Hi all. I am assuming everyone knows the old rhyme. Would love to hear your thoughts. Vic https://soundcloud.com/vic-arnold/green-bottleshttps://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13719014Green Bottles © 2018 Vic Arnold v1 It took some time to rearrange all the letters on the page of your downfall You stood so many tests and too numerous were quests you can't recall The truth was left behind in you crazy mixed up mind of all their lies Your social life was steered by the small minds of peers you raised too high ch. Go listen to your false apostles Throw your stones 'til a real one topples and there are no more bottles ... on the wall. There are no more green bottles on the wall v2 If I gave you my last breath would you swear there's still one left that you want too? If you're told this is the end would you find a way to bend the truth for you? There are souls who contemplate before they find that it's too late to turn around wasting time they now recall stacking bottles on the wall to knock them down ch. Go listen to your false apostles Throw your stones 'til a real one topples and there are no more bottles ... on the wall. There are no more green bottles on the wall

Good one, Vic. Really good lyrics and a great vibe to the whole thing.
Nice use of the BIAB oohs and aahs. I have not got the hang of them yet.

The green bottles reference comes thru loud and clear, no problem. I think the chorus is the strongest part of the song. It's a powerful and direct message, and the melody has cut through and emotion.
I found the lyrical arrangement of the first verse a little confusing, like it had to be decoded and re-arranged before it made sense. That's a bit strong, but that kind of feeling. For me that's making it harder than necessary for the listener. But I concede that's likely a personal viewpoint. There have been plenty of good songs that need a little interpretation.
Good feeling overall and and a high quality sound!

Once had a girl in Germany, that would pour Four Roses in my beer--I'd float off to LA La Land--then I'd reflect, and then shoot the bottles I emptied with my Model 10 Smith and Wesson, knowing she had a cheater's lie to tell!--I thought many times 'bout blowiing her away.
Keep up your writing and playing from WALES!

Vic,
I enjoyed my listen. I am not familiar with the old rhyme (though I looked it up after), but not sure it matters that one know it for this song. It’s an engaging lyric and sound from start to finish. Good stuff!
Best regards,
Deej

Hi Gavin. Thank you. Glad you liked it.
Nothing much in biab can be used as it is. Cut, paste, stretch, fade and trim.

Hey Vic,
I'm also not familiar with the expression or the old rhyme--please enlighten. However, I'm still trying to figure out Dylan's "My Back Pages" after 50 years, so I'm patient about these things.................
I really do think these are fab lyrics, good music too. I feel it's sometimes cool not to have a song's meaning be crystal clear, on the first listen or two--(except for nursery rhymes). A super good write here IMO, I really love how the guitar cuts through the mix like a knife--disdaining effect!

Is it kind of like "100 bottles of beer on the wall"? You have such an enjoyable sound, Vic. Nice to wake up to in the morning. Ricki

Powerful write Vic. Really enjoyable. No nits from me. Great lyric, wonderful melody and fantastic performance. Oh yeah, the recording was real good too. Love it. Ha ha Ricki ... I can remember many bus rides as a kid with the entire bus singing 100 bottles of beer on the wall. When I first listened to the lyric I thought the same thing, but quickly realized that that isn't what this song is about. Dave

Thanks for lending an ear and the comment, RainyDayMan. I'm glad the chorus is strong. The slight ambiguity is intentional. If it was a pop song I would make the meaning clearer. With this type of song I like to let the listener figure it out. Basically, the first verse is about the time wasted following flawed ideology and how often the beliefs were dashed. It'll never be a hit. :-)

No problem. You get a lot more flexibility when you're not worried about commercial criteria. Glad it's coming out how you want it to!

Cool intro Vic and excellent guitar work through out. To my ears it sounds as if you had quite a fun time laying down the vocals. A "Fun Time" doesn't always mean easy time but you can be proud of the out come here.
Oh Yeah... liked the writing too: "Your social life was steered by the small minds of peers you raised too high"

"Go listen to your false apostles Throw your stones 'til a real one topples "
Cool lines and cool rhyme.
Regarding the ambiguity we both like songs that leave a few dots for the listener to connect tempered with his/her experiences, etc.
Nice write, vocal and production.
Enjoyed it!

Thanks Ed. Glad you approve. I do get tired of simple lyrics that leave nothing to the imagination. Like an adult reading a child's story book, very pleasant but bland.

Hi Ricki. Nice to know I woke you up. :-) It's a kid's rhyme and yes, similar to "100 bottles of beer" but not so enjoyable. Thanks for that comment. Vic

Nice Vic, I really like the chorus. That guitar actually sounds pretty cool for biab, sounds like Pete Townshend slashing his power chords.
I enjoyed.

Hi Vic, I have always liked your vocals, singer/songwriter style.. this is a bit more than you and a guitar but thats ok too. I like the music, but don`t ever lose that "me and my guitar style it has a lot going for it...just my thought..Lane

Nice smooth feel to it and pleasing to my ear....I keep trying to see in my mind the false apostles idea...thinking does he think he is his own Messiah or what? Probably not...but interesting words.

Thanks for having a listen, Doug. My definition of a false apostle in this case would be someone spreading lies. I'm sure we all know them. Some politicians, some in media, some in advertising and some religious leaders to name a few.
