Listen with headphones (or earbuds) for the full effect...

Janice Merritt (Janice & Bud) helps me out with harmonies (again).

A NEW YOU

we've always done things a certain way
we had an understanding
we didn't ask too much of one another
no ultimatums no demanding

now you want to change all that
you want to shake thing up
brand new mask a different hat
talk of breaking up
upside down, spinning 'round
coming down and landing hard
where is this all coming from
you caught me off guard

a new you
i can't keep up
i can't keep up
a new you
i can't keep up
i can't catch
this new you

is it really better on the other side
the grass really that much greener
didnt you hear what taylor said
those people are so much meaner

you want to change this and that
you want to shake thing up
brand new mask a different hat
talk of breaking up
upside down, spinning 'round
coming down and landing hard
where is this all coming from
you caught me off guard

a new you
i can't keep up
i can't keep up
a new you
i can't keep up
i can't catch
this new you

i watched you walk away
i heard you slam that door
i truly hope you find
what you are looking for

a new you
i can't keep up
i can't keep up
a new you
i can't keep up
i can't catch
this new you

Different sounding.

I like the way that you let the melody line go where it would...if that makes sense.

Nice song.

Enjoyed my listen. This is a bit of a departure from your usual creations... and seems more "beat driven" which will probably make it grab the ears of a younger audience. Your vocal and J&B's harmony work are always so good. Bringing that deep sounding guitar at the end of each chorus is a really nice touch and takes this into the realm of a Rock Ballad... to my untrained ears. Great work.

B-T-W... I listened without Headphones on purpose just to see how it sounds on "tinny laptop speakers" and was impressed. Now I'll go back and try the Earphones. Thanks for suggesting it.

floyd "beat man" jane never gets complacent. Janice had a blast participating on this project and we were both impressed with what he did with the country girl's vocal track. Really cool processing and the loop of her at the end was a big surprise to us!

We don't mind working outa the box every now and then but it's way above our paygrade to take on a project like this. Just to conceptualize it is one thing but then to find the "right" loops, etc., and mix them in this manner is another. I had a friend play it for his 15 year old daughter who is very musical and she gave it a great review! So mr jane has become quite cross generational or something like that!

And, if y'all haven't, play it on a good sound system and turn it to at least 11.

Floyd,

This is a cool listenófor me, kind of an 80ís sound (donít ask me why Iím thinking of Rick Astley). Love the way you finish this oneógreat ending! And, as usual, strong production that helps take it to another level.

All the best,

Deej

Hey Floyd,

Great piece of writing and as always such a great vocal. The whole thing worked for me, especially Janice's BV's. Definitely different from your usual works. I thought every song needs to be a love song, though? This seemed like almost an anti-love song? smile Joking, of course. Great stuff.

Hey Floyd,

Just love this piece. It's all working, especially the production. And then taking the hook into a new realm just makes it soar.
