Even knowing this may not be a cuttable song in today's country market, sometimes you just have to scratch that "honky tonk and traditional country" itch and write it anyway. This is the first demo of this song, but we are currently working on producing a second version to give us a wider range of pitch opportunities. Thanks for listening! Best, Marvin http://frettie.com/track_detail/1795

Great write, Marvin:
This thing will burn up the juke-boxes down here. Your demo singer hit one out of the park for you. Best wishes for success, money... and two more... one for you and one for me! LOL!

I liked it a lot. Very authentic sounding and well done demo. Puts my head in the 11th Street Bar in Bandera, Texas. Wish I was there now.
Very nicely done.

Hey Marvin, That's simply a great honky tonk tune mate. Could be played anywhere around the world at the early hours and get a great crowd response. I'm going back for seconds. cheers, niteshift

Hey thanks Martin, Calvin & Niteshift for the great remarks. The demo singer is actually Buddy Jewell before he won Nashville Star a few years back. I am taking this song back into the studio next month to freshen it up for some of today's country artists. It doesn't hurt to have more than one version to increase pitching opportunities. Thanks again pals for listening!
Best, Marvin

Keep on scratching 'em if this is the result. Nice tune and cuttable or not we loved it! Have you listened to Mark Chesnutt's "Tradition Lives?" There's still room for this music and man does he ever nail it on that recent album. This tune would fit right in,
J&B
BTW, I read your comments on another thread about Frettie. I took a look around it and was a bit disappointed that they had so little interest in the production of the tune. I know it's about songwriting but I find production equally fun. Thanks for the heads up regarding the site.

Hey Janice & Bud, great to hear from you. I agree with your comment regarding production. I love a good guitar/vocal song as much as the next writer, but production is so very very important to most demos if your intent is to actively pitch it. Some writers will tell you that a good A&R person should be able to hear the potential of a song, but sadly that is seldom the case. A song has to knock their socks off, and production is a huge part of being able to accomplish that.

Really cool song, Marvin and the demo was excellent. I wonder though if it wouldn't be more likely that with this style of song, he'd be saying "two more barkeep"?

Hi Ricki, and thanks for listening. You are right in that using the word "bartender" would be the natural way to go, so that is why I went with the word "waiter". It is not what the listener would expect and the alliteration is smoother.
Thanks pal!
