Enter the Twilight Zone... Someone on a JPF thread said that writing an original song wasn't possible any longer. Everything's been done. Bull manure! That's what challenged this song. Okay so it's a little strange. So am I... "So Blue" http://johnlarenceschick.com/homeJohn

Once again, Mr. Schick... this time with more "feeling"... LOL! This one could have been (still may be) a sound-track from a really creepy movie. Strange?.... Yes! Talented write and vocalization? By all means. Best of luck with it... and you certainly proved your point! I am envious.

For an acquired taste song, it needs to be listened to a dozen times.

I dig the sad blue sound in this piece--It has a suspended ending on a stairway to nowhere,, that disappears into the night!

John, So, I’ve listened to it three times . . . and I’ve got to say I agree it’s an acquired taste. Guess I have nine more listens to go. I do admire the artistry here—it’s far beyond anything I can do—but, as far as listen three goes, it’s just not quite my cup of tea (particularly as I’m not a jazz guy). Then again, I’m quite pedestrian in my musical tastes, so take the lack of acquired taste with a big boulder of salt. Keep the originality coming! Deej

Brrrrrr! More creepy than Dean Stockwell singing "In Dreams".
You are very good at these tunes, John.

It's like a mash up, a vocal and a piano solo thrown together for no apparent reason other than because they're there. It's original, but then I always think your pieces are original, even when reminiscent of something else. Yeah, not my favorite of yours John. For your next project, write something I can chair dance to, k? Ricki

It reminds me a bit of Angel Eyes.
If it's an acquired taste, what happens if you like it from the start?
I thought it was good.

Well I guess if I ever had a scintilla of doubt that I'm weird it has been confirmed that I am. Why? I liked it from the get go Now I have to see how Janice does with it. J&B

Hi John
It had me with only one listen. The chord structure works perfectly with the dream state lyrics. Fine piano playing and the singer nails it. I agree it's a song to be performed in a film. A standalone video could also compliment the mood.

John,
This is excellent. The quality of your presentation and production are nothing short of first class. This composition would have been a pretty comfortable fit with much that appeared in the free-form jazz period of the late fifties... I can hear shades of Debussy, Copeland, Gershwin and Bernstein within the music. I really enjoyed it.
All the best, Noel

All the best, Noel Thanks Noel! Yeah, I've been definitely influenced by your list of composers. I'd add Rachmaninoff, Ravel, and Gershwin to the list as well for this music. Best, John
