Sorry. I put this in the wrong place. Did not know that there was a video section...But...Now I Know.

Inspired by some people here, Janice and Bud, I created my first music video for a song called "Now I Know." Enjoyed it.
For anyone interested, here is the link.

Thanks Everett. smile

It is me singing lead. I don't know what auto-tuner Mike uses, but it may be more accurate to say that Melodyne and I are singing lead vocals. Thanks for commenting. I'm very appreciative that you like the song.

Wow! That is just such a moving song, and the video really works. I wasn't really sure about lyric videos, but when the words are as beautiful as these, it just seems to enhance them. As for Mike's production - the man is a magician.

I know Mel O'Dyne well. He's my vocal coach too.

Hey Martin, yeah it's in the wrong section, but COLIN or BRIAN or someone who is actually awake with move it.

I'm guessing you wish a critique, if not, just sweep the comments.

Your first attempt at video ?

First off, what a beautiful song, can't fault that.

The still cinematography is just beautiful. Are those your own model/photographers shots or stock footage ?

I'd have to say for a first attempt, it's not too shabby. It is what I would refer to as a story board.

We have the 3 elements, love/lost love, a weird sequin to provide intrigue, and the finale of the bloke who really misses her. Because you are using stills, the subtly of her actions are lost. But because this is only a story board, it's intent comes across well. The actress is beautiful, and you can sense her sense of longing. It's the small things she may do in movement, or a slight facial expression which will give it depth. The use of the girl with the clock is a nice touch and repeated as it is, provides a strange form of continuity.

I'm quite opposed to lyrics in a music video.Delete !

I am of a protagonist of Microsoft transitions. They cheapen a piece and destine it for the YouTube of white noise. There are so many talented editors who practice their craft, and they're only students who put out great results..Perhaps you could contact a film/TV studio near you and work with local students ?

You'll notice quite a few artists, who simply appear in their videos and don't even sing.

It is not fair to compare one to another, because of the budget ,but one track I try to get across is https://www.starnow.com.au/media/405247 . ( And yes, my own daughter appears in it, and it's only an advert } The main meaning is that the song and vision appear to be unrelated yet are deeply entwined, yet have no apparent relevance. That is due to the vision mixer, not the audio director.

You can do the same as well, with thought, and especially collaborating with others, your video will turn out great,

cheers, niteshift

PS - the guys who wrote tune, one guy from the middle of Tasmania ( no-where ) and a very well known Japanese violinist travelled with the film crew and wrote the song as they experienced new experiences.

Thanks Niteshift...

The stills came from UNSPLASH.com. It is a royalty free photo site that Mike Zaneski told me about. Very user friendly and lots of nice pics that are well tagged.

As for the visible lyrics....

I disagree on this song. The Aussie video had motion. My video is stills. There is sequencing and some movement in the stills, but I tried to use the lyrics to give the video a sense of animation. I played the song without lyrics. but because of the slow speed of the song and the nature of the content, the lyrics floating across a still with effect, imo, enhanced the video more than if they were not visible.

In addition to that, the purpose of today's music is to enhance the special-ness of the listener. Everything is about the listener and their reality show. They, not the artists, ultimately become the most important singer of songs. Providing the lyrics on the screen faciliates them. In the unlikely event that any young girl ever hears my song and wants to sing it...the lyrics are there for her.

As for film people. This is a hobby. The video is good enough for what it is and I enjoyed the heck out of doing it. Mission accomplished pending the defiance of astronmical odds against the song becoming anything more than a hobby.

Nonetheless....your input is greatly appreciated because it gave me another valid viewpoint to see things from. This song is a plea. The next song that Mike and I will develop is the response to that plea. I will carry your suggestions forward when I'm doing that video.

Thank you.

Martin

All good Martin, and it's all art ( which most sods couldn't even attempt, or even try to ) I once thought at one time I could write, conduct , produce and be the director on set. How wrong I was. Mike D has a great saying "who's on you team...... you Do have a team don't you ? " and I couldn't agree more.

What you have done is provide a beautiful visual accomplishment to a great song.Although it needs work, it has a strong visual representation and I think it's worth following up further. Nice work for a first cab off the rank.

cheers, niteshift.

Thank you nite...from me and Mike Zaneski.

It is very nice of you to say so.

Martin, I liked this song so much I posted it on my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/mysteriousbeings/

If even 25% of those who visit my page click through to your video, you could see your listeners surge by up to three people smile

Gavin,

I'm elated. A 25% response would triple the traffic to my page! wink

In all seriousness. that you would post the video up, means a lot. Made my day.
Mike will feel the same for sure.

Thank you.

Thanks John. I'm happy with what I did. The song had decent bones. But, as you know, when it comes to songs, it's about the music or nothing happens.
What Mike did with the music is what makes the lyrics and video and everything else work.

Thanks from both of us.

Martin

Lurking is a way of easing the pain of leaving a website. A habit needing to be broken but much like an addiction. Noticed this, saw the name of who posted it... and since I'm generally aligned with Martin's way of thinking... I had to click on that link. I've experimented with music videos before but my heart was covered up with music and all that soon faded into the woodwork. Everything fades when you cross over the big 80. What a stunning display of creativity.

If music and video can be considered Art... this merger, performed and arranged so very well is certainly art. Naturally, I enjoyed the music more than the video... but they worked so well together. Impressive work, Martin and Mike. One thing before I go... Martin, your vocal has that pure and simple honesty and it "sells the song" with such quiet power... I think you may have discovered your "calling."

Enjoyed so very much, ----Dave

Dave

First off...It's disheartening to see you write about leaving this site. I don't know what underlies that, but I hope that it fades to better and you come back more often.

Mike and I deeply appreciate your praise. Thanks from us both. You know I never get tired of talking about how much I like what Mike does for my songs.

As for my singing...I'm happy with my vocal on this.
But it may have been luck, that the song could "come-off" within my narrow vocal range, and a quasi-speaking tone, and with the crutch of Melodyne when I started breaking up at the top. Nonetheless, thank you for enjoying it and saying so.

I have written the chords for the last song to be done for this story. I can hear the vocal melody in my head, but I can't even cover 1/2 of the range. Do you know Adele? smile smile

Lovely song, Martin.
You did as well as you could with the stock footage.
I've made a few videos myself. Video stock is expensive.

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Thanks Vic.

In addition to enhancing my life with his musical abilities, Mike Zaneski told me about unsplash.com which is a royalty-free photo site with a ton of pics and a very good searchability. I got every single one of those pics there with no obligation to the photographers. I sent them all a message telling them that I was using their pic and credited them in the video. Only heard back from one. It's a great resource. Tr y it if you have the need.

Pretty song! Really dig the pre-chorus and the chorus is very catchy!

Thanks Laura. I appreciate you saying so.

Man, lucky you. Vancouver is a beautiful city. My favorite in this hemisphere.

Always fun to hear new artists, too!
Had to move from Vancouver two years ago, to Vancouver Island! Just as pretty though grin
