I found out last Feb. that I'm type 2 diabetic when my vision started failing. I have Retinopathy.. Bleeding of blood vessels inside both eyes. Been seeing a retinoligist and getting injections in the eyes to stop the bleeding. It's a long process and I don't know if my vision will be restored but I hope so. My vision is getting worse even with the injections. It's hard to see the computer keyboard and I can barely read the screen.with reading glasses.so recording music will be hard to do. Just to let you know where I've been. It's Saturday, gotta take a bath now.

Happy bath day Ben !

Strangely enough, I was talking with a fellow with the same condition last week, although I'm not sure whether he has diabetes or not.

There's a number of gadgets available, including large size keyboards. Then you can always increase the size of your screen, even buy a huge digital monitor to place in front of you. The voice activated gadgets like Siri are also getting very good at interpreting voice commands, as well as voice to text.

Do you have a vision impaired society near you ? I understand they're great with practical and emotional help.

Sorry to hear this Ben, Hang in there ! I'm sure the frustration will ease somewhat with some help from folks who are really into this stuff, and can make life so much more bearable.

Perhaps their is a JPF folkster who has done this before ?

Chin up !

regards, Geoff

Thanks Geoff (Shufty) I haven't gone to that level yet. Still hoping my vision will improve with the treatments.

Sorry to hear this Ben. My eyesight is not what it use to be, nor my hearing and I'm losing my hair, just signs of growing old I guess. I know of a guy that has those needles put in his eyes every so often, sounds scary. I hope and pray you recover your sight. God bless.

Ben.

I've been really lucky as a type one diabetic most of my life. My eyes are the only thing not broken down on me. Have they had you checking your blood sugar to make sure you haven't transitioned to type 1? It might be worth asking and/or checking out with a blood tester if you haven't been. High blood sugar untreated can cause total blindness (I know that the hard way) but with treatment you might be able to get some of it back. I am really sorry to hear about this. Regardless of type one or two, you need to always keep your blood sugar under 130 and above 90. That's the sweet spot for most diabetics. I had it over 1200 when first diagnose as a kid and lost my sight entirely. Have always worried about that since, but instead it has attacked all my organs except my eyes. I may not last as long as most but I should be able to see til the end. Good luck my friend!

I can relate (through Sandra) what you go through Brian.

My wife, Sandra, has been a Type 1 since She was a teeny-bopper. Her blood sugar was 1260 when first diagnosed. She's classified a "brittle" diabetic. Super sensitive to insulin. Impossible to keep her blood sugar in range. Goes from as low as 40 and up to the 400's. She tests her blood sugar 10 times daily to keep it moderately controlled. Sandraís been on the Pump for 20 years. The only health issue she has (71 years old) is her vision. From the laser treatments through the years, all of her peripheral vision is gone. She only sees what's directly in front of her. Good news is that she can still read, crochet/ needle point, watch TV, in other words, live a normal existence. I have to watch her walking through stores and bumping into people and things. Her A1Cís are always good, so sheís thankful her health hasnít suffered other than vision.

Take care Brian & Ben, John smile

Ben:

I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Those of us with nimble brains and good eyesight are so very fortunate... and I am so thankful I don't have diabetes or Retinopathy. Sounds pretty scary and I hope your Doctor knows his/her stuff.

Keep us posted when you can, my fellow aviator.

----Dave

Just Plain Quotes
"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
