Would love your thoughts on my newest creation. Was trying to do a smooth soulful/jazzy throwback to the 70's. I had Wake Up Everybody by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes on my mind when I wrote it. One of my all time faves. This song wasn't meant to sound like that tune, but the feel of it was the inspiration. I'M NOT GIVIN' UP ON LOVEBy David S. Becker (c)2018 David S. Hi Dave i love the smooth soul music from the 60s and 70s Junior Walker, Curtis Mayfield's Move on up and that great early to mid 70s Philly sound. I like your new one too a good sound and lyric and good vocal. Never been keen on cancer in a lyric and I've always skirted around it using some other term or phrase but that's just me. Best of luck with it Travis

Enjoyed your performance and the subtle message of the song. Thanks for sharing your "liner notes" with us about what "inspired you" to bring out your talent and creativity on this one. As always, best of luck with your music.

Dave,
Nice. Cool opening - both the solo piano and then sax. Nice funky guitars.
The oohs work really well. Cool sax solo...
Enjoyed.

Dave,
Love the opening with the soft piano leading to the sax—wonderfully done. Overall, a well-produced tune; very pleasing to the ear. Definitely a late 70s, early 80s throwback sound. Agree with Travis on the use of “cancer” in a lyric; a sin I’m guilty of myself—easy to switch that out, I think, without losing much Really, love what you got out of that sax—and if this is BIAB, man, you’ve done much more with it than I’ve been able to so far. Very impressive.
Enjoyed this a lot, Dave. If I had one comment it would be that the chorus is very personal (“I’m not giving up”), as is the first verse, thought verse 2 and 3 are less so. Still works for me, but something to think about.
BTW, as I was typing this up, your cover of “To Know Her Is to Love Her” came one. Very, very slick. Great job on that one!
All the best,
Deej

@Ricki ... thx for the comments. Appreciated. Hadn’t thought of it but yeah ... a similar theme to All You Need is Love. Lennon and McCartney were before their time Dave

Hi Dave. Certainly has that '70's soul feel. I also have a feeling that "cancer" doesn't fit the mood of the song. Maybe it's a throwback from when nobody wanted to mentioned it, I'm not sure but somehow it just doesn't seem to fit imo.
Maybe substitute something like "Sometimes it feels impossible".
Vic .

@deejay... thx for the comments and listen 1. Though I appreciate the comments that is not my cover of “To know her is to love her.” I'm not sure I am even familiar with th tune. Someone else thanks you though! 2. Very new user to BIAB. I have used some BIAB files on my last two tunes, but this is my first attempt at a fully produced BIAB song. I like what I have seen thus far, though it is a very different thing for me and takes some getting used to. Thx for the comments. Dave

Hey, like I said on the BiaB forum this is one helluva first attempt at a fully produced BiaB song.
You already had the production chops and are a talented singer/songwriter so this BiaB thing should be a great fit!
The mix set up a very nice soundstage on the monitors. Everything has it's place. Nice
Keep 'em coming!

Dave, Wow, sorry about that—normally Soundcloud keeps you on the same artist, and I didn’t even look, particularly because the vocalist sounded very similar to you. Anyways, it was a nice cover, which I’m certain if you were to cover it, you’d outshine. Regards, Deej

Hey Dave,
Well, that sounds to me like a good bit of fun retro. I could swear I'm back in the 70's / early eighties pitching a TV sitcom and THIS is the absolute tune I'd use.
Its great. Fun, lively and BITD. Psst.... come 'ere..... and build a story around it and have a bit of fun. It is so "there" I'd swear it came from the archive.
cheers, niteshift

That song is really well put together. Your voice has a signature sound. I really like the sax solo mid way - really nice riffing.

Really cool sound Dave. Great production and message. "Put her to bed she's done."
