Who'd a thought it. Got a nice check from ASCAP last month for radio airplay in France. Weird, but I ain't complaining.

Cool Ben, congratulations. Did this get on French radio through a publisher? Maybe it's playing on radio in other countries. Wish you more success! Best, John

John, not sure how it got there. I know that I sold a license through a publisher some time ago.

What was the song title Ben ? and is it an English Version or French re write
A guy who Co Wrote - Welcome To My World - was telling me he was getting
Radio Royalties for a French version of their song titled - Entre Dans Ma Vie -
Having a second home in France I tried to get him a copy but never did find the song
Both writers have gone on by now Johnny Hatchcock I believe was the co writer I Knew
many years ago ----- We never had computers then but I see Clara Sanchez recorded
The French Version, but still hard to find a copy

One of the most important principles of songwriting is to remember that a good song is a partnership of many different components, all working together to produce a satisfying musical experience.
In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.

Awesome, Ben! If you can trace your steps, maybe you can do it again? Can you provide a link to the song?

It's all a mystery to me. I have music on Itunes, Spotify etc., but the royalties wouldn't fall under a PRO. I've sold a few licenses to music libraries who I guess use their own publishers. Most of those are instrumentals so It may be background music for a commercial. We'll see what happens next quarter.

Awesome! It's too bad it's not easy to find who used it and how. I have an idea for a search engine for that purpose, but no idea how to do it. Anyone have thoughts?

There are a couple of companies already doing this, TuneSat and BDS. I believe they only cover the U.S. I'm thinking there are other companies that do the same in other countries. TuneSat sits at about 97% accurate in their method if I'm not mistaken.

More details should be on your ASCAP statement Ben. If not give ASCAP a call to help you track it. If you got paid by ASCAP they should have the cue sheet for it. Best, John

Hey John, it shows no cue sheet on the web site. I did call last week and they told me to make an inquiry from the web site. I did that and got an e-mail the next day stating only that it was from radio airplay in France. No details. If it was background music, wouldn't there be a cue sheet? And wouldn't I have been paid a license fee on top of the royalties?

Do you have any idea what song it is? The license fee would have to come from your publisher/ client. ASCAP's not responsible for that. John

I just checked my last International royalty statement. It was in November. Several countries used tracks on radio that were used on Gotham & Quantico here. They supplied the track name and the publisher. It's just another money avenue for publishers. John

Yes I know that ASCAP only pay's royalties but wouldn't a cue sheet give an idea of who the publisher is? I'll have to dig deeper.

Yes I know that ASCAP only pay's royalties but wouldn't a cue sheet give an idea of who the publisher is? I'll have to dig deeper. Wouldn't be a cue sheet if it was just International radio play. But on the statement it should have the title of the song used and maybe a prefix/ suffix added that will give you a hint of the publisher. John

Thanks John. Unless I'm not navigating the ASCAP site right, I see no indication of a song title or publisher. I'll have to spend some more time with it. I downloaded the statements but they only give me the amount payed out. Nothing more.
