Highways. Heartaches. And some Harmonies.

Janice Merritt (of Janice & Bub) joins me on the harmonies for this.
(Bud recorded and added his processing to Janice's vocals - how we always do it...).

THIS FAR

the bed of this silverado holds everything i own
left the wintry coast of maine headed for as far away as i can go
trying to forget your face, your touch, your kiss
all that i can think about is every inch of you i'm gonna miss
trying to outrun your memory
so why are you all that i can see

28 hours straight i drive ... drive and drive and drive
never looking back, 1800 miles south on 95
from bar harbour maine to this sun bleached key west bar
    i never dreamed a heartache
   could stretch this far

all these tourist watching a lover's sunset
paying no attention to the broken man and his regrets
i've lost track of the tears i've shed
god knows how many beers i've had trying to get you out of my head
as far away as i could run
when will this be done

28 hours straight i drove ... to find a place to hide
never looking back, 1800 miles south on 95
from bar harbour maine to this sun bleached key west bar
    i never dreamed a heartache
    could stretch this far

a broken heart in paradise
is still a broken heart

from bar harbour maine to this sun bleached key west bar
    i never dreamed a heartache
    could stretch this far

Hope you enjoy the trip.
Comments welcome.

Impressive write and performance. Sounds radio ready to me... and if it isn't a 10, it's a 9.999 and J&B added just the right touch on the harmonies and audio. Wow! The trip down the coast from Maine was wonderful. I had to jump off at the exit to St. Simon's Island to go collect some memories... 'cause I've seen Key West, LOL!

So glad to have you guys here again... bringing some real class to this tired old juke joint. Play it again, would ya, Floyd? ----Dave

Hi Floyd.
That's how to sing a good country song.
That's how to do it all.
Vic

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

Floyd, once again you've gotten to the heart of the matter, as you so often do.

Classic vibe here Floyd… a touching write.
I’m digging that rhythm guitar chucking on the right and the cool crying electric throughout.

Over all you hit the sweet spot production wise.
You and Janice got something really special vocally.

(heading south on i-95)
Yeah, I got that… on some ole line… of some ole song… somewhere in my ole songbook. smile

Another great job Bud

Maybe it's just peculiar to my sensibilities. As I am writing this, I have only read the lyrics and not heard the song...and I think that quotation is f'king awesome.

Excellent country rock song with solid performances.

I wish I could belt out my tunes like you belted out this one. You really put some umph in the vocals, and they sound good. The instrumentals are all very solid as well.

You might want to consider naming this tune "Drive." The chorus about driving is the strong suit of this tune, and, although the line about heartbreak is a great line, I think "Drive" captures the song's essence better. I would even repeat the chorus with the repeated "drive and drive and drive" as this is awesome and catchy (and easy to sing along to!).

BTW, nice job on the harmonies, Janice!

Peace,
TC

Thanks, TC. This one (obviously) didn't have obvious title. "Drive" has been done so many times before - and since I changed it the 2nd time around, it didn't seem quite right either... just one of those "weak title songs"... it happens sometimes... thanks for having a listen...

Just Plain Quotes
"Our enemies may not be who we think they are. They are not Major Label monopolies. The world will always have 'majors.' They are not big corporations who own everything. The world will always have 'big' ones. Our enemies are not the loud mouthed critics telling us we will fail. The world will always have those too. Our most dangerous enemy is our own quiet acceptance of the fate we perceive these entities have mapped out for us. The only danger is our own complacency, or inactivity, and our willingness to believe so called experts who tell us we 'can't' and that our grim fate is inevitable." -Brian Austin Whitney
