Here's another I have been working on ... would love feedback https://www.reverbnation.com/kevinism/song/29117297-strange-is-your-lifeStrange Is Your Life You like to pretend that your spirit is free You poor thing, you're misunderstood And no one can see all the things you can see You don't think they would if they could You don't believe there's any point in convincing them You don't believe in anything but yourself Strange is your life You don't get the credit your surely deserve For reasons you don't understand It's hard to think straight when you're touching a nerve You just do the best that you can You don't believe there's any point in forgiving them You don't believe anyone but yourself Strange is your life How can you get them to believe in all things you do and say? How can you get them to believe that some of it is true? They don't even have the sense to understand it's just a game They don't recognise the truth For once in your life you should let down your guard Who knows what it just might reveal? Your life may be strange but it's just not that hard To show them all just how you feel I don't believe there's any point in confusing them I don't believe in anything but the truth Strange is your life Strange is your life Strange is your life Thanks, Kevin

Cool Bowie-esque song.
What I liked most is the vibe, the vocals, and the bass line.
The arrangement and mix are good, too. After listening to this again, you might want to consider more backing vocals, and a bit of a mid-scoop on the bass.
Sounds good!
Peace, TC

Nicely done, Kevin.
Very Bowie-like. Cool bass line. Nice guitars and vocals.
A good listen.

Kevinism,
This tune takes me back to my 80's college days, very drunk dancing on the crowded floor of "Fat Daddy's," the local dance bar. Which is to say, I think this is pretty cool. Liked it a ton.
Hang true,
Deej

Hey Kevin:
Your vocal reminds me every now and then of "Sting" in his early days. True enough, I hear some "Bowie" in the phrasing but your own style is in the mix. Interesting lyric and the backing is spot on for the genre. Thanks for sharing. ----Dave

Well done write, arrangement and performances.
Man, does that bass ever carry the groove.
Kudos!

Good song Kevin in the Bowie groove. Loved the intro! Travis

Many thanks for all the feedback. As a huge Bowie fan, I never get tired of hearing that I sound a little like him! This song was kind of inspired by one of his "Thin White Duke" era songs called "Stay".
Cheers,
Kevin

Hey Kevinism, I was reading your bio on LinkedIn, and I believe the true story is that Bono told someone who knows someone I know who told someone else that the reason he stopped writing songs is because he heard you playing in a Dublin bar and realized he could no longer compete. Man, that is so sad. But now I least I understand what happened. Seriously though, this is a really cool song, and as others have stated, very David Bowie. Very. I think all songs can stand on their own the way the producer (you) decided, but since you solicited production advice I have an idea on the guitar. The music is pretty solid in a Let's Dance kind of a way. The electric guitar part is kinda busy over that rhythm and you might simply want it to emphasize the dance and hip movements of the song, so to speak. This is hard to describe in words, but if you were to watch someone dancing to the bed of this song you would see their hips move very rhythmically but sultry, since this is essentially a dance tune. The guitar might experiment with being more "punctuated" against this pelvic rhythm like: bump...ba dump....bump...ba...dump...ba da ba.......bump...ba...dump...ba da ba...bump...ba dump....know what I mean?? Like an initial quarter beat downstroke and then two quick beats, down and up... 1...and a....1... and a 1 and a....(i.e. "funk.") with slightly different variations on the tag of the riff. Hope that makes sense. It might make it even more danceable than it already is. That is all I can think of from a production standpoint, unless you want to also add a version short "scorching lead" (not too long) over top of that repetitive primal beat I just described. Or, it can go just the way it is. Great song man.

Wow Kevin, i don't know what I was expecting but this is pretty awesome. I was chair dancing and the chair almost got the better of me! Great vocal and production. Lyrically I like the overall feel. The only thing I would suggest, if you ever plan to re-visit, is cut out all the extra words, especially "just". That last verse could be a lot tighter without all that fat. I realize you may be concerned with syllable counts, in which case, disregard, but thought it was worth mentioning. Sometimes less is more. For once in your life let down your guard Who knows what it might reveal? Your life may be strange but it's not that hard To show them all how you feel I don't believe there's any point in confusing them I don't believe in anything but the truth Strange is your life Ricki
