A few months ago I bought a new Hammond SK2. With it I purchased 4 high-end instrument cables. Last night I plugged into the left and right inputs and nothing! No signal to my amp, nothing to the mixer. I freaked out. My Hammond is dead and I don’t have a back up. Our soundman said it has to be the cords. How? Two cords at once? So we opened up the other two back up cords and nothing! OMG what am I going to do? As a last ditch effort and only 10 minutes before we have to start, our guitar player handed me a cord and said try this. “Jeff I’ve already tried four cords”. Try it! So I did and holy crap my Hammond came alive.
How in the h*ll can four cords go at once?

Four cords and the truth? I know: it's {{{weird}}} right? Weird things happening? It's everywhere. Here's another mind blower: I opened a new box of Shake and Bake to do some chicken; no bags! (There's usually two bags in each box) I happened to have a new box of pork Shake and Bake and opened it to use one of the bags, (Cue the "Zone" music) there were four bags in the box! Now, anyone that's familiar with a factory knows they fill different products at different times/days or on different lines. Coincidence? Hmmmmm..... -Mike

High end cords? Well they can sell you anything and make it sound like it is the best thing since sliced cheese. If you have a multi meter you can check the cords for continuity. It may be a simple problem. (Of course they may have used Oxygen filled copper wire) Ha, Ha.

I wonder if it is something else... one cord is different than two. Is it a stereo setting on the keyboard? Or something similar?

No it makes no sense. It was set up and working at rehearsal. Then taken, put into a road case and onto our trailer. Got to the gig, set it up and nothing. It’s stereo so you would think if a cord was bad the other would still be OK. We plugged a guitar into my amp and it worked so that ruled out the amp. Has to be the cords. Pulled them out, put brand new ones in, (the same brand). Nothing. I was ready to tear it all down when the guitar player handed me a cord and said try mine. It worked fine. The next day I tried all four “bad” cords and they worked fine. Very weird. Next gig is Saturday in Gettysburg. Keepin my fingers crossed.

Hi Iggy. Last year I plugged my bass into an amp I hadn't used for over a year and nothing. It had been stored in a damp garage over winter. I left it switched on and tried it an hour later. It crackled but worked. Half an hour later it was fine. Now I keep it in the house. Could it be condensation?

Iggy,
Did you play the gig with one single cord, or two?

Two. Once we found one that worked, we got another one and it worked too. Vic you've got me thinking about that whole moisture thing. I did leave my keyboard in my car overnight.....hmnn?
Thanks everyone. Strange days indeed. Most peculiar Momma.

Soooooooooo after much surfing on the World Wide Web I have learned that “on occasion” the Hammond SK2 will not fully boot up when turned on. This leaves all the input / output plugs in an off position. Turn it off and back on and you’re in business! I’m posting this for others who surf the web looking for answers as to why their three thousand dollar Hammond SK2 has stopped working.

You're all Off Your Rockers! Ha!
Glad it finally worked. "I know" the band would NOT be nearly the same without your parts.

Hey Iggy, Ya mean ya had to play 4 chords at once ? All at the same time ? Geez, wouldn't have sounded too good. Perhaps it's a jazz organ ? cheers, niteshift

Hey Nite, I can’t play four chords at once when I only know three.
