most folks realize. I know it's a co-write but it's still unclear to me... who did the melody... were the lyrics shared between the two of you before sending it to Mike? Then there is the "issue" of the lyric (as posted) not matching exactly the phrasing of each line as sung by Mike.

I'm not bringing this up to be snide or snarky. I want all of us to achieve perfection as much as humanly possible. I really enjoyed hearing your song and thought Mike hit another "home run" with it... as he always does. Co-writing is almost always difficult because of the "logistics" involved. If a "scout" for a major label happened to be listening in... and comparing the lyric as the song progressed... it could possibly impact your odds of monetary success. For the record, I think the performance and backing are strong enough to overcome these minor differences... but please take time to "align" everything before posting. Forgive me if I sound like an "Old Maid Schoolmarm!"

Best wishes for success and congratulations to all three of you. It is a wonderful song.

----Dave

Thanks Dave. I think I posted an earlier draft of the lyric by mistake.

Don't feel bad about pointing that out, Dave. I may never have noticed it otherwise. smile

Thanks for posting this, Rob. Still loving these 3-ways! Don't worry, I wouldn't have let it go on for too much longer. smile

Thanks for letting us know you like it, Dave. Rob wrote the lyrics, I wrote the music and Mike pulled it all together with his production and vocals. We have a great team.

Couch, Ricki and Mike,

This hits on all cylinders--good lyrics, nice melody and great production. To my ear, the melody on the third line of the chorus didn't quite sit right with me on the first or second listen--kind of made me think it was slowing down or going in another direction--but smoother on subsequent listens. So don't know what to make of that first impression, but offering up the comment for what little it may be worth. Overall, a good tune, really easy on the ears. Nice job!

My best to each of you,

Deej

The melody goes nicely with the lyrics.

For me though, there is a little too much production for this gentle song. Too much going on at the same time, instrument wise.
Maybe just my opinion though.

Thanks everyone esp. with regards the melody. It really needed to soar to succeed and it does.

I intended it to be anthemic and I hope the production reflects that. If others would have preferred it more subdued,
I wouldn't argue with that.

Sounds a bit like Crosby, Stills and Nash, probably one that Nash would write.

I thought the chorus could use more actually, drums, electric guitar to build it up.

One nit to my ear is the chorus takes a bit long to finish, maybe a bit too many lines, but maybe that's just how i was looking for it to go.

Enjoyed.

Thanks for listening, Deej. Not sure what to tell you about the melody...I personally like it when a melody takes me someplace unexpected, but then of course I want it to take me back to my comfort zone. Hopefully, this one does that for the listener. Glad you liked it overall.

Thanks Vic. While the production could have gone countless different ways, this was our choice and we're pleased with the results. Hope you enjoyed your listen regardless.

Hi Dave,

I am just now seeing this thread and thought I would address the co-write thing. As Ricki can attest, I did nothing more with her music than orchestrate and sing her melody. I have not actually co-written any recent songs with Rob or Ricki..or anyone for that matter, being wrapped up in making demos for clients/friends.

Rob was simply being generous to offer me that songwriter credit, as do many of my clients. But the mistake I made with Rob was that I did not immediately tell him "no! you can't do that as I have an ethical obligation to maintain a consistent way of doing things with my clients" like I did my other clients, but let him proceed. and did not consider the bad ethical decision that was. I didn't think to explain to Rob why I must turn down his songwriter credit, not until I actually noticed he had given me that credit, here. There was no real "composing" done by me. But for all practical appearances, I am accepting money for collabs, and I can tell you honestly..I don't do that, and never have and never will. I just probably won't do many until I am more financially solvent.

Anyway, I wanted to clear that up. I made the mistake of letting a problem sit there, and then I forgot about it, while in the back of my mind, I had to know that at some point I would have to deal with it..and I guess now is that time..

Mike
