It has been a while since I have been on here, and its good to be back!
I wrote this song about my dad, who I lost to cancer when I was 18.
Although it is about my dad, I think the chorus and some of the lines are more inclusive.
It is an acoustic track right now with vocal. Thanks in advance for taking the time to listen
and for any feedback you would like to leave!

Dad I miss you
Todd G. Strachan 2018

Sitting here, as my life flys by,
Couldnít help but think of you.
Shedding tears as I reminisce,
You were taken way to soon.

Chorus
I love you, I still need you,
Sure wish that I could see you,
And spend a little time with you.
You made me who I am,
And dad I miss you.

Just a kid, barely 18 years,
When I said goodbye to you.
Still donít know how to walk away,
And the pains been with me all these years.

Chorus

Now Iím grown with kids of my own
And I know the joy and pain I put you through.
Through it all, your love shown through,
Your love was always true!

Chorus

I was 16 when my dad died Todd and it took me years to come to terms with it.
I guess this is why I treasure all the time I can spend with our own two boys.
Great heartfelt tribute to your dad, years pass but years still flow i know.
All the best with it
John

A nice tribute to your Dad, Todd. Simple and from the heart. Just what it ought to be.

Hi Todd:

Loved the guitar intro and breaks. I don't know which would be worse... losing one's father early or while still a teen? Both are painful events but I suspect it is much harder on an older child due to the "imprinting" that goes on with time. Lost my Dad to cancer when I was twelve but was too young to realize how difficult life's road had just become.

You have an honest vocal and I believe you have the "tools of the trade" to carry your music to wherever you want to take it. Thanks for sharing. ----Dave

Hi Todd,

What a beautiful song, and wonderful tribute. I can relate as well, was only 22 yrs when I lost my father at 44 yrs to cancer. Your heartfelt emotion really comes through.

Being its such a personal song, you may not be open for much change, and I get that--but you did ask for feedback. A couple of "sugs," for consideration, and certainly not nits. I might consider adding the word "so" at the end line of the chorus--you have plenty of "you's" and the phonetic "oo" that goes with that. I think it would "prosody-wise" improve that line as well by saying: "And dad I miss you so." It also gives you another vowel sound giving your chorus more of its own phonetic identity--JMO I might also experiment not using "through" to rhyme with "through" in the last verse--that shouldn't be too difficult.

A couple of sugs for you to chew on. Hey, I loved this song, and was touched myself--thanks!

Hey Todd, good to hear from you.
I love the mix/arrangement of the guitar tracks ... sweet.
It a touching write and a beautiful acoustic performance.

Keep up the good work

I was 5 during WWII, when dad passed away--I feel your loss through your acoustic song!

No matter the way death sneaks in on us, we hate to give a love one up. A very nice tribute to your dad!
