Something reminded me of this recently... ANY PORT IN A STORMhe's hell-bent on finding the ghost of garbo with the golden key to his heart that lady of ladies that link to pure love that line on a heavenly art but he marks out his watch in an unlikely place for the queen of romance to appear the prey is so easy in this jukebox saloon when he wins he's not sure that he cares any port in a storm a boy must keep himself warm any port in a storm the life of the party that prince charming smile the little boy is an easy sell quick to give in for the sake of a friend he knows he plays his modest well another cinderellla's ready to try to fill the dream that he's hoping to find and he wouldn't want to miss that magical kiss when love takes him from behind any port in a storm a boy must keep himself warm any port in a storm who is to say who turned out to be less than the other planned don't waste the time looking behind find a woman to lend a hand any port in a storm a boy must keep himself warm any port in a storm Thanks for listening. Comments welcome. floyd

Hi Floyd:
"Any old port in a storm"... was a pretty popular expression during my Navy days... LOL! This one strays from your "Nashville Personae" a bit... and I like it. A terrific lyric backed up by that super trumpet player... and your always "thoughtful" vocal delivery. Thanks so much for caring enough to share this with us. Splendid work! ----Dave

Love that brass in the intro!
Great lyrics and lovely vocal delivery.
Might consider using the brass more sparingly, it really gives a unique sound, but I would keep it at the beginning and then reprise towards the end.
Cheers,
Kevin

Hey Floyd: Musically, I was caught up in this the whole way. Nice! Not sure I'm following the story line though. Verse 1 was clear enough. Not sure what's happening in verse 2 and the bridge. Not that I insist on being able to understand songs in order to enjoy them. And I did enjoy this one Scott

Hey Floyd:
I've been wondering about the small number of "plays" this one has received. I'm wondering if folks are surprised that it "strays" a bit from your usual genre they expect? I still think it has great prospects. ----Dave

Kevin - thanks for listening. I know the trumpet seems "busy" in some spots. The production on this was a "nod" to Springsteen's "Meeting Across The River" - which has that same kind of trumpet running through the song - in and around like this, so I wanted to try that out... Ricki - That's a good thing, right?... ...One of my favorite reviews...

Germain Thanks, Germain...appreciate that (And thanks for the comments on "A Hole The Size Of Texas", too!!) Hey Floyd, Ahhhh ....... mmmmmmm.......... yeah ( whispered ) ...... What an enjoyable listen, I'll have seconds on that one. cheers, niteshift PS - small nit, cut back on the trumpet solo's a bit ? Too much can be ..... um. too much. Hey, Nite! Glad to have you drop by... As I mentioned to Kevin earlier, I know the trumpet might seem a bit busy... I modeled this production after Springsteen's "Meeting Across The River". It does a similar thing running a trumpet all around the vocal and piano - so I gave this that treatment... Hey Floyd: Musically, I was caught up in this the whole way. Nice! Not sure I'm following the story line though. Verse 1 was clear enough. Not sure what's happening in verse 2 and the bridge. Not that I insist on being able to understand songs in order to enjoy them. And I did enjoy this one Scott Hi, Scott. Thanks for having a listen. The "confusion" of verse 2 and bridge are likely from the fact that I wrote this lyric 40 years ago about a guy I knew. A real "charmer" who seemed to "have it all" but always ended up moving from one woman to the next and seeming kind of "lost and sad" because of it... (my writing was less developed back then).

I still think it has great prospects. ----Dave Can't really say. There is so much music for people to listen to these days. It is hard to catch up. I write and sing and produce because I love doing it. If ONE other person listens, that's a win... (thanks for being one of them!) Another beautiful composition Floyd. The piano provides a great foundation.

Thanks, Nelson... I knew it would be good. And it was. Appreciate that, Martin... That trumpet is so amazing and it is masterfully used in this. Love your vocal, very emotive, the track is lovely, great song! Tammy - thanks for having a listen...

Terrific arrangement. All so well done to support your fine, actually remarkable, vocal. Folks who are surprised by this genre could have fun digging a little into your catalog where they will find a bit of Americana, country, jazz, blues and rock. Heck, even a couple of "beats" tunes Glad you mentioned that Springsteen song...yes! Enjoyed it. J&B

Floyd,
Beautiful job with the very difficult prosody given these lyrics and music--I don't mean at all that you are compensating--its very well written--but not an easy melody to sing or time.
I'm trying to find something to critique around here, but everyone's getting so good, nothing to say constructively..........too much talent around here!
Beautiful song......
