This song came to me after reading the poem Low Noon by Jim Ralston. It occurred to me that I might be plagiarizing but after hearing the song, I'm happy to say Mr. Ralston doesn't think so and that this simple acknowledgement is enough. Thanks Jim. Musically, I was looking for something a little retro, like what Smokey or Boyz II Men would want to sing. Thanks Mike Zaneski for nailing it. https://soundcloud.com/rickib/doing-the-sameDOING THE SAME It’s been a year since we lingered in a slow dance Got lost in our dreams or gave us a second chance Haven’t heard your voice or whispered your name And somewhere, you’re out there, doing the same Long after we both knew for sure it was over We did what desperate couples do to get closer Now I deny it but know I’m to blame And somewhere, you’re out there, doing the same The days roll by too fast Can’t choose the ones that last Quiet ones no longer hurt They bring a different kind of thirst It hits me hard on a random Wednesday morning No clouds in the sky, a day that gives no warning That it’s safe to recall all the love you gave And somewhere, you’re out there Doing the same Doing the same Somewhere, you’re out there, doing the same ©Ricki E. Yup, he nailed it alright! And yes, I could hear Boyz To Men doing this, although I've never heard them sing a lyric anywhere near as good as this one.

I liked this; that Smokey/Jackson vocal was way cool. Mike Z is great! To me the background music in the 1V sounded like a '60's 45 being taped. (Perhaps the intent) I think something strong musically between the verses would help. I don't think the BV's are working as well as they might. I think a BIG chorus is needed. Best! -Mike

Hi Ricki Without reading your introduction of the song it brought back memories of those 60s pop ballads circa 1962. A nice intro and supurb MZ vocal. Really enjoyed your new old one.Worked well Travis

Thanks for listening and commenting, Mike. Not sure what you're hearing in 1V that isn't throughout the whole song? I wanted a Smokey-like sound and Mike Z did exactly that. I arbitrarily chose to write an AABA song, the refrain/hook after each verse and a bridge, without a chorus, because it seemed more in keeping with the retro feel I was looking for. Glad you liked it.

Ricki (and Mike),
The lyrics here are stellar—Mike does a brilliant job vocally here (and not taking anything away from him or the arrangement), but sometimes great lyrics make a great melody and vocal easier—I think that may be the case here. Wonderful, full production—pretty on the ear. Liked it from start to finish. Very cool!
Humble regards to you both,
Deej

Very nice Rikki,
Mike, you got the Smokie Robinson thing going quite well! This song very unique, kind of 60's vibe yet a more modern approach. This would make a great sound track song for an animated film.
