When I was doing my acoustic thing in restaurants and dying bars, I used to play this song i wrote. The few people who were responsive thought it was an anti death penalty song, but I told them it was just a song. It was kind of a response to how personal the news can get and how the jury of public opinion dominates. It will be a monsoon to record this full throttle, it's a bit easier just acoustic.... But then it won't rock which I envision

Throw Another Brick On Me

Johnny went to trial for a violent rape
They said he took a knife
and got some strapping tape
Tied her to the bridge, slit her pretty face
Took everything he wanted left without a trace

Now, Johnny done his best to keep his head up high
all the people in this town
they wanted to see him fry
but was he really guilty? It didn't matter much
He wasn't innocent enough for us

Things were really heatin up, it went nationwide
Cnn and Fox News
huddled side by side
but it never got as nuts as it was that day
A trial by the roadside as he made his way

Up the stairs to the court patience wearing thin
Till someone got up front
and took a poke at him
He said "I'd love to pull the switch hope you rot in hell"
And Johnny grabbed him by the shirt and he yelled

Throw another brick(on me, on me)
Go head and let another kick fly free
Throw another brick(on me, on me)
I"m tougher than you see
Throw another brick on me...

Have to say I was impressed by his tone of voice
Wasn't gonna be a victim
but did he have a choice?
It was then I started thinkin different, I had a change of heart
When someone's tellin you the truth they always look the part

And I guess that I was right, but a just little bit late
Johnny had been shot down by the courtyard gate
Later it was found his killer done the rape
I thought I'd heard his echoed voice from the grave

Throw another brick(on me)
Go head and let another kick fly free
Throw another brick(on me)
I"m tougher than you see
Throw another brick on me.....

This one brings to mind the saga of Jon Burge, the now disgraced former police commander in Chicago who induced confessions out of many through acts of torture. Sometimes the court of public opinion can be a bigger crucifier than can the actual court of law. Do you consider the whole #MeToo saga a prime example?

Glad you liked the lyric beechnut....

This is more about how trials are so publicized and how people are guilty because somebody accuses them. I guess the me too movement fits in somewhere.

To me the me too movement is overdone. Women have been using their femaleness to get places since forever. I can name several cases where places I have worked, a woman was sleeping with the boss, and got promotions and advanced their career. It would be kind of hypocritcal to complain about it later. Why now? Cause you got where u wanted to go, and now it's important to come out with it. If it bothered u so much u should have not slept with the guy, or put up with the guys advances, and done something else for a living

I don't condone abuse of any kind, but If you saw dollar signs, and were willing to trade yourself for it, what argument do you have.

Yeah these guys abuse their power, but short of rape, the woman doesn't have to do anything, they choose to do it in hopes of a career.

Rape is a different thing altogether

Hi Interesting Lyric you have written here

Do you know of a massive hit The Ballad Of Lizzie Borden, ?, I would think so ,

no matter how old you are--- I used to sing this song as a kid not really Knowing the gruesome

tale that was a well known Historical Crime, that would have shocked the

nations of many country's besides the U S A indeed it was a hit all over every English

speaking country, and it made a lot of money for the writer or writers

Very cleverly written, for that period of time

Another Writer you would know of Harry Chapin has made hits of other gruesome tales

using lines like--- reality pouring from her head ---- when referring to a bullet to the brain

of one off the shooters victims

One of the most important principles of songwriting is to remember that a good song is a partnership of many different components, all working together to produce a satisfying musical experience.

In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.

This lyric rings true. It happens quite often often. Trial by media.
A guy in the UK was hounded for years after being released by police for insufficient evidence of a murder.
Turned out that somebody else did it.

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Thanks Vic. Yeah DNA evidence has changed the game, many people have been released from prison for crimes they didn't commit after DNA testing came around and cleared them. DNA isnt always conveniently left behind though, especially when outside and the elements get to it.

I listen to a lot of Irish music and old western songs that chronicle the ever recurring tragic tales of young men meeting untimely ends from vigilante justice, or courts of injustice. "In the Ghetto" is one that haunts me after a friend of mine came to a violent end 45 years ago. Human nature shows consistently that is normal to do abnormal things under abnormal circumstances, and that we hurt others out of our own pain.

May I offer my "antidote song" of calm and peace for all who are searching for it?

Now comes the twilight of the day,
All cares just melt away,
And all below the evening star
Find gentle peace.

The last warm rays of setting sun,
Now dim as day is done,
The nightingale calls from afar
As labors cease.

And with long shadows,
There comes a breeze,
To carry troubles
Away with ease,
As you please,

The rugged hills are dark and bold,
Under skies of crimson gold,
And all the birds fly quickly by
Back to the nest,

And with an end to fevered rush,
Snuggled under twilight’s hush,
We share a little sleepy sigh,
In welcome rest.

And as the night falls,
And eyelids close,
The need for sleep calls,
In sweet repose,
So it goes,

Bathed in the light of lunar beams,
We’re free to dream our dreams,
Until the morning sun makes
Rainbows in the dew.

Does anyone know whether the murder ballad Tom Dooley is also a true story or not? The original version of it is entirely different than the one that the Kingston Trio took to the top of the charts in the late 1950s.

I have often wondered, now that more women are bosses, whether any of them would try the same sort of antics with male subordinates. I had a couple of women bosses and nothing like that ever happened; at least I was never propositioned in any way. I was actually shocked to learn that this sort of stuff even happened. But here is one song that became a minor country hit that deals with the subject.

There already have been cases. Mariah Carey was accused of something with members of her staff. And Kimberly Guilfoyle, from Fox News now.

Not as common, they dont have testosterone like men do.

Although I'm amazed at how many female school teachers are having affairs with students. I guess it was happening all along.

There are many of my school teachers I would have loved for them come on to me...lol. Never did.

But still, wrong is wrong
