Jersey Country Page:
https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=2300745

Not for helpful reviews, (as we are retired from the industry rat race of trying this and that all the time). This is a page of about 8 songs of what Buddy and I did for our blend of areas where we grew up, (Buddy from the south, and me from Jersey). So, as one of our albums was named, North & South, this page is of our Jersey Country type songs for maybe selecting one to get an idea of what we did. I wrote some on my own, and others, we cowrote.

Buddy sings the lead for Run My Way, and The Minute. I will at some point add "Jersey Drivers:, if I can find it on another computer here. (I have three computers filed with our songs since 1978). One PC and two Macs.
Hopefuly enjoy whatever song you select. Thank you!

John

Hi John:

I listened to several songs on this uniquely "Jersey" album. Thanks for sharing "your memory lane" with us. I could imagine Ray Charles turning at least one of them into a smash hit.

Enjoyed. ----Dave

Well, thank you Dave for your time for more than one song, and, for reading my rant.

Ray Charles?! Wow! Thank you!

Hi John,

I listened to If I Turn and Walk Away". I wish I could reference the lyrics, but I'll comment from memory after two listens. I think this is a wistful song that comes across as a sweet remembrance. "Where does the love go if I turn and walk away"...is something to ponder because that's a deep line! (love lines like that!) Nice piano and performance. I liked the contemplative solo too.

Kristi

Kristi, thank you for your time and thoughtful review.

That was one of the lyric collabs with Buddy Holcombe. He came up with most of them. I will let him know.

Thank you for comments on my playing. I always tried! smile

Johnny,

Listened to "Get Busy with It"-- awesome sound. Nice vocal, hook and harmonies. I know nothing when it comes to production, so dismiss my meandering thought as you will—strikes me this might resonate a more a bit slower (just a tad) on the pace. But this is killer--the refrain is a definite ear worm. I'm eager to give the rest of the cuts a listen.

Very cool!

Deej

Thanks a lot, Deej! Anytime we all can get a "killer", is knowing we affected that listener as it being worth their time listening. Thank you for letting me know you thought it to be Killer!

Thank you too, for wanting to hear more of Jersey Country. Much appreciated.

I just checked out your cover of "If I fell". Unique vocal for it. What accent do you have?

Thank you Travis.

Buddy and I usually go to the listening method as if on the radio. (No lead sheets), with just hearing the song, and evaluating reviews on it's on. As in many songs by those like Elton John, where the sound of the sometimes unknown words are as important as the words when known. It might be rude to do that, so if taken that way, I;m sorry for that feeling.

Since we, (and I when solo writing), do write with sonics in mind even for lyrics, I like to see how the listening effect of the song hits folks, rather than looking at lyrics as if a publisher is wanting to know those specifics, say for a Country song.

I hope you and others understand this oddball way of wanting our songs to be "heard" only, like radio played songs. Many hit songs are still a lyrical puzzle for many! WE think because of that, maybe too much emphasis is put on knowing every word. Maybe it takes away the sound of lyrical magic, if there is such a thing, going only by the sound of the lyrics, while understanding "most". ???? We so however have some songs up with the lyrics posted. Not sure why I did that for them. (It might have been from so many asking the same thing for a certain song).

Thank you again. I will type out those lyrics out for you now.

1st Verse:
When a day seem to last forever
Tomorrow will have to share the pain
When I feel I said all there is to say
Where does the love go when I turn and walk away

Second Verse:
We all know what's it's like to wonder
What the changes in life are gonna be
Still there's a question to answer, cant be found today
Where does the love go if I turn and walk away

Bridge:
We could dream of a moment together
When the good times we had were meant to be
When forever is over, and the heart loses the flame
Where does the love go if I turn an' walk away

Instrumental

I really enjoyed these. The production is very appropriate for the genres and era, and the vocals are super.

Nice clean instrumentation. I really enjoyed this a lot!

Thank you sir!

As I am in the struggle of retirement, (SS will allow me to make up to 17,000 this year and with no limit thereafter), it is tough for me to accept the start of the Golden??? years. Now, if only one other sir who would be in the business of getting songs to artists, I would realize another kind of reward, other than the high praise you gave. Thank you very much for the many pats on my back. I simply love creating hooks and fitting everything in like a woven afgan blankets and sweaters/coats as my mom used to make.

Gratefully,
John

Thank you Ricki!

It reminds you of me! hahaha When our band played it, (at every gig), it got the places going even more. One venue owner danced in such a VERY excited and cool way, we on stage were looking at him!

Thank you for your kind compliment and time.

I got a million of em! (Well, about 200). Most in view of me on master cassettes, not mixed or recorded even decent yet. (Giving my ears a break).

Whenever you mention Nj in your stuff, or even being from NJ, you"re up against it. You sound more like Franki Valli than Bruce, maybe I need to make part two with that vibe. But wow we got four seasons, Bruce, Southside , Bon Jovi, frank Sinatra if u wanna go there, some of the biggest hams in the business lol

Was expecting horns and b3, but I think I get where your coming from.

I like get busy with it, sounds like The Seasons...Beatles

The ear detects a smidge out of tune guitar, maybe cause it's dry and raw.

I enjoyed, I liked the Seasons stuff more than the country, but that's just me

Good luck!

The late country singer Eddie Rabbit came from there also. In fact "Jersey Boy" was one of his hit songs and also albums.

I like get busy with it, sounds like The Seasons...Beatles

The ear detects a smidge out of tune guitar, maybe cause it's dry and raw.

I enjoyed, I liked the Seasons stuff more than the country, but that's just me

Good luck!

I am SOUTH Jersey! Alone in that vibe. 7 miles from Philly in a little suburb town called Barrington. On the toughest block when growing up, which I had to be assertive with playing the accordion at age 7 to start with! Ha! I soon became respected when I was the pitcher to be reckoned with, knocking back the biggest, meanest hitters, with me just being a little skinny kid at first, and again, playing,,,,,,The accordion!

The few country songs are but a fraction of what I have done. I mostly am Beatles influenced, but, with also scoring two films, one a Russian Classical style score for the 1050's Russian gulag style of heavy dramatics, mixed with some lighthearted prison men joking around, to keep their sanity. I have about 6 different sites for the varied music I produced, (some with my cowritting partner, Buddy Holcombe, who was from the real south. He is the one that asked me to do some country, for which I said, well, it might be more like a Jersey Country sound. He laughed and then we wrote a few such type songs you heard. I did them quickly, wanting to get back to all else that was floating around in my head. (about 200 other styled songs and scores to just record, (as iF there was a film to score). Many instrumentals of this and that. So yes, please do consider this SOUTH Jersey boy that was never trying or having to compete with the northern dudes! (I recorded with the Boss's producer though for his musical demo). MikeAppel.com, if wanting to hear what I did for his tunes. Mike Caro played guitar on them, and bass for a few.

Thank you so much for your time and the listens of this SOUTH Jersey musician! ha! I would stake my playing chops up with any Northerner! hahahaha

John

That's because he didn't have me in his band yet!

hahaha! True!!!!! (Iggy played the horns and organ for our band's gigs later on)! I had recorded with them on other styled songs since '92, having such a keyboard. But, Iggy brought the brass, strings and oragn to the Too Little Time band! Thanks again, Iggy!!!!!! Miss you and the guys up here, at our MANY rehearsals.

Yep, as well as a fellow SOUTH Jersey musician/actor, in Bruce WILLIS! He was from Paulsboro, about 10 miles from me.

Johnny, what do you mean..up north we have My Chemical Romance, and The Jonas Brothers...don't get much better than that... Tee hee

Yeah the Jersey shore is where the big boys play. Stone Pony has held so many legendary jersey acts it ain't funny.

Southside Johnny may be the most underrated bar artist in the world, that's when playing live meant something

I have tons of stuff about northern Nj, including my Catholic schooling, guidos, growing up in a really nice neighborhood to be honest.

But fighting was an every day occurrence, we used to play baseball or any sport all day long at the parks near us, and a day didn't go by when some of the towns bullies were messing with us. Eventually you throw a punch back and think, gee why didn't I do that sooner.

But jersey gets a lot of dissin, but we have our pride too

Yep to all you said! (funny: "why didn't I do that earlier"?! hahaha. Most bullies are only tough when in a crowd of like kids. I was jumped by three, from a car, when I was 15. They apparently didn't know of my athletic strengths and that my father was a Big Red One Army boxing champion, with winning the Golden Gloves. He taught me how to defend myself, (daily in the hallway as we passed each other to or from the only bathroom). As the bigger kids started to run at me, I RAN AT the biggest one and blocked his punch, then decked him. The others quickly got back in the car, and waited for the guy on the ground to get back too. I just stood there, near the fallen big kid, to make sure he was going to be alright. He opened his eyes and looked at me, then quickly got up and ran to the car. hahaha. Was the last time I saw that car around our playground/ballfield again.

The Jonas Brothers can do plenty, sure But, can any one of them score a Russian Classical piece that will have Sony Pictures and Ascap be forced to place them in the top 12 by making a top 13, for being late with the submission?! hahahaha True. I never took piano or classical, or knew what Russian music was. I faked it good enough, apparently. I am told by those around me, who know me best, who say there isn't a damn thing I can't do in music. I say,,,,oh yes there is. : Real horns and strings. YIKES! I tried too. Talk about hard to pick up! I only play them all on the keyboard, like many have to.

Fun talking with ya!
John

It's all about wanting to fight. These kids always wanted to. They didn't like us playing sports, they called us jocks among other things. I read a story in local paper about one of them being arrested for home invasion, not surprising

My brother knocked the piss out of him one day, he said, I'm tired of running from these kids, and shocked everybody when he knocked him around.

But there's always more to replace them. I had maybe 10 officiall fights I figure I'm 5 and 5' , but got better as I went along

Hey, Johnny,

LOL, just circled back to your response to my comment. First off, thanks for having the courage to listen to my cover of “If I Fell”. Unique is probably the right word for it. I’m not sure how to answer your question regarding my accent. I grew up in Long Island, NY, went to college in upstate NY, spent about 8 years in Raleigh, NC, before moving to San Fransisco, where I’ve been for some years. So I’m sure there are hints of NY, Southern U.S., and West Coast—what can I say, I'm a mutt!

But screw all that, I just sing weird—and I tend to soften and elongate my vowels at times in maybe a Brit way? I dunno. But I hope that somewhat answers your question (and that I didn’t damage your ear drums too bad!).

Best regards,

Deej

LOL! For sure, as I mentioned, you're a unique Mutt at that! With even adding some Brit! Cool!

I played it REAL low. So, no harm. Thanks for thinking of me in that way!
