I wrote this song a little while ago for some forum friends on another site.

I've just signed up to 'Just Plain Folks' and because I don't have a brand new song to post, and I wanted to find out how others in a different region on the 'net hear my music, I thought I'd post this one. I hope that's OK. If not, please remove the thread.

If anyone has a couple of minutes to listen , I'd really appreciate it.

--So Beautiful--

Please feel free to comment, good or not, on any aspect. (The only thing that I cannot really do too much about is my accent!)

Thank you,
Noel

Lyrics

SO BEAUTIFUL

Through the leaves and branches
Look at all that sunshine
A new tomorrow and it’s breaking free
You know, like the rising sun
You are so beautiful to me

When I’m on my own
Just me and memories
I’m usually smiling ‘cause you’re all I see
You know, like the rising sun
You are so beautiful to me

I don’t know what each new day will bring for us
What surprise will knock knock knock at the door
But as long as you’re beside me skies are blue for us
And life is true for us
Come sunshine, rain or storm

On all this planet
So vast and awesome
It’s here with you that I choose to be
You know, like the rising sun
You are so beautiful, so remarkable
You’re the sunshine that makes my day
You are so beautiful to me

Hi Noel:

It's "Beautiful"... and welcome to JPF. Simple, strong, well written and performed. What could be better.
I hope you'll find a comfort zone here (lots of forums and topics) and jump right in. If you need help, please ask. Most folks here are helpful, friendly and kind.

All the best, ----Dave

Thanks Dave!

I've been having a look through some of the forums and it certainly is a songwriter's abode here for sure! I'm looking forward to finding out. Thank you for your feedback on my song, too.

Noel

Hi Noel
A big welcome to you.
Where are you based? Noel sounds Irish or UK maybe?
I like your song it's a pleasant sound and well sung.
If you can it's best to post the lyric below your song link as it does help to give feedback on both the music and words.
Again a nice song

Hi lyricwriter,

Thank you! Yes... everything is done at home on my desktop computer. I don't have an expensive set up but I use the audiophile edition of Band In A Box from (PG Music) for all my backings. This means that I don't have to worry too much about background noise on anything other than vocals. It also saves me a heap of time when putting backings together and gives me more time for writing songs smile

I appreciate your taking the time to have a listen and to comment.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks John!

I appreciate the welcome, the listen and the feedback. I'm Australian, by the way, and we have a bit of a British tinge to some of our accents. Maybe I fit into that category. Also, thank you for letting me know about the lyrics. I'll go and add those now.

Best regards,
Noel

Hey Noel,

Welcome from a fellow Ozzie grin

And welcome from a point of view that you have the guts to put up your work. That's the most important step. To put yourself up for potential ridicule is one of the steps that's need to be taken, and overcome. Any "criticism" given here will only be in the best intent, and for a matter of help or referral if, if you're open to it.

OK, to the song.......

Overall, well written and well structured. A lot of songs here are presented as demo's and this is one. Aside form production, I think it's structured and the intent of the song is coming off well. There are a few cliche's in the lyrics which need to be addressed. Think of the phrase, but say it in a different or oblique way.

Go back, re-work it so it doesn't come across as flippant. More depth and more feeling. Tell me a personal story rather than a generic one.

Again, welcome, and I hope that I can hear more of your work.

cheers, niteshift

Hey niteshift,

It's great to see other southern hemisherians on the forums! Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. I'm not quite sure how my writing is flippant but that doesn't really matter because I do understand your point about cliches and I appreciate knowing that you heard the lyrics that way.

I'm glad you found time to have a listen. I always greatly value the thoughts of others.

Noel

Hi John,

Thanks for the returning visit! I heard that there are quite a few Aussies in London! Hope all is going well for you boy in Dubai. That would have more deserts than we have in in Aus!

This sounds really nice, Noel, a sweet folk style love song. I could also hear it played as a show tune. Maybe what niteshift was getting at was that you're telling us this person is beautiful like the sunrise but not showing us how or why. What is it about her that makes you think of the rising sun? There's nothing in the lyric that goes beyond the surface, nothing to hold onto. You say it's not a new song, so maybe now, if you're comfortable with it, you can go back over it, line by line, and start digging deeper into the heart and soul of what you're trying to convey. Don't just tell us about this person, make us feel it. It's a good start and you've got the bones, now flesh it out.

Hi Ricki,

Thank you for dropping by. I really appreciate that you had time to have a listen. I'm equally appreciative of your thoughts and thank you for taking time to jot them down. I always find it very valuable discovering how others hear my songs. It's one of the best ways that I know of to grow in skills.

Thanks again,
Noel

Hello Noel and welcome to JPF. First off, blown away by the mix and the tone of your acoustics. Just beautiful. Musically I was really impressed. Loved everything about the melody and recording. I agree with Ricki though lyrically. I didn't find the lyric differentiated itself from many other love songs. Loved loved loved the music nonetheless.

Look forward to hearing more.

hey floyd,

Great to see you! Thanks for the comments (again).

It's taking a while but I'm presently working on a bit of an analysis of 'Mistakes'. At the same time I listened to your song a little while back, I came across an article on dissonance from the perspective of poetry and I've been trying to wrap my head around it in relation to lyrics. When read about it, I understand dissonance with words but then people give examples and I can't see the forest for the trees! Ah well... I'm not giving up. It's a sign that I need to clarify this in my mind. As always, your songs spur me on to better things and more thorough understanding smile

Hope all is going well for you!
Noel

Hey Dave,

Thanks for the comments. You made my day! I appreciate everything you said about the music. As I said to Ricki, it's always good getting another pair of ears to hear things. It helps add objectivity.

Really appreciate it.

All the best,
Noel

Noel,

What a pretty tune you have here—it sounds great! Really, the guitar work and accompanying instruments just slay—just pull the listener in. And the vocals and phrasing, just work so well with the sound. Liked this a whole lot.

And, hey, welcome to JPF! Will look forward to hearing more from you.

All the best,

Deej

Thanks for visiting Soundcloud and having a listen, Deej! Much appreciated. It certainly seems like a good friendly neighborhood here.

Regards,
Noel

We liked this the first time we heard it and it just gets better. The write, the arrangement, the performance and the mix are top drawer.

The clarity of the mix and the soundstage it sets up is outstanding on our monitors.

Kudos!

Hi Janice and Bud,

Thanks for listening again. I'm glad that the mix still works. For me, mixing is still one of the most gruelling aspects of getting a song together! Ozone and Nectar are my best friends in this area.

Thanks again,
Noel

That's a fine song. Simple chords but you do something really original with you melody. I enjoy you voice - and your recorded guitar sound is top notch.
