People are afraid if we develop Artificial Intelligence to the point that it can think for itself, that it may take over the world and eliminate humans altogether. AI has replaced man as it is in many jobs. Some may curse AI because it is replacing man and taking their jobs, but without AI (robots) many jobs would go unfilled because there are not enough people to fill them, at least in our part of the world. They say two people that marry need to have 2.5 children just to replace themselves. Many families have none, some will have one, some will have two, but those having three or more are a rarity. Unless you can pay high dollars, you can't get people to work, jobs go unfilled. Is it not enough people or people too lazy to work.
I own a small farm which I turned over to my son, but he had to take a full time job and run the farm as a second income. He may have to forget running the farm altogether, because at harvest time he can't get workers to help harvest the crops. Either there are no one interested in making extra dollars, or just no one to fill the jobs, or no one actually willing to work a job where you might have to "work" for their pay.
I watched a program on TV where they are developing robots that actually look like people that you can program to do almost any job. They are a bit pricy but if they can bring the price down to a manageable level, they may be the answer to small farmers to compete with the huge corporate farms. Large farms have huge equipment that only require a handful of men to operate, so they can afford to pay large wages because of the volume they can produce. It is fast becoming a world where small business of any kind can not compete and will have to die. We will then be at the mercy of a very few huge conglomerates that can charge what ever the market can bear. Not good for the consumer. If they can bring the price down on robots to the average yearly wage of working people, don't be surprised when you go into a restaurant and a robot takes your order. You may not be even required to give them a tip.

Hi Everett:
Been to a McDonald's lately? They want you to place your order with an impersonal kiosk and have a front counter staffed by only one person. Sure, it's a way of reducing staff in the face of "congressional mandated" outlandish minimum wages... but just like those self check out spaces in Wal-Mart... I respectfully refuse. People need jobs. Customers prefer service... unless you enjoy that sort of thing and want to pay Amazon to do it for you, wiping out all competition standing in the way.
Is it the "wave of the future?" Probably. Now the Music Modernization Act has been "rammed through" with breakneck speed by the Custodians of the Library of Congress, ASCAP, BMI and any other former organization pretending to represent songwriters and musicians. If I could, I would lean out from the door of a high flying helicopter and "stream" upon their streaming services. Look at your costly Television Subscription Service. All commercials and very little quality content. All designed to "Dumb us Down" and they are succeeding.
The Internet is no better. You are being monitored by God knows whom... and I don't think it's entirely our Government. Can you say "Facebook, Google, Yahoo/Verizon, Apple and Microsoft?" They are now monopolies in every sense of the word. Our news networks are owned by Tiny Oligarchies and feed us a daily stream of unsubstantiated propaganda disguised as news. We are under attack... and don't even know it.

Aw, Humm, Well, I heard a story once, don't know if it's true or not. It seems a Space Craft approached Earth looking for intelligent life. After a bit of study the Commander said, fly on, there is no intelligent life here. I once head somebody say about the Navy, Designed by Genisuses run by idiots. Humm?????

We have an high unemployment rate here in my province, yet I see hiring signs in a number of businesses that don't seem to get filled. I'm finding that many young people want jobs, and jobs that pay well, but they don't want to work, or even show up for work. It seems to be getting worst with each generation. They don't want to put in the hours, just enough to get their booze and drugs for the weekend. Business can not operate like that, they need employees they can count on. Some businesses are bringing in people from foreign countries who will work. Local unemployed people then complain because these people are taking their jobs. Can't blame business for looking to any solution of this problem, even if it is AI.

Aw, Humm, Well, I have a nephew up in Ohio that taught Auto Mechanics in High School for several years. He also had his own Auto Repair Service. He retired from school teaching. He hired his best pupal to work for him. But alas, the guy would never show up for work! Some time back businneses tried to hire welfare people. The people wouldn't take the jobs because they were making more on welfare!

I once heard that a space craft came to earth, and seeing no forms of intelligent life, injected some DNA into a bunch of monkeys. They return from time to time to see what happened and to have a bit of a laugh. cheers, niteshift

"If one man can do it, any man can do it. It is true. But the real question is, if one man did it, are you willing to do what it takes to do it as well?" –Brian Austin Whitney
