Now is All There Is
Grey fog hangs along the bay, Like the ghost of yesterday As we duck into a waterfront hotel Pint of Evan Williams in your purse Stolen passion is the sweetest curse My heart’s pounding as I tap the counter bell
Then the night clerk’s lifeless eyes Tell me someday I’ll regret your kiss But someday’s beyond my view, Cos, Baby, when I’m with you Now is all there is
Dusty rubber tree beside the wall, Threadbare carpet down the dingy hall And you whisper as I fumble for the key Far above judgemental streets, We make love in secret sheets Cos this tiny room has somehow set us free
Then the old maid’s tired eyes Tell me someday I’ll regret your kiss But someday’s beyond my view, Cos, Baby, when I’m with you Now is all there is Now is all there is
Gasoline and fire Myst’ry, danger and desire Toss a match and light it So our dreams can be ignited
Then the cabbie’s lonely eyes Tell me someday I’ll regret your kiss But someday’s beyond my view, Cos, Baby, when I’m with you Now is all there is
Grey fog hangs along the bay, Like the ghost of yesterday But now is all there is Now is all there is…

This rang home for me cause I have been thinking about spiritual things since i've lost alot of people lately.
So the question if right now is all there is has come up often.
Now can be a good thing or a bad thing, if everybody thinks now is all there is, then we'd all be doing alot of drinking and causing chaos.
Thought this was good.

I like it a lot. it paints a vivid picture of a slice of life.
and I think I have SEEN that dusty old rubber tree :-)
might have been the Mace in Reno the last time I was there before it closed. or possibly that hotel on 6th street in Sacramento. A lot of hotels have a slow aging process where they go from fine hotel, to old hotel, to shabby hotel with dusty plants and endtables in the halls, to weekly flophouse for bums and junkies, to abandoned building with dusty bums and junkies in the halls, to site of some new building.

When the Old Maid's tired eyes are right there next to you in the bed, and you have no memory of meeting her or the booze or the ambience of the hotel, you are glad as hell that now is all there will be. Will there be a new verse about the regrets being punctuated by shots at the free clinic? My regrets were delivered repeatedly in the stories of things I did that I will never remember, but others will never let me forget. Thanks for the reminder.
