Hi, all: This is just a basic guitar/vocal. I've yet to master how to put a finger-picked song into BIAB, so all you get is me on this one. Hope it's worth a listen. All the best, Deej So Breathe(V) I should have known it long before from the quiet ways you seemed to hold your breath. I feel so bad it felt so wrong to share this secret you’ve so closely kept. (C) Did you fear I would never love you as you are? Did you think I wouldn’t be the friend I was before? Well, relax—you know it now. So breathe. (V) All the jests and droll asides— how you hid yourself behind your smiles. It makes me sad to realize I never really knew you all this while. (C) Did I say something unforgiving or unfair to betray the trust I made you doubt was really there? Well it was, and it will always be. So breathe. (B) I’m sorry I was blind, that I could never see in the who I thought you were the who you’re meant to be. And I just want to let you know, I’m so glad you’re finally free. (C) Did you fear I wouldn’t love you as you are? Did you think I wouldn’t stand beside you all the more? Well, relax—just close your eyes. Sit back—your future’s open wide . . . So breathe. Morning, DJL:
..."How you hid yourself behind your smile"... struck me as one of the most memorable lines in a lyrical treasure trove. As our friend Travis said... you've produced a winner. There are so many big-name artists who would probably "kill" for a chance to sing this song. Thanks for sharing and best of luck as "So Breathe" climbs the ladder to success for you.
Congratulations in advance...
----Dave

Travis, Dave, Martin, Mimmo and Calvin:
Thank you for taking the time to listen and comment. It's a pretty simple take--and to Mimmo's point, perhaps I should enlist others to help fill this out just a bit. But for what it is, I was hoping it was passable and it seems so. Glad you all enjoyed the tune. Will let you all know if I do more with it.
Again, your feedback is much appreciated.
The best to each of you,
Deej

Outstanding, Deej. Depending on what you want to do with this song, this "basic" g/v could be all you need. I say that in jest because it is an excellent performance, hardly basic. It would work well in a live show. It's all you would need if you were presenting it to a publisher. I might also work in a submission to a music supervisor for licensing. It's not the kind of song that will require a lot of production, no matter what its use, just minimal, if anything. Then again I am the poster child for "less is more". Well done. Ricki

I wouldn't bother with BIAB at the moment. Instrumentation sounds good as is.

Ricki and Vic,
Thanks for stopping in and for the kind comments. Yes, I've always intended this to be a pretty stripped production, but thought maybe it needs more than just me on guitar. The DAW settings at least added some depth to the guitar, I think--but even then. Glad it works just fine for you as is because adding to it is beyond my skill level right now.
Ricki:
Can I ask what you mean by "I might also work in a submission to a music supervisor for licensing"? It sounds like an important suggestion for me to consider, so just want to make sure I understand it. Thanks in advance for educating me.
Kind regards to you both,
Deej

Just beautiful Deej. I loved the whole thing, but the bridge is special. I'm with the others, that for demo / work-tape purposes this already stands out. Unless you are working on a production release I wouldn't change a thing.

Sorry Deej, I didn't mean to mislead you. I meant to say "it", the stripped down version, would work if you were sending it to a music supervisor. Sometimes this is what they want, rather than a slick production. Alas, "I" have no power with music supervisors. Ricki

Sorry, right back, Ricki--I should have been more clear on my question. What I meant to ask was: I know what a "publisher" is (I think) but what is a "music supervisor"? I've never quite heard that term and was wondering what it is and how it ties into licensing. Maybe those terms are synonymous?
Regards,
Dave

Deej, a music supervisor is the person who decides what music will be used in a given production, such as a film or TV show. If you look at credits at the end of any TV show, they are usually listed along with the editors, producers, key grips, etc. Publishers have more connections and opportunities than the average songwriter, so to find one that leans toward film and TV placements would be ideal. There are a lot of websites dedicated (for a price) to sharing info on how to find music supervisors, and everything else involved in getting your songs licensed. Google: music licensing for film and tv...you'd be amazed how much info is out there. It's a whole other world. Ricki

Hey Deej … Sometimes just an acoustic guitar and your voice is all you need. THis is Exhibit "A" for that premise. Really a beautiful tune. You should be proud of this one.

Thanks, Dave . . . one cruises the various boards and hears the incredible productions that folks put together, and then the g/v just seems to pale in comparison, and you feel like it doesn't measure up. So really appreciate that this worked for you and that you enjoyed the listen.
Hope all is well with you.

Hi Deej, I just love the chorus in this, the whole song is top notch performance to me, those higher notes you hit in the ending of this song, and then you kind of put the song down easy...I like that. good listen.

Deej,
Wow, such passion! Loved this melody, especially the chorus melody--strong yet smooth transition in launching chorus very effectively.
One sug and idea and I'm not sure without hearing, might be to on the the last "breathe" at the ending to say: "so,,,, breathe" (spoken).
Beautiful song!

Eddie,
Thanks—appreciate the listen and support. Interesting idea you have there—I think I know exactly what you are looking for . . . and I’m also not sure without hearing it . . . which means I’ll just have to try to give it a go and find out. If I get around to it, I’ll certainly let you know.
Regards,
Deej
