Humm,
One that got my attention form the 1960's was A WALK IN THE BLACK FOREST by Horst Jankowski. From the 50's THE WAYWARD WIND by Gogi Grant. Maybe the last good country song I remember was DIGGING UP BONES by a few artists. Also A FOOLER A FAKER BY Hank Thompson. Of course there is the the STEEL GUITAR RAG by Leon McAuliffe and of course SAN ANTONIO ROSE, words added later by Bob Wills. And can't forget the National Drinking Anthem THERE STANDS THE GLASS by Webb Pierce.

They have an familiar alt rock type sound. I don't hear the same influences as you.
To me they sound like Tom Petty mixed with maybe Sonic Youth. I would expect to hear this at a party in the midwest.

Most of the stuff at the grocery store is pretty vanilla right? I couldn't make out word one on this song but it wigged me out enough in the bread isle to put Sound Hound on my phone to find out what it was. I heard it last week. Is 2016 new?
