Don't cry for me Argentina Memory
I don't think it gets much better than Andrew Lloyd Webber for musicals

I guess The Who's Tommy qualifies as a musical,so I might take the whole show as my favorite. So many great songs.

Oooh, I adore 'Rhapsody in Blue'. And I love 'Memory' from the musical 'Cats'. And for sure, pretty much anything by Andrew Lloyd Weber. Such melodies... Some years ago in Australia I saw a live performance (by the Negro Theater Ensemble) of an all-black revue show from the late 1920s. It was called 'One Mo' Time'. The songs were wonderful - and some were wonderfully naughty. My dream would be to write lyrics for a musical. Sigh...

Memorable for sure, Dave. I don't know if it's my imagination, but I wonder whether melodies of the past were - in general - more memorable? More...well...melodious? In the past year or so I've seen a couple of musicals (films), and once I'd left the cinema I couldn't recall any of the melodies. And yet I can still hum - or even sing whole songs - of melodies from some of the films that have been mentioned (and many others not mentioned). Mind you, I've not seen Les Miserables or Phantom of the Opera, etc., but I am familiar with a handful of the songs. Gorgeous for sure. Or maybe it's because when one is younger, one identifies more with the characters or the themes? Maybe a question for a social anthropologist. Probably I just need to see more of the modern musicals.

Well, Since I have never seen a Broadway Show I don't know. But I have seen The Nutcracker so maybe THE WALTZ OF THE FLOWERS.
