Now in the morning I usually have some dry cereal for breakfast with a small cup of coffee and some juice. I may have some Wheaties, or Corn Flakes, or some Mini Wheats, etc. But guys, you must not be buying enough Wheaties as it is getting harder to find them on the shelves! I used to have Grape Nut Flakes also but the have disappeared completely! So guys you need to start buying more Wheaties before they also disappear!

Hey Ray, have a heart. The stores have to make room for Comet Crispies, Polar Puffs, and Fruity Sea Stars.

I read recently that Monsanto's Round-up has been found in Cheerios and Quaker Oats-that's not like the prizes we used to get in cereal...

Yes I also read that, I soon won't know what to eat for breakfast. I guess I'll go with rice products, or does Monsanto also supply rice growers with Roundup We are slowly being poisoned by the foods we eat and the liquids we drink.

Aw, Well, Humm,
Not too long ago they were talking about Arsenic in Apple Juice. Before that I think it was too much sugar. before that it was too much salt, before that it was pesticides on fruits and vegetables, etc, etc, etc. It's always something supposedly killing us. Pretty soon they will ban air and then we will be in real trouble! Eat up guys, before the world comes to an end!

Remember when Honey Crisps were called Sugar Crisps? Even cereals are in the political arena.

Uh, Well,
I forgot until just now but I had an Uncle, my fathers brother, that worked in the Pure Food Act over 100 years ago. First in Ohio and then later in Florida as I recall. So, all those guys have to work with their slide rules, chemistry sets and their Bunsen burners! It's called progress!

I miss my Wheaties in the morning. They are gone from the local shelves here too. No warning, the guy at the super market said they were having a hard time getting shipments of some things. I tried Honey Nut Cheerios but they were too sweet. I bought regular Cheerios but they didn't taste the same. Woe is me.

Ain't it a shame. We can't even control the grocery chains (soon to be only Wal-Mart and Amazon if the present trend continues) in providing our favorite cereals. The risk of buying anything over the Internet is a bit of a stretch for an old paranoid like me. I don't trust my government's adversaries, many of the Churches and none of the illegals who constantly break our laws by crossing the Rio Grande without permission. Try doing that the other way and the Federales will snap you up and throw you in jail without even notifying your next of kin. Maybe we need to consider invading Mexico? (Probably not a good idea, we don't need even more people "on-the-dole!") LOL!

Other than that, things are just hunky-dory!

Hey Ray, I checked two grocery stores and Target for Wheaties. They all carried Wheaties. A picture of "Uncle Drew" was on the box. So if you're in the Poconos - no problem - 'cause we're the Wheaties Champions.

You annoyed the clerks Ray. wink smile

They cant tell you to stop shopping there, so they quit stocking what you come in for. In Houston that's how some convenience stores handle the homeless. wink

Well,
I am glad you guys are on the Wheaties Patrol! Makes me feel good that I am not going to run out of Wheaties!

Martin, all those clerks are annoyed with me because I can't give them the time of day! I already have so many girl friends I can't keep up with them all! Boy I sure need my Wheaties!

Whatever happened to Nut Scruckets? I can't find them on the internet anywhere. Circa 1959 last I had them. The box had a rocket on the front.

New one on me Perry. Was it a cereal? Do you remember what company had them (Genneral Mills, Kelloggs, Post, etc)?

Well,
Wound'ja know it. My wife went to Publix this morning and found Grape Nut Flakes! Thanks John. When I was young, a million years go we could get Nabisco Shredded Wheat that you had to shred up as they were a good size. One per serving. Don't think you can get them any more, just frosted Mini Wheat's.

And in those days you would get Oleo, Margarine in a plastic bag of which the dye was in a separate pack in the container you had to break and mix with the oleo. Such were those days.

Still have the large Nabisco Shredded Wheat here in the Poconos. I eat it all the time. Yeah, one biscuit/ one serving size - but not for me. I eat three biscuits at a time!

I'm amazed they still make those "bales of Hay"... LOL! Yep, I remember them well... but opted for Wheaties or Cheerios whenever available. (They had toys inside the boxes!)

B-T-W, John... I'll be having lunch at Panera's tomorrow and will raise a toast in your honor.

Glad you got your fix of Grape Nut Flakes Ray. And yup, they still make that big chunked Shredded Wheat.
You can look at it for the time being until you track down a package. Try Amazon btw if you cannot find it locally

Well,
I'm sorry John of North of the Border but John of the Poconos says he gets the Nabisco Shreaded Wheat Cereal. and I remember the Nabisco Boxes. May had them as early as 1948! But we did get Post Toasties back in those days. Please don't tell MAB of FD. They'll think we've lost our minds!

Ah, don't think you know then that Post bought all of Nabisco's cereals in 1993, so JOTP must get the Post version pictured above...

It was a Grape Nuts knock-off. We added 1/2 cup sugar to a cup of this gravel, added milk, and waited until it was soft enough to chew.

And what about all of the brands below that are impossible to find in any (self respecting) grocery store. .
(the next 2 are real old jokes that are not mine, and the red hen reference is not mine either)

Prostitooties - they don't snap they don't crackle, they don't pop, they just bang all day.
- you throw away the cereal and eat the box.

or how about..

Tweeties (insert you favorite Trump joke here)
(isn't that what stormy once said?)

Huckabee's - ignores, spins, disclaims, or makes excuses for the vile repugnant and disgusting things that come out of tweetees.
(note Huckabee's is not served at the Red Hen café because they believe eggs and children should be cage free)

Original Ghoolianies - much like alphabits but with 9's and 1's so that almost every sentence has 911 in it

New Improved lawyer Ghoolianies - less 9' and 1's and a lot more L's I's E's

Milaninas - what's in it? I don't really care, do you?

Doctor Jackson's physical flakes - claims the net weight is 239 pounds (yeh right)

GOPies - once the Flake is gone, there will be nothing but nuts left.

Mitch's Mconneloonees - no matter how long the cereal soaks in milk, it will never be half as soggy and droopy looking as the face on the box. (caution: if you are hungry but the president is not a republican, you might have to wait a year) The box says 'Free copy of the constitution inside' but its only the 2nd amendment. If you want the rest of the constitution, you should buy the box labeled "Free toilet paper inside".

Pithy Pruits - no one knows if they snap crackle or pop because of the office sound proofing bought at taxpayers expense.

Kinda Clean Coalies - sure its not that clean and it will stain your clothes, your house, your air, and your lungs, but if you consume 6 tons of it, you can keep a coal miner employed for almost an hour!
https://www.eia.gov/coal/annual/

Swampies - despite claims of being drained, every week it keeps getting fuller.

Spicy O's - It’s the one with the picture of Melisa McCarthy on the box.

Donnie's Cheery Oval Orifices - You may never have actually purchased any; I never did either, but somehow our cabinet is full them. And every box comes with one of these trading cards

Orifice Famous saying
Scott Pruitt EPA stands for Environment Pimping Agency
Ben Carson Have hammer and stethoscope will travel
Steve Menucian Solar eclipse near fort Knox?
My wife and I should travel there at huge taxpayer expense
to make sure the gold isn't rotting or anything.

There's lots of others to talk about but to chew or talk about them you have to be willing to bite your tongue.

Golley Moosesong,
It sounds like you have been spending time with the upper echelon's of Society or what Donald Trump calls the Elites.
I thought California burned to the ground. I hear the Governor is begging all us peasants to send money because he doesn't have any. Well, we don't have any either, the Liberal's already spent it all but I suppose we will dig in and scrap, save, grub and send what little we have.

Of which reminds me of an old saying I forgot until just now. Moosesong, Everybody likes a little ass but nobody likes a wise ass. Maybe Trump will send the Governor a box of Wheeties, and a fire extingusher.

"the Liberal's already spent it all"
Ray, you have a Liberal in Brunswick, GA? I noticed you used the singular. And he's spent all your money? All by himself? LOL No wonder you're pissed!

Please send me his name. I'll have him censured at the next meeting of the Liberal Elite. You should join us one week. We have a fabulous wine collection, mostly French, and George Soros usually buys the pizza (it's flown in direct from Naples for that extra authenticity that can only be tasted in dough kneaded by a kitchen worker with taxpayer-funded healthcare).

Gee Gavin,
I didn't know you cared. I think what we have here Gavin is a failure to communicate. I don't think you have the foggiest notion of all the things that box of Wheaties went thru to get to your breakfast table. Fat, dumb, and happy you just go to the store and pick up a box of Wheaties with out a thought of all the things required to get that box of Wheaties to you. I think you need to get out more Gavin, and find out how the world really works. And, eat more Wheaties!

Ray:

I'm sitting here wistfully remembering "The Marshes of Glen" and your beautiful St. Simon's Island. Those were some of the most pleasant days I spent during my Navy Days. During my civilian career, I was only able to wangle one trip back there and I was not disappointed. Brunswick Georgia is a special place.

Let not the slings and arrows of your teasing friends discourage you. You are living in what I consider to be a paradise. Smile and breath in a little of that sea air for me. Then dive into another bowl of Wheaties or whatever suits your morning wishes.

Yes I am a bit of a wise ass. I must be getting old, I used to only be a smart ass. Its in my nature to make fun of things, quite often harshly or crudely, and sometimes my tongue is sharper than my wit.

I would not call myself part of the elite. However last month I must admit I did shop at target 3 times and walmart only once. I don't think state sponsered health care makes dough taste any better, but if a food worker is sick on Monday, I really do hope he can afford to see a doctor sometime before he fixes food I'm eating Thursday.

I was thinking of lots of snide and snarky retorts to put in a reply, but then I watched several portions of the services for John McCain. It put me in a completely different mood. I can see I need to tone down my harshness and look for common ground and common good.

David, I saw your post about John McCain, it was very nice. Thank you for posting that.

Dave,
It is nice that you find something that gives you fond memories. We, my wife, daughter, and I moved here in 1969. I got out of the Navy and we spent 6 months in Ohio where I am from. We had friends here, gone now, and of course grew with the place. It, as well as every other place has grown and become more modern but the growth of people stays about the same, not too big, not too small. Although we have about anything we would want we can go to Jacksonville or Savannah to shop. My wife and daughter took two of the (great) grand daughters shopping for school clothes last month. Yes, I am getting old! If I was going to recommend a place to move to it would be here. However Dave, we are trying to keep this place a secret so forget my recommendation! I think we have about 13 Pro Golfers living over on St. Simons. We of course live on the Mainland. I probably told you some time ago that they closed the Base in 1973. The Federal Law Enforcement Center now occupies the Base and the Airport has Commercial traffic.

Hi Ray:

I understand your desire to keep Brunswick and the surrounding area a secret. It was so pristine and full of natural beauty. Can't blame those Pro-Golfers for loving Sea Island, it's only an extension of St. Simon's but the beaches, golf courses and unusual charm are hard to describe. Across the bay, Jekyll Island, despite it's name was covered in distinctive vacation homes... and probably year round inhabitants. The birds and wild-life are incredible and the people in Brunswick and neighboring communities were a treasure.

One of the guys in our group married a local girl and their Church Wedding was such a pleasant experience... and a great escape from barracks life. I'm not complaining about our quarters on the Glynco Base. They were immaculate compared to our final base in Hawaii. At that point in time, besides our Squadron of Lockheed Radar Planes, they still had Blimps and those massive hangars dotting the landscape there in coastal Georgia.

Mum's the word... Ray. I'll do my best to keep your secret.
