A bit of an experiment starting with a bass line and building up from that. I know the intro is too long for commercial purposes, but since this is not a commercial track I can give it time to develop.

Light Up The Night

Through blind eyes
Brimming at my finger tips
I see the shining light
Burning on your ruby lips

To feel your touch,
Forever just out of my reach
Quench me fill my cup
Terrible impotence unleashed

Burn me, burn me
Fill me with your light
Light up, light up the night

Fill my arms
Pretending I can be the one to
Ease your aching heart
Melting in the shining sun

Words drift away
Spinning into emptiness
Everlasting praise
Conjured up in the darkness

Burn me, burn me
Fill me with your light
Light up, light up the night

(break)

Burn me, burn me
Fill me with your light
Light up, light up the night

Owen,

Nice instrumental to start things off—I don’t think the intro is too long at all, even for commercial purposes—and the song has a good vibe thereafter. Like the melody and chord progression in that chorus. Good tune!

I think, for my tastes, there’s maybe a bit too much high hat in spots on those drums, but take that with a huge grain of salt—I just think it’s a personal aversion I have to symbols, and partly why I can never get comfortable with the drum work in my own songs. But I offer up the observation for what it is or isn’t worth.

BTW, like the shot of the armadillo! smile

All the best,

Deej

Thanks for the input Deej! I've gone back to have another listen to the percussion. I don't think it's too high in the mix, so it's likely how often the crash or bell is being used that's bothering you. I'm feeling ok about it at the moment, but always ready to listen to other views. smile Yeah, the armadillo has been with me for a long time. We are old friends now!

Morning, Owen:

It isn't legal to "import Armadillos" to Oz... LOL! (But I'll be happy to send you a couple of the little buggers from my front yard... devouring insects while uprooting my plants and flowers.)

Like Calvin, I thought the "groove or vibe" of the song was nice. The song has plenty of potential and I wish you the best of luck with it as you continue to seek the "sweet spot" here and there. Keep at it, my friend... you'll be glad you did. ----Dave

Thanks guys! Appreciate the encouragement smile

@Dave. It certainly would be illegal to import them! At least without going through quarantine. I've managed to get around that by importing him digitally, but shhh don't tell anyone!

took me right back to the days I`d put on those "LP`S of Wes Montgomery, that easy to listen to jazz..[just my thought]
loved the music.

I hadn't heard Wes Montgomery until now. Talented man! Happy to have put you ind mind of him! He's a lot more hardcore jazz than this track though smile
Thanks for the listen and the feedback!

Hi Owen
No i don't think the intro too long it works well.
A retro feel to it which is fine by me.
I liked your vocal and overall production
It seems to be doing well chart wise as well
Cheers
Travis

I love the jazzy feel of this, Owen. Maybe that's why it brought Steely Dan to my mind. Regardless, I liked the imagery in the lyrics as well. The only word I stumbled on was "impotence"...it a tough word to fit comfortably into any lyric. Well done overall.

Ricki

@Travis, thanks for the listen and the feedback!

@Ricki, I'll take another listen to "impotence" - it certainly is an awkward word! Just a question of whether there is a better fit. Thanks for the suggestion smile
