Spotify is going public on Tuesday 4/3/18.
I plan on buying shares. Who else is planning on jumping in?

It might be an interesting play. They are dominant in the marketplace, but music is readily available free on YouTube with playlists you can create and often videos to go along. YouTube is the second busiest search engine and it is all free, much of it has no commercials attached plus anyone with YouTube Red never has commercials on any content, so Spotify does have one massive competitor. I'll have to take a look, thanks for the heads up.

I saw a panel on one of the financial channels discussing this Initial Public Offering (IPO) and several indicated it would be pretty volatile the first trading day. A couple of them said they would not take the risk until the general direction the offering seemed to be headed had been established. I never heard them mention the suggested opening price/bid. Good luck if you decide to roll the dice.
My Facebook gamble paid off handsomely but when my broker suggested I establish a "sell" safety margin, wouldn't you know it, the price dipped slightly one day and "the baby was thrown out with the bath water." Sure, I made money but I would have preferred to hang on for several more months.

Wouldn't you know it... the "big boys" priced out the little guys by establishing the open above $159.00 bucks. Typical! Insider trading goes on all the time but only those incapable of defending themselves get punished. I suspect this puppy will sink like a hot rock.

its going to drop first with employees dropping stock.
I'm waiting for the bounce like what happened with Facebook.
Unlike MP3.com which rocketed on the IPO then tanked hard.

Good luck, Jody:
It would have to get down in the teens for me to consider buying a "round lot." Most of us are destined to participate in 401k's managed by someone else. One thing is certain, failure to "pay one's self by stashing what you can afford" on a regular basis (each pay period) will lead to a life of misery when retirement or an unplanned layoff happens.
It would be interesting to see what might happen if the PRO's established a participative savings retirement plan for members... even if they don't provide "matching." So many young people today don't have checking or savings accounts and that (to me) is a real tragedy.
Best wishes in your investment strategy.

I'll have to ask my stock trading buddy what he thinks about Spotify. My gut feeling says that it would be too easy to copycat the platform, and it already has many competitors like Pandora, and the like, and don't think that people still aren't stealing music online without any need for Spotify.
I have stock in Sirius, got some when Howard Stern first went over, at that time the growth was exploding, not as many new users now, but they have unique ways of making money. The stock is doing well right now
The best stocks which is kind of sad, but pharmaceuticals. If you can get in on an up and coming drug, say like an arthritis or cancer drug, while its still going through clinical trials, when that drug hits the market the pay could be huge
I'm not a big stock person though, sometimes the bank is the best place for your money

Hi Brian:
Spotify's stock price is holding at about $150 today. It is down a bit but not nearly as much as I had suspected. ----Dave

I just don't understand musicians investing in such an anti-musician entity. Maybe I'm missing some facts? John

Yeah but even Marie Antoinette would have said they offer pretty slim pickings... but musicians have mostly been happy to eat scraps to date and undercut earnings to get a gig etc. lowering the market for everyone.
