https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13736582I Initially wrote the lyric and UK folk singer songwriter Phil Simpson joined me in a music collab. Vic Arnold did a great version of the song a few years ago which did get interest from a UK publisher but it wasn't taken further. I asked Mike Zaneski to do a folk version as it was initially intended as folk. This is the result. Thanks to Mike for his voice and production. DESPERATE DAYS AND SAD SONGS VERSE 1 In the fire embers flicker last dance before they die Topped up my cup of coffee then glanced out at the sky CHORUS Desperate days and sad songs soon back where she belongs Hard battles never won on journey's so alone Desperate days and sad songs we're back where we belongs VERSE 2 The nights chill SENDS a shiver but I felt a warmth inside She's returning in the morning feels like a gentle flowing tide CHORUS BRIDGE WE left it too late to be sorry I said,we can't go on like this! VERSE3 Been a year since I saw her never been another never will hated those stairs of solitude became a mountain from a hill CHORUS

If you wanted a folky interpretation you got one...and a nice production at that!
Everything (vocal, lyric and arrangement) gently flows along with a fine mix and vocal. Smoooooth!

Travis,
Nicely done piece—mellow, chill—and well produced (no surprise coming from Mike). Good luck with this one—it should do well.
All the best,
Deej

Nice production. Sounds more like a Carpenters ballad to my ears rather than folk. I was never good at identifying genres though so I could be wrong.

Hey Travis,
Put me in that group with your wife and Vic … This has Carpenters written all over it. Not folk to my ears, but I am a big Carpenter fan, so that comparison is a good thing. Michael did a great job with the performance and production. I can picture Karen Carpenter sing this song, with that pure pristine voice of hers. In fact, the comparison made me stop typing and go and listen to one of my favorite Carpenters tunes, Superstar, written by Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett. Wonderul song Travis.

Another song uploaded to the BBC Introducing programme. A showcase for unsigned under the radar singers and writers. Travis

John,
I found that the ambience created by the arrangement, vocals, melody and lyrics was a very haunting experience. It's easy to hear that a great deal of time and effort has been spent in the creation of this one. A very enjoyable listen from start to finish. Kudos to you and Mike.
Regards, Noel

Hey Travis and Mike,
Yeah, this song really moved my perspective. To me, it's Celtic in origin, as so, I could be sitting in a small village in the middle of nowhere, and this song would be perfect.
cheers, niteshift

Great song with a powerful lyric. Brought to mind a rather long ago song with a somewhat similar theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMqJYNb5JrY
